Dry hits are a result of burnt cotton around the vape coil. Instead of the ejuice vaporizing, the cotton is instead being heated up and the fumes are going into your lungs. If you take a few accidental hits on your vape with a burnt coil in, then you should be fine in most cases.

What does it mean when your vape is dry?

Feb 09, 2022 · Dry hits are when the cotton (or other wicking material) in your vape is not saturated with ejuice. This can either be down to a wicking issue, a coil being ran at too high of a wattage (or in need of being changed) or simply having an empty tank!

Why does my vape hit so hard?

Dry hits occur when the wick – cotton – inside the vape isn’t saturated properly with e-liquid. The cause might be attributed to a wicking problem, running the vape with an empty tank, or simply using a high wattage setting in your device.

What do vapers hate most about dry hits?

Apr 05, 2016 · All of us in the vape community are familiar with dry hits. And if you’re not, the probability is high that you’ll experience it at least once at some point. It goes like this; if the wick material in your rda (or atomizer coil) is dry, meaning not saturated with eliquid, then you will …

Can e-liquid cause dry hits?

Some e-liquids can cause blockage of the coil. Also, e-liquids with a high concentration of VG are more likely to result in dry hits as they are highly viscous and not easily absorbable by the wick causing vapes to fail.

What is a depleted vape tank?

1. Depleted/Empty Tank. The first and simplest one is a depleted/empty tank. The atomizer is meant to heat the vape juice converting it into vapor form. Without the adequate amount of vape juice in the tank implies that there is no proper saturation of the wicking material.

What happens when the temperature of a coil is low?

When the weather temperatures are very low, the viscosity of the e-juice increases (e-juice thickens), and this increases the chances of the coil to clog which in turn results in dry hits.

Do coils go bad?

Change Your Coil. Unfortunately, coils don’t come with the dates of expiry, but of course, they go bad. Even if you don’t experience dry hits, the coil will eventually burn out. Constant replacement of the coil is healthy not only to the vape but also to your vaping experience.

How to vape on a new coil?

When preparing to vape on a new coil, either in a new vape or a replacement coil, the first thing is to open the tank and prime the coil head and allow the wicking material to get saturated with e-juice before filling your tank. Priming typically involves soaking the wicking material before installation.

Can you use e-liquid to clean coils?

Regularly using e-juices high in sweeteners and colorants may result in clogging up of your wicking material. While it’s not necessarily prohibited to vape e-liquids that may caramelize your wick or those dark-colored juices that may mess up the coils as they may be too great to avoid, you need to do regular rinses on your coil to increase their lifespan and most importantly, prevent burnt hit.

What happens if you vape too soon?

If you vape too soon and there isn't enough juice, you'll get a dry hit and possibly ruin a brand new coil. Don't let this happen. Before installing a new coil, place a few drops of e-liquid on the exposed wick. Allow it to absorb and then repeat at least once more.

Is VG a good vape?

Vegetable Glycerin (VG) is a favorite among cloud-chasers and those looking for a smooth vape. Unfortunately, it's not a big favorite among coils. All coils experience more strain from high VG e-liquids. These tend to be thicker and therefore more difficult to absorb.

How to break in a coil?

To break in your coil, take a few drags with your wattage set a bit below the minimum threshold, then gradually increase it every few minutes. This will prepare your coil for the sessions to come. You can also break in your coil by inhaling on the mouthpiece without actually firing the vape.

What happens if you don't put enough cotton between coils?

When you fail to put sufficient cotton between the coils, the heating of the coils does not go at the pace which the cotton is absorbing the e-juice. Putting a strip of cotton that is too thin will always result in a dry hit and you must put enough to avoid it.

Do you have to change cotton in e juice?

It is normal for someone to assume the need to change the cotton every time you put new e-juice in the tank. Most people do not think that it is necessary but once you experience the burnt taste, you know for sure that it is time to change the cotton. Overused cotton will be unable to soak enough e-juice causing a dry hit. In this case, a cotton change will solve the problem.

