What size wire do I need for my vape?

Jul 07, 2021 · Stainless steel wire comes in various grades (410, 413, 316, 316L, 430, 304, and so on), which adds to the confusion a bit and makes it seem as if various vapers are either singing praises or talking down the same type of wire.

Which vape wires work best for temperature control?

The TCR value of the wire is determined by the increase in resistance on the wire as the temperature gradually increases. Temperature control mods use the knowledge of the material being used, the resistance of the coil and the cold resistance of the coil to determine if the coil is too cold or too .

What are the different types of vape wires?

Aug 18, 2015 · Next, you must vape with the right wire type. TC vaping generally uses one of these four types of vape wires: Stainless steel: this wire is very popular and readily available. What temperature should you set your vape to?

Jan 06, 2018 · Gauges and properties. All these vape wires come in 10m spools and are generally grouped by gauge or diameter. When building coils we usually use gauges 22, 24, 26, 28, 30, and 32. The higher the gauge, the higher the resistance. At the same time the higher the gauge the lower the diameter.

What gauge wire is best for vaping?

Kanthal has been the choice of most vapers for a longer time, due to its ease of use and higher resistance. Mouth to lung vapers appreciate their higher builds, and a 26-28 gauge Kanthal wire is always dependable—and hard to swap for anything else.Aug 15, 2021

What is Clapton wire?

Clapton Coils are a small gauge wire wrapped around another larger gauge wire in a perpendicular way. One wire is coiled tightly over the other. You get your thicker coil result by wrapping a 24 or 26 gauge vape wire in a 30 or 32 gauge. Surface area shoots up (and so does flavour production).Oct 18, 2017

What is alien wire?

An Alien Clapton, usually referred to as an Alien, is a de-cored Clapton wrapped around a multi-strand core. It is similar to a fused Clapton, except the outer wrap has a very distinct texture. Aliens have a slower ramp-up time than fused Claptons due to their larger surface area.Sep 20, 2021

What wattage is best for flavor?

The sweet spot for getting a balance of vapour and flavour is around 0.3ohms. Depending on your coil choice you'll want to up the wattage from anywhere between 50 and 100 watts. Clapton and Alien coils usually take a bit more power to ramp up so you'll want to boost the wattage if you're using either of these options.

Does vaping rot your teeth?

Vaping and Gum Disease

What is the best wire for vaping?

Nichrome Wire. Nichrome wire is another great wire that can be used for vaping, and is a nickel and chromium alloy. While less commonly found in stores than kanthal, nichrome is similarly resistant to oxidation and can function at high temperatures without being damaged.

What is the most common wire used for vaping?

Kanthal is the most common wire used for vaping, and is a ferritic iron, chromium-aluminium alloy. Because of its inexpensive price, wide availability, and resistance to oxidation kanthal is a great material for building coils.

How does temperature control work?

To keep things simple, temperature control mode works by using the TCR or temperature coefficient of resistance of a given wires material. Materials like nickel behave predictably with regards to their resistances at certain temperatures.

What is the best stainless steel for vaping?

While stainless steel comes in a variety of grades, 316 is medical and food grade and is perfect for vaping. Stainless steel will heat up very quickly, and has a faster ramp up time than kanthal or nichrome wire. Stainless steel is also very easy to work with and will hold its shape nicely.

Is stainless steel a good material to work with?

Stainless steel will heat up very quickly, and has a faster ramp up time than kanthal or nichrome wire. Stainless steel is also very easy to work with and will hold its shape nicely. Like nichrome, stainless steel contains nickel, so those with a nickel allergy should avoid using it.

What is Ni200 wire?

Nickel wire is also referred to as Ni200, and is made of pure nickel. Nickel heats up the fastest out of all vape wires and was the first wire used with temperature control mode. Because of its soft and springy nature, nickel wire is harder to work with than kanthal or nichrome. While nickel wire can offer better flavor ...

What gauge is used for vaping?

When talking about vape wire size, vapers are referring to gauge, the actual wire diameter. The most popular gauges that vapers use are 32, 30, 28, 26, 24, and 22 – a majority of vape coils, even the most eccentric ones and used in the best vapes, can be built with these. The important thing to remember here is that the bigger ...

What are the two modes of vaping?

You know by now that there are two different modes of vaping – the wattage mode and the temperature control mode . Of course, it would be great if we could just use any old vape wire type for both of these modes.

Is Kanthal wire cheap?

It’s easy to work with, kanthal wire has good resistance to oxidation, it’s not springy so it holds shape. Also, kanthal wire is cheap and easy to find.

Is Kanthal wire good for coils?

Kanthal wire is especially good for single coil builds, which are not extravagant but get the job done when you’re not in the mood for something fancy and time-consuming. Add to that that it holds shape well when rewicking (which means that you can use a Kanthal coil a good long time) and have a fan favorite.

What is NiChrome wire?

Another fan-favorite for wattage vaping, NiChrome, is an alloy composed of nickel and chromium. If you’re looking for fast ramp-up time, this is the wire you should look into. Other than that, it behaves similar to Kanthal wire – it’s easy to work with (slightly less spring than Kanthal wire) and holds shape well.

SS can be used in wattage or temperature control mode. 2 Nickel 200: commonly known as ni200, it was the first temperature control coil but it’s less common now due to some vapers having sensitivities to nickel. 3 Titanium Grade 1: otherwise known as Ti. It works well in TC but the user has to make sure it does not get overheated. 4 Nickel ferrous: also known as NiFe, comes in various grades such as 48, 30, 52, 70 and can be used in either mode, but is not widely available.

What element is used in vaping?

Kanthal or iron-chromium-aluminium (FeCrAl) is the most commonly used in vaping. With a melting point of 1,500 degrees Celsius this makes the perfect heating element inside our atomizers. It’s fairly durable, easy to work with and the resistance is predictable using online calculators or phone apps. It’s also inexpensive and widely available. We recommend it to all beginners.

What is a Ni200 coil?

Nickel or Ni200 is one of the first types of wire to be used with temperature control. Most of the regulated mods out there have a TC mode for Nickel . However, you will mostly find it inside stock coils. This is because the material can be tricky to work with and can be dangerous when used the wrong way. Nickel coils usually have a very low resistance and are mainly intended for sub ohm vaping and direct lung draws.

I'm still quite new to vaping and recently bought an eleaf pico 75w which came with a mello 3 mini tank (2ml). The 2 coils it came with were both sub ohm .3 and .5 (i believe)

I use 26 ga for mtl but I have no idea if thats right for you. You might start with 28 ga.

papergoblin Super Member Verified Member ECF Veteran

It's really going to be more about airflow than coil. The more restrictive the tank will go, generally the better for MTL and flavor but there are no hard and fast rules.

I vape 26 nichrome 2.5mm 6 wrap around 16w/3v 0.6ohm or 28 nichrome 8 wraps. Usually which ever fills the air intake the best without having massive spacing. All my mods fire below 3.7v... mods without step down are from like 3 years ago. The Pico will work but make sure you buy the 22mm version Siren 2, 24mm won't fit.

Before you finalize your order I'd suggest adding a couple of restricted airflow drip tips. You can usually get them for about a dollar if you dig through the product listings a bit. Those will help with the airflow.
