If your vape coil is being run at a higher wattage and producing more vapour, it needs to use more e-liquid to create that vapour. This is why vapers using sub-ohm vape coils at 40 or 50W or even higher can get through a 10ml bottle of e liquid or more in a day. If you’d rather conserve your e liquid, keep to a lower wattage.

How much power does a vape coil produce?

However, if you’re using voltage, the actual power supplied will vary depending on the resistance of your vape coil. For example, 5v on a 1.8Ohm coil will be about 13.5W of power, whereas 5v on a 0.5Ohm coil will be about 48w.

What happens when you increase the wattage on a vape?

This happens because the higher the vape wattage, the more power being provided to the vape coil, and the more power, the warmer the coil gets. When a vape coil is run at a higher wattage, it’s able to create more vapour, thus giving you more nicotine per puff.

What are VV/VW vape mods?

In simple terms, VV/VW are a battery powered vaping device that has an internal circuitry that regulates its output power through adjusting voltage, or adjusting the wattage. The internal circuitry feature is what makes these mods safe to use, and a great starter mod for beginners.

What is the variable voltage setting on my vape?

Let's get more specific now. Vaping on the variable voltage setting is essentially adjusting the volts to your desired setting, the voltage gets sent to the coils in the atomizer you’re using. It's important to start low and gradually increase the voltage until you find the perfect amount of volts.

What does turn up the voltage on a vape?

What Voltage Means on a Vape Pen. Simply put, the higher the voltage you set, the higher the heat. This will intensify or lessen certain variables of your vape. A lower voltage setting allows more subtle flavors to come through since some delicate terpenes may not be discernible with higher heat.

Is higher voltage better for vaping?

Best Vape Pen Voltage Setting In general, the ideal voltage setting for more THC carts is 2.5V - 3.3V. More specifically, a voltage right around 3.0 V should yield a balance of taste and potency from your draw. The reason for this is that at this medium level of temperature, you get the best flavor from your THC carts.

Why increase wattage on vape?

A higher wattage equals more power provided to the coil. As the power is increased, the coil produces warmer, larger clouds of vapour from your vape – ideal for creating tricks, such as smoke rings. On the other hand, for cooler vapour clouds, simply turn the wattage right down.

Hey everyone. I have a technical question about how APVs deal with high resistance atomizers and battery voltage drop. If I’m not mistaken, this is the equation a mod uses to calculate output voltage at the coil:

So, does it just limit the wattage at the best it can do given the coil resistance?

Baditude ECF Guru ECF Veteran

Don't ask me to try to explain it any better than that video; I'm not an electrical engineer and besides that's above my pay grade. If you can't figure it out from the video, then its all done by using tiny magical unicorns inside the regulator chip.

Input power is the same as the output power. A boost converter isn’t a free energy device

Baditude ECF Guru ECF Veteran

Agreed. The limits are minimal. As an example. I have a Cartel Revenant regulated mod I use to check my RDAs before I put them on a mech mod. It has proven to be the most accurate mod I have. Even more accurate than my 521 tab ohm meter.

Don29palms Moved On ECF Veteran

I think you're talking apples and oranges here. First you are talking about using your regulated mod to check coil resistance, another topic altogether. Second, regulator chipsets have closely defined limits concerning coil resistance extremes to protect the chip set.

You’ve heard about it. You’ve read about it. You wonder why people talk so much about high voltage vaping, low resistance atomizers, and other seemingly nonsensical terms. Until now it’s all been a confusing mishmash of new terminology and you don’t really know what all the fuss is about.

Your next chore will be how to explain how to get Ohm readings on batts and atty's using a Digital MM. I check all of my stuff when it comes in and when I find a 1.43 - 1.45 Cisco 306 I put a gold marking on that bad boy!!!!! Thanks again this will help many

HzG8rGrl Trippy Tip Hoarder Verified Member ECF Veteran

Ciscos-which they must be listed as Cisco's LR306's, are wonderful. I have also found that ikenvape has been doing some intense work on all of his atomizers and cartomizers. So far they have been "the bees knees" ,if you will, for me.

Well written explanation Biff. Several months ago when I first tried a 6 volt device with a HR 901 I posted somewhere about how superior it was to the 510 LR at 3.7 volts. I got a lot of flack from a certain long time ECF member who likes to start crap.

What is a VW mod?

