What is a vape Wick?

The wick is the cotton that, depending on your vape device, runs through or is wrapped around your coils. It soaks up the e-juice that you use to prime your coils (more about this later) and when you fill your tank.

What happens if you chain vape?

Chain Vaping – As pleasant as it can be to chain vape, some coils just can’t handle it. When you chain vape, it causes the tank to overheat, this causes the e-liquid inside to become thinner and vaporise too quickly for the coils to saturate it.

How does an e-cigarette coil work?

It soaks up the e-juice that you use to prime your coils (more about this later) and when you fill your tank. This keeps your coils wet and the liquid that is closest to your coils heats to the point of vaporisation, resulting in the lovely clouds that we all know and love!

Why is my vape Wick burnt?

The most likely answer to this is that the wick is burnt. The wick is the cotton that, depending on your vape device, runs through or is wrapped around your coils. It soaks up the e-juice that you use to prime your coils (more about this later) and when you fill your tank.

This has been happening for the past two weeks. Every time I go to unlock mod after it goes into standby and I hit the fire button to use it, the mod ask is this a NEW or OLD coil. I haven't changed any settings.

mackman

I had the same problem no matter what I tried. Stopped when I locked resistance

i found my rdas negative post was loose at the bottom, i tightened it and it stopped asking

James

What firmware version are you running/have you been running? Does it only ask about New/Old Coil with the most recent (SP27)?

mackman

James that is correct, SP27 is what is installed don't recall about previous versions.

Isn't this behaviour normal when using temperature control with a high changing resistance material and an unlocked coil? Some materials double their resistance value at certain temperatures.

1. Make sure your coils are primed

A mistake new vapers tend to make is failing to prime vape coils adequately. “Priming” simply means making sure the wick is saturated correctly before you vape.

2. Ensure your tank is full

A cardinal rule for avoiding burnt hits: Ensure the two wicking ports (the tiny holes on either side of your coil) are never exposed. Failing to do this will significantly decrease your coil’s lifespan and increase the likelihood of hell being unleashed into your lungs!

4. Be careful not to chain vape

If you’ve had the chance to read any of our other blogs, you’ve probably seen “chain-vaping” pop up before. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that good ol’ human nature is one of the most common reasons for a lot of vape-related issues.

Conclusion

As you can see, though undeniably frustrating, there are quite a few reasons why your vape might taste burnt with a new coil. Fortunately, they’re often easy to fix. We’re confident that we’ve covered the ones that are likely to be causing you trouble. So follow the above steps and prevent those burnt hits from spoiling your day!

Cleaning Your Gunky Coils Allows You to Reuse Them

Using a coil that’s covered in sucralose residue is an absolutely awful experience, but there is a silver lining. Under the residue, you’ve still got a perfectly good coil. Sucralose is water-soluble, and that means you can restore your coil to like-new performance simply by cleaning it.

Switching to Unsweetened E-Liquid Can Increase Your Coil Life

So, one way to solve the problem of coil gunk is by cleaning your coils so you can use them again. If you’re open to the idea of trying a different type of e-liquid, though, you should consider switching to unsweetened e-liquid. Although sweetened e-liquids crowd the shelves at most vape shops, e-liquids without sucralose are still out there.

Changing Vaping Devices Can Reduce Your E-Liquid Consumption

If you don’t want to go through the work of cleaning your coils and don’t want to change e-liquids, the next best thing that you can do is reduce the amount of e-liquid you use by switching to a device that generates less vapor.
