I use a syringe, also. They're pretty close measurements, except if you're using a long, large gauge needle, you have to account for the excess that's in the needle. I'd say there's .3ml in my needle alone. Drops are definitely a good measure, but you have to know how many drops/ml VG may have less drops/ml than PG.

markfm Aussie Pup Wrangler Verified Member ECF Veteran

I'll use pipettes a lot for smaller measurements, sometimes syringes. With a nominal 1 ml pipette you can get pretty close to 0.1 ml without much headached. Just rinse them well after, I'll usually do a half dozen rounds of water fill/empty and they seem to come out okay.

and use the E Juice Me Up calculator found up top in the sticky notes. If you set it for 10ml you will end up with 10ml if your messuring correctly.

Until I find the recipe that works I use drops, then move onto the syringe.

I use 1ml syringes for flavoring and various other sizes for various other liquid.

Rule62 Vaping Master Verified Member ECF Veteran

I use 3 and 5 ml syringes, with long 14 or 16 ga. needles to draw the liquids up into the syringe. But I remove the needle from the syringe for dispensing liquids into my mix. I'm particular about my measurements, and I don't know how much those long needles hold.

Eddie.Willers ECF Wiki SysOp Verified Member ECF Veteran

Pipettes for 1ml and less (like flavorings), graduated cylinders for PG and VG - sometimes a large bore pipette for nic base.

Many people may find this funny, but I vape at 5 watts, and I build my coils with a single 28mm wire, 1.5mm ID, and 5 wraps.

sky4it Super Member ECF Veteran

Yeah those watts are interesting. I dont get much vape on my coil if my watts are that low. I am not into the high watt stuff either. Generally, I vape around 12 watts on a 27 gauge coil, with 8 or 9 loops in the Kanthal wire. I get a lot more vape out of the extra loops.

UncleJunkle Vaping Master Verified Member ECF Veteran

Once in a while, I use cigalikes with a 1.7 ohm coil. After voltage drop, that's roughly 6.5-7.5 watts.

I vape airy mtl always with any tiny fused claptons I have.....last months I vape 5wraps 30x3/38 ni80 0.45ohm for fast and short chainvape airy mtl puffs at 26watts....or 2x30/38 0.7ohm at 20watts when I want a little less airy draw sometimes.

11.5 watts, 29g kanthal, five 2.5m wraps, Tight MTL on a Kayfun Prime. Flavoured D.I.Y - 24mg's - 68% VG / 32% PG (just re stocked with a litre of Nicotine liquid). I vape the same way i always have . Two draws in a five second period, because it's the only way to get a decent throat hit. Re-wick when the tank dries up.

9 - 14.3 watts, depending on the juice. 1 - 1.5 ohms. I'm still learning to make my own coils. MTL. I don't huff clouds.

Fairly new at rebuilding my own coils. Just got a Infinite Magma this week and have had some success with building single coils for it (I haven't tried building a sub-ohm coil just yet).

Slips Full Member

I think part of the equation that matters to me when deciding how or what to build is not addressed in your post. Airflow, where its coming from and how much. With your magma, do you like a tight draw or open? Wicking material can also play a part in the decision process, i.e.

I have found that longer coils will produce better flavour as there is more wick touching the coils and therefore been vaped! Usually i build duel coils at 0.6 ohms with 26 awg Nichrome with a 2mm diameter is aprox 8 wraps with japanese cotton great flavour, over loads of vape IMO.

Fantastic post from rusirius that goes in depth into coil and power issues.

So I watched MANY MANY videos on DIY e- juice. I noticed many people use the pipetts either 1 ml or 3 ml. So I ordered a doz of each. I also went to Walgreens (per the DIY videos) and got an oral syringe for larger measurements. Well when I started mixing, I found the pipetts a little hard to read as the writing is clear like the pipette itself.

I just use a 15 mL Luer Lok blunt tip refill bottle to fill my Clearo's and tanks. Several vape shops have them, GotVapes.com for one. Think it was around $3.99 + ship. I found with VG juice, Luer Lok tip works much better. The friction fits just blow off the syringe. JMHO

selenamstar Super Member ECF Veteran

I bought some blunt tipped needles and they are like 18 gage I found it hard to draw up with them so I measure in a med cup I snagged a couple from work at the nursing home. Though I still use the syringes and blunt tips for my thinner solutions.

Shantia Super Member ECF Veteran

Most likely the same products your getting from your local feed store/tractor supply, and cheaper. I mix atleast 3 juices a day (flavor changer here) and those syringes will not last for long.

Hi.I am slowly building my DIY arsenal and have gone through several threads.I am a bit surprised that people tend to use syringes instead of pipettes for their liquid transfers. If you really want precision and not use the weight method, pipettes (polystyrene or glass) are easier to use and more accurate in a sense because you don't have to compensate for the amount of liquid held inside the needle (unless you remove the needle every time before pouring the liquid which is not very comfortable if you have to do it several times).Just my 5 cents..