A VV/VW mod has the ability to customize the output which can be helpful in a variety of ways, it allows the flexibility to quickly change and use a wide variety of atomizers with different resistance, coil types and wire sizes. The ability to adjust the output power also allows users to control the amount of heat generated by their coils which can change the flavor of or burn certain e-juices and help adjust if the user wants to take shorter or longer pulls to create the same amount of vapor. With these devices a few button clicks is all it takes to readjust and you are ready to go

What determines if the microprocessor has to boost the voltage to achieve the desired setting in a parallel circuit

Battery placement determines if the microprocessor has to boost the voltage to achieve the desired setting in a parallel circuit or reduce the power to achieve the desired setting in a series circuit.

What is the difference between a VV and a VW?

Size: Since these mods need space for their circuitry and wiring to perform comparably or out perform mechanical devices VV/VW mods are often larger than fixed voltage regulated mods or mechanical mods and the smaller VV/VW mods often will have a shorter battery life, lower output maximum output power, and smaller usable resistance range.

Why do vape coils have more nicotine?

When a vape coil is run at a higher wattage, it’s able to create more vapour, thus giving you more nicotine per puff. This also means that the throat hit from your nicotine and PG is increased as well.

How to know wattage of vape coil?

Once you know your coil’s wattage rating, start at the very bottom wattage. Then, gradually turn it up by a watt or two at a time, taking an inhale in-between. If your vape becomes too harsh or hot or tastes burnt, you know it’s a little too high, so turn the wattage back down.

Why do coils get hot?

As higher wattages cause coils to get warmer, it’s beneficial to have your airflow ring more open , as this extra air will help stop the coil from getting too hot and burning. If you like to have the airflow ring quite closed, to give you that tighter draw, then make sure to keep your wattage a little lower.

Why do you need an airflow ring on a vape?

As higher wattages cause coils to get warmer, it’s beneficial to have your airflow ring more open, as this extra air will help stop the coil from getting too hot and burning.

Can you vape with a coil that is burning?

If you like to take very long or deep inhales when you vape, then you may find that you’re not able to reach higher wattage ranges without your vape coil tasting burnt. This is fairly normal, as while a coil may be able to be fired at a high wattage, it may struggle with being fired for a long time.

Can you use 10W on a vape coil?

Wattage stays the same across all devices, tanks and coils, so 10W with one vape coil will fire at 10W on another vape coil. However, if you’re using voltage, the actual power supplied will vary depending on the resistance of your vape coil.

Can coils burn out faster?

Similarly, running your coils at the higher ends of their recommended wattage ranges can shorten their overall lifespan and you might find them burning out more quickly than when you run them at lower wattages.

WHAT ARE THE COMPONENTS OF A VAPE DEVICE?

Though specific components vary by type of device, the basic pieces remain the same. A vape device is made up of:

HOW DO THESE COMPONENTS WORK TOGETHER?

It’s the same principle as a fog machine or hookah. Basically, a vaporizer heats up liquid to the point that it turns into vapor. It goes like this:

BUT WHY DO SOME DEVICES PRODUCE LARGE CLOUDS OF VAPOR WHILE OTHERS ONLY PRODUCE A LITTLE?

The ingredients in your e-juice and your device determine the size of your clouds. Here is a quick summary of facts:

Why do vapes burn out faster?

You will need to increase the voltage to increase the wattage and get a better vape. Because lower resistance coils use more wattage, they tend to generate more heat. This means they often burn out quicker than a higher resistance coil would.

What is a vape device?

Vape devices use simple circuits that contain a battery, a switch and a heating coil. The circuit is effectively a controlled short, with the power output from the battery used to create heat.

What does wattage mean in vaping?

To put it another way, watts is essentially how much power your vape produces and voltage is how much power is put through the device. So, as you increase the wattage the voltage also increases and vice versa.

How to get the perfect vape experience?

After all, with most entry-level vape kits, all you need to do is: Check what wattage you can use with the coil in your device. Adjust your wattage and airflow until you get the vapour, flavour and throat hit you need. Some people want to know more to get the perfect vaping experience.

What is the resistance of a sub ohm coil?

The term sub-ohm, while still used, is not as relevant as it used to be. Coils below 1 ohm are common, and coils with a resistance of 0.8 ohms are often used for Mouth-to-Lung vaping. Even lower resistance coils, such as 0.15 coils, are often used for cloud vaping.

How does variable wattage work?

The variable wattage device will then automatically adjust the power going through the atomiser (the voltage) to produce the power output you need (the wattage).

What affects vapour and throat hit?

The resistance of your coil is not the only thing that affects vapour, flavour and throat hit. It also depends on the amount of power flowing through your coil. There are two common types of vape batteries which allow different amounts of power to flow through your coil. These are variable voltage and variable wattage.