Sounds to me like a dirty flavor that's clogging your coils pretty bad. Did you mean that the stevia is already mix in the Caps, as in that's how they sell it? Or did you mix the stevia in yourself? If so, how much did you use?

You didn't say what kind of device you are using....sounds like you may need to back off on the volts or watts, if you're using a variable......

Clean tank and coils and fill with a mix of 50/50 (your choice of nic) and NO FLAVORING. See if the problem persists.

What everyone is trying to say is the ejuice your using is burning your coils prematurly. It's likely the stevia that's doing it. The dark brown residue is a dead give away. If your DYI'ing your mix I would search for a different flavoring that does not use stevia or at least uses very little of it.

With a nautilus you might want to try the two smaller air holes to draw more juice into the coil and/or adjusting your power.

What's happening is the sweetner is building gunk in your coils which is getting mixed with your ejuice only way to really fix this is clean your coil head every time it starts tasting bad or change your juice but if you want my honest opinion you just spent about 30$ on each of those atomizers I would just buy something like a kayfun clone off of eBay or a vape site for 30-40$ it really isn't that hard to build a coil and out cotton through it they hold a lot more juice you get a lot better flavor and more vapor and your coil won't gunk up and fast I went through that whole Kanger aspire ordeal time and time again wasting my money on coil heads but once you try a kayfun you won't ever go back all it would cost you is 30-40$ for the kayfun clone 3$ for a bag of organic cotton and 4$ for 50ft of 30 guage kanthal.

The Background: Understanding Dry Hits

Before discussing tips for preventing dry hits with RTAs, it’s important to understand what causes a dry hit. The name really gives it away: it’s when you try to take a hit but there isn’t enough liquid in the wick (i.e. the wick is dry).

1 – Keep Your Cotton Fluffy

One of the most important things to keep in mind is that densely-packed cotton won’t soak e-juice up as effectively as a more loosely-packed wick.

5 – Keep Your Cotton Away from the Airhole

Although this is more to avoid leaking than dry hits, most RTAs have under-coil airflow which can be prone to issues with leaking. Most of the time, this is caused by your wick either dropping down into or being too close to the under-coil airflow, which gives e-juice the opportunity to leak down and seep out of your device’s airholes.

6 – Prime Your Wicks Before Refilling and Vaping

If you haven’t applied e-juice to the wicks already, it’s important to do this before you attach the chamber casing and fill your tank. While you could fill your tank without priming your wicks and avoid problems if you give the liquid plenty of time to soak up, if you’re anything like me you won’t be that patient.

7 – Attach the Chamber Carefully and Make Finishing Touches (Without Compressing the Wick)

When you’ve wicked your coil and primed it, all you have to do is screw on the chamber. This can go wrong sometimes if your wick overhangs your deck, because it can get trapped in the threading or compressed during the process.

Traverse the Learning Curve and Enjoy Your RTA

It’s clear that sub ohm tanks are much simpler from the end-user’s perspective in comparison to RTAs. If you want a solid vaping experience without the effort, there are many options. But for many of us, pushing through the learning curve with RTAs is well worth the effort. You can get exceptional performance at a fraction of the running cost.

Can you set a vape to high?

In case the vaping device you are using has variable wattage, that means you can set it to high. However, with the setting up to a higher wattage, you are likely to experience a harsh hit because more vapor will be produced.

What does it mean when you hit your throat?

The throat hit is the feeling you get at the back of your throat from inhaling an e-cigarette. A strong one usually gives a harsh irritating sensation, a feeling that resembles having a cigarette on its way down your throat. A harsh vape hit is a common occurrence in case you are new to vaping. This might be because you still haven’t sharpened your ...

Does PG affect throat hit?

The vapor temperature greatly affects your power setting’s throat hit. As such, if you increase the power when you are already experiencing a sharp hit from the level of PG in your vape juice, you will experience an even more harsh hit.
