sounds like a crap battery. Without a brand i can't tell you for sure but most ego style's are protected batteries that should keep them from behaving like the symptoms you describe. No protected battery should ever get "hot" from charging or discharging.

1.8ohm would only overheat from my experience if you take 3 10 second drags at 4.8v, even then by the way you made it sound you're either smoking very high pg mixes at a very high voltage, or you have a leak (most people don't notice, I've had it happen before where i see 2ml of e-liquid and 5 mins later it's empty. I go through 5ml a day at most .

You definitely have a bad battery. Send it back and get another one. The vendor should at least have a 30 day warranty, most have 90 day warranties.

Exactly! I just noticed the rapidly disappearing liquid, but I guess I just haven't realized if there's been a significant difference in the amount I vape. Sounds like you're flooding it. First thing to do is check your air intake holes. Rinse them in hot water and make sure they're fully open.
