But its not always that simple from my experience. I have flavors that are 70/30 that have almost no throat hit, yet another flavor from the same company with the same nicotine level and also 70/30 has good throat hit. I think that strength of flavor or flavor type plays a role in this too.

While this is true, it does have it's limits. I'd say try Halo flavors. No one really can tell why some 18 mg juices don't have it and why some 12 mg juices do (given the same ratio), but if you ever want the thump, go 24 mg+.

Also another thing to watch out for is don't over buy right off the bat. Myself I have had so many flavor switches its ridiculous. I started with tobacco flavors, then it was desserts, then it was mints, now I'm on fruits. So just be ware your taste buds will change very frequently.

I'm afraid I'm another one who hasn't experienced any measurable benefit from steeping. Any juice I have liked right out of the box remained great and those that were perfumey and chemically tasting never lost that flavor even after 3+ months of steeping.
