With the heads on my clearos, I pulse fire just until the coil starts to turn red, let it cool for a few seconds, then pulse again. Do this till the coil looks clean.

You can even drop it in a small glass of vodka and shake it for a bit to remove any of the old flavoring and any dryed on bits from the coil then quick rinse with water and let it dry out for a while before screwing it back on, give it a few quick dry burns and start from go.
