Dry hits dosent necessarily means the cotton is done, could be the rta dosen't wick fast enough and imho i doubt any juice would make you change cotton after 15 mls.

This is a duplicate post I think. The answer remains the same. It varies a lot, depending on atty, juice, and personal preference. An occasional MTL vaper vaping a non crusty juice? Sure. A week is totally reasonable. Longer even. Me I change my wick every one or two days depending on what I’m vaping. I like a cleaner taste though.

I like to switch out a wick each time the tank empties. But, most of the time i simply can't be bothered. So, i found that after about two and a half tanks (11 mil - ish) i start getting bad tasting vapour. I put that down to the wick getting gunged up. True, clearer liquids do allow the wick to last longer though.

When it no longer looks clean after a dry burn, or if it still tastes off after a burn and rewicking. Assuming a wick change once a week, maybe 3 or 4 weeks. If you use a dark juice with a lot of flavoring, it will likely be sooner. More gunk to deal with.

At what point would I be able to tell that a new coil is required? Surely I can't keep replacing cotton in the same coil for ever can I?

avpx1 Senior Member ECF Veteran

I change my cotton about every 5 days. I burn off my coil by heating it until it glows (not bright red). Then I rinse them off in some running water. I do it a few times until they are clean. Then I simply re-wick. My coils are made from "Kanthal A1" and "Nichrome 80" wires. If you are using TI wire then don't dry burn them.
