The link between Ohms and vapor
Back when electronic cigarettes were first introduced on the market there was no such thing as sub ohm vaping. Many of the initial atomizers and cartomizers had resistances between 2 – 3 ohms and they were designed to replicate the feeling of tobacco cigarettes to the last detail.
Some people prefer higher Ohm resistances
There are still people out there who prefer vaping on above ohm resistances, and their number is probably greater than that of e-smokers using sub ohm devices. While the amount of vapor produced is not as massive as with a sub ohm resistance, some people are more than satisfied with the whole experience and wouldn't trade it for something else.
Our recommendations for above Ohm vaping
The V2 Pro Series 3, the Vaporfi Vice, and the Joyetech eVic VTC Mini are all excellent options of starter kits which come with standard coils inside the box. On some of these devices you can also experiment with sub ohm coils, which are either included in the box as spares or can be bought separately.
What is sub ohming
But what is sub ohm vaping, and why is this such a popular thing at the moment? Well, it probably all started with the RDAs or rebuildable dripping atomizers, which allowed the user to build coils of any resistance and the trend slowly transitioned to tanks and clearomizers.
Downsides of sub Ohm vaping
Sub ohm vaping can be very rewarding, but at the same time it has a few downsides. The first is that it's mostly suitable for direct lung inhales, which is a style of vaping not that familiar to smokers or beginners.

What is the ohm of a coil?
The ohm (represented by the Ω symbol) is a measure of resistance that determines the amount of heat your coil generates. Coils resistances very from vape to vape. Vape devices will also have some internal resistance. This must be added to the coil ohm resistance to get your total resistance.
How many watts does a sub ohm vape use?

Why do vape coils have cotton?
Most vape coils are made with cotton because it's perfect for soaking up e-juice and holds it really well while still allowing air to be drawn through. However, if you haven't vaped for a while or you're just switching to a new liquid or coil, the cotton can be extremely dry. By soaking the wick in e-juice before you start vaping, you'll eliminate any risk of that dreaded 'dry hit' This is as true for those using traditional cartomizers as it is for those with newer mods. The trick is let your e-juice sit in the tank for a good 5-10 minutes at least before you take your first hit.
Does e juice burn faster?
High wattages allow you to burn through e-juice at twice the speed. It may offer bigger and better clouds, but at the cost of longevity - your vape sessions won't last as long. Once the e-juice runs out the wick will dry and result in a dry hit.
Can you burn out a vape coil?
Solution: Avoid overly sweetened vape juices; they create gunk on your coils. While this doesn't instantly burn out a coil , it can significantly shorten the life of a coil. High VG content in e-liquids can create the same effect, as vegetable glycerin is far more viscous than propylene glycol.
Why does my vape coil burn out?
Chain vaping is when a vaper takes multiple draws within a small time frame. Taking multiple draws over a few seconds will dry out the wick faster than it can soak up e-juice.
What to do if you haven't used your vape for a few weeks?
If you haven't used your vape for a few weeks, consider changing the coils and wicks. Vape juice that's been sitting on your coils is exposed to dust and bacteria. This applies especially to rebuildable atomizers.
Is it safe to vape e juice?
The longer e-juice has been out of it's sealed bottle, the more prone it is to acquire dust and any other floating particles in the air over time. It is the safest to vape e-juice that has been dripped straight out of the sealed bottle. Imagine firing up an RDA after two weeks of sitting on your desk.
Does sugar affect vaping coils?

Why does sugar caramelize?
When sugar is exposed to high heat, it'll instantly caramelize. Since e-liquid is only exposed to high heat on the coil , this means that some sugar will caramelize on the wick. This actually produces the same poor flavors that burning a wick will provide.
What is sub ohm tank?
Sub-Ohm tanks are designed to produce more clouds. They do this by having a lower resistance (0.2ohms, for instance), and this allows for less electrical resistance which in turn allows for more signal to flow to the atomizer.
What is the wattage of a box mod?
The wattage of a box mod, in layman’s terms, is essentially the amount of power you send from the mod’s battery to the atomizer (AKA your vape tank). Higher wattages equal more power, and this, in turn, creates a hotter, more intense hit. And more vapor. If you want those BIG clouds, you gotta run your vape mod at higher wattages.
What are the benefits of temperature control?
Benefits of Temperature Control Vaping 1 Better Flavor Control: Certain E Juices perform better at different temperatures. For instance: having a lower temperature might bring out the sweetness more. Or, going higher could bring out richer tones. 2 Fewer Dry Hits: Because the maximum temperature is locked, you won’t get anywhere near as many dry hits – the atomizer just can’t get enough power to do it. 3 Increased Coil Life Span: With the temperature locked, you’re not maxing out the coil every time you vape, which means the coil head will last longer. 4 You Use Less Vape Juice: Again, with the temperature locked in, you can find a sweet spot where you get great flavor at lower temperatures (and, therefore, power). Less power means less E Juice burned.

That's an old chart used for determining what voltage/wattage was safe for factory build coils. It doesn't apply to microcoils. When using a regulated device I'll use 6v on a 1.2ohm coil. I'll even use stacked 18350's on occasion. That's 8.4v on a 1.2ohm atty.

That chart shouldn't be used as a book of law. If your coil is wicking properly and you have good air flow you can easily vape at above 11w. And the coil can handle it, some subohmers will vape at 35w and more. Not sure how many amps you can safely draw from an ego though.

What are atomizer coils made of?
Most atomizer coils are made from Nichrome or Kanthal. But there are different wire types that some vapers use. Nickel, Titanium and Stainless Steel are also available, but less popular. These tend to be used for temperature control vaping and aren’t suited to all e-cigs. But that is for another time.
What is an atomizer head?
An atomizer head converts energy from the e-cig battery and heats the coil inside, this then vaporises e-liquid that is soaked into the wicking material, which is then inhaled by you. Phew. Ok let’s break atomizer heads down further. An atomizer head consists of three main parts:
How does an atomizer head work?
An atomizer head converts energy from the e-cig battery and heats the coil inside, this then vaporises e-liquid that is soaked into the wicking material, which is then inhaled by you.
Who came up with the formula for measuring electrical resistance?
Back in the 1800’s a German physicist ‘Georg Simon Ohm’ published his works regarding the physics of electricity. After lots of sciency things, he came up with a formula to calculate the measurement of electrical resistance.
What happens when you press a button?
When you press your button, it provides power to the coil. This then converts that energy to heat (If you could see your coils, they sometimes glow red when you are pressing your button), and vapourises e-liquid from the saturated wicking material.