Larry J Super Member Verified Member ECF Veteran

I think most DIYers would say that the amount of liquid in the needle is so small that it becomes insignificant in a bottle of juice - unless, perhaps, you're only making a tiny bit of finished juice. In that case you'd probably be measuring by drops, anyway.

CajunCloud Senior Member Verified Member

At first I tried syringes for flavorings but in small batch amounts it is very hard to get an exact weight because they are designed to be pushed in all at one time. So for me they are hard to control and very easy to squirt way more then you need by weight. Once its in the mix you have to adjust everything else or hope for the best.

I’ve ordered a set of 0.3 ohm alien Clapton coils for my Bonza rda I want to run them duel but what wattage range would be best ?

Topwater Elvis Vaping Master ECF Veteran

The answer is always the same, start low & work your way up until you find what you like.

mcclintock Ultra Member ECF Veteran

None of this is the way it works, or should work at least. The first action is determining power, then choosing a drip tip, then an appropriate atty and finally coil (s). Of course, determining all of this does require actually trying things. But realize the center revolves around is what you want and your technique.

stols001 Moved On ECF Veteran

That is a LOT of metal, and since you are using dual coils, you are actually going to have a resistance of 0.15. Do you really want to build that low? You'd be needing high wattage to heat it up, and to get a satisfying vape.

I wouldn't think it would be great, no. But, I am a MTL vaper and my wattages hover in the teens. Frankly, I would just DIE trying to vape at that wattage, but keep in mind I almost developed COPD before I switched to vaping. I wouldn't call my lung capacity stellar.

How many puffs is considered "heavy" vaping. Medium vaping and light vaping. Just curious.

scuzzy19 Super Member ECF Veteran

ive seen some people take a 8-9 second puff that seems like a heavy drag to me i'd say im a medium vaping kinda guy I dont like taking too big of a drag nor a small one too little and not enough vapor and not enough hit

Adrenalynn Vaping Master ECF Veteran

I guess we'd first need to define "puff", since literally everyone "puffs" differently. Probably a function of volume/time.

cruisedoc Senior Member ECF Veteran

Well, it's highly individual, but I'll offer this. 2 ml. per day seems to be average which equals about 2 packs of cigs. I find it takes 10-12 puffs or so to equal a cig. So, 40 cigs in 2 packs would roughly equal 400 puffs a day. Since there are 20 drops in a ml., one drop roughly equals one cig.

Adrenalynn Vaping Master ECF Veteran

This is what happens when you go looking for a classic commercial - and then get side-tracked. Oh my gosh, I think I need clean undergarments, I laughed so hard...

Scamz Super Member ECF Veteran

puffs is impossible to work out. Not without a dedicated research campaign. But as a general rule, if you use more than 5-6ml a day then you are a heave user. this will increase if you are a HVV.

Pugzley Ultra Member ECF Veteran

I think the best way to ask this is not really how many puffs, but how many cartomizers or how many mls of juice per day, depending on the mg. of the juice being puffed. I use about 3mls of juice per day when dripping on a 6v mod and that is vaping practically nonstop from morning until night. I used 18 to 24 mg juice.

Nomoreash Vaping Master Verified Member ECF Veteran

Heavy, moderate and light are loose terms. I think what most people mean buy heavy is never or rarely letting the pv leave the hand, a better measurement would be how much juice is consumed.

Jorad Senior Member Verified Member ECF Veteran

tl;dr ... Kidding. When I started off I was trying to use it for about 10 minutes or so then put it away. After awhile I found I was always using it. I assume heavy vaping could be comparable to a hookah session. Constant, long inhales spread out over a long period of time.

Wingapo Vaping Master Verified Member ECF Veteran

When you go to sleep because you can't see straight, you might be vaping too much. When you find yourself vaping in the shower, you might be vaping too much. When you find that your PV is always glued to your lips while you're awake, you might vape too much. But as long as that smile is on your face you'll never get enough.

Brewlady Super Member Verified Member ECF Veteran

I have two mini reos that each hold a 3ml bottle. One holds my daytime flavor, and one holds my evening flavor. If I fill both bottles up today (Sunday), I will usually not have to fill them up again until Tuesday. So that would mean I vape about 3ml a day, except that doesn't count the fact that I am always switching to my Buzz Pro too.

kazz63758 Super Member Verified Member ECF Veteran

I'm just about at the same scenario and time frame as you. I've also been vaping approx one month and have went from two packs a day to a pack every 3-4 days.

Wingapo Vaping Master Verified Member ECF Veteran

We adjust to the switch differently. I've never slept well so I don't if my staying up all night is normal or not. But until recently I've felt just as bad as when I was smoking. I do know that I was a heavy smoker and I'm vaping at least three times as much as I ever smoked. All these wonderful new flavors are just too tasty to stop vaping them.

Wingapo Vaping Master Verified Member ECF Veteran

When I quit/switched I was at about three packs a day and combined with all the smoke from the forest fires I finally realized it was time to try something different and luckily one day every movie and commercial on the tv was about these newfangled gadgets called electronic cigarettes. Gave it a shot and now I vape far more than I ever smoked.
