One of the major considerations you must take is what type of throat hit you want from your device.

Can you change wattage on a vape pen or e-cigarette?

At one point, sub-ohm vaping was seen as all the rage. At sub-ohm levels, you can get more power, more vapor, and more heat. Today, sub-ohm vaping is fairly standardized. In fact, besides vape pens and small travel vape mods, most vaporizers come with at least one or two sub-ohm atomizers anyway.

How do you calculate the voltage of a vape?

To put it another way, watts is essentially how much power your vape produces and voltage is how much power is put through the device. So, as you increase the wattage the voltage also increases and vice versa. Voltage is not the only factor that affects wattage – you also need to take into account the resistance of the coils.

What is the best wattage to vape at?

Often, regardless of the type of tank, the best performance of the majority of vapes occurs between 80 and 100 watts. Higher wattages will render your coil “useless” – burn out and reduce the battery life.Jun 3, 2021

Is higher wattage better for vaping?

Basically, a higher wattage is needed to produce the right amount of vapor. -Pod systems are less about lots of vapor, and more about a satisfying nicotine hit – that's why they're made for mouth-to-lung vaping, which introduces a smaller amount of vapor into the mouth before it's inhaled.Oct 1, 2021

What does vaping at a higher wattage do?

A higher wattage equals more power provided to the coil. As the power is increased, the coil produces warmer, larger clouds of vapour from your vape – ideal for creating tricks, such as smoke rings. On the other hand, for cooler vapour clouds, simply turn the wattage right down.Feb 26, 2019

What wattage gives the best flavor?

The sweet spot for getting a balance of vapour and flavour is around 0.3ohms. Depending on your coil choice you'll want to up the wattage from anywhere between 50 and 100 watts.

Does higher wattage burn coils faster?

When you vape at a high wattage, the liquid absorbed by the coil's wick could be burning off faster than the wick material can absorb more ejuice.Aug 10, 2020

Can I vape at any wattage?

Setting your vape to a lower wattage is okay. You can still have a taste of the flavor of the juice, but not like the depth of flavors with a higher wattage. You can achieve a pretty decent vape experience at 10 watts.Sep 16, 2020

What does wattage mean in vaping?

To put it another way, watts is essentially how much power your vape produces and voltage is how much power is put through the device. So, as you increase the wattage the voltage also increases and vice versa.

How does variable wattage work?

The variable wattage device will then automatically adjust the power going through the atomiser (the voltage) to produce the power output you need (the wattage).

What does ohm mean in atomizers?

An ohm (Ω) is a unit of resistance. Essentially, the lower the resistance of your coil, the more electricity will flow through it. Increase the amount of resistance and less electricity will flow through. So when you use a lower resistance atomiser, and more electricity flows through, you will find the following:

What is the difference between variable voltage and variable wattage?

The difference between variable voltage and variable wattage is a bit like the difference between an automatic and a manual car. With a variable voltage device, you manually control the amount of power (voltage) going through your device.

What is a vape device?

Vape devices use simple circuits that contain a battery, a switch and a heating coil. The circuit is effectively a controlled short, with the power output from the battery used to create heat.

What is the resistance of a sub ohm coil?

The term sub-ohm, while still used, is not as relevant as it used to be. Coils below 1 ohm are common, and coils with a resistance of 0.8 ohms are often used for Mouth-to-Lung vaping. Even lower resistance coils, such as 0.15 coils, are often used for cloud vaping.

A Rollercoaster Of Electricity

A circuit is a complete revolution of power from power source to electrical output and back making a loop. Picture a rollercoaster with a big loop in the middle of the ride rolling continuously. At the launch, it receives a boost of power and force keeps it steadily moving along the track at a determined speed.

Voltage, Wattage and Amps Defined

Voltage is the measurement of electrical strength pushing energy through a circuit. In the case of the rollercoaster, voltage is the rate of propellant force moving the train along at a set speed. Voltage is capped for efficiency and safety, limiting the performance speed and velocity of the coaster as it goes around.

What is the wattage of a box mod?

The wattage of a box mod, in layman’s terms, is essentially the amount of power you send from the mod’s battery to the atomizer (AKA your vape tank). Higher wattages equal more power, and this, in turn, creates a hotter, more intense hit. And more vapor. If you want those BIG clouds, you gotta run your vape mod at higher wattages.

What is sub ohm tank?

Sub-Ohm tanks are designed to produce more clouds. They do this by having a lower resistance (0.2ohms, for instance), and this allows for less electrical resistance which in turn allows for more signal to flow to the atomizer.

What are the benefits of temperature control?

Benefits of Temperature Control Vaping 1 Better Flavor Control: Certain E Juices perform better at different temperatures. For instance: having a lower temperature might bring out the sweetness more. Or, going higher could bring out richer tones. 2 Fewer Dry Hits: Because the maximum temperature is locked, you won’t get anywhere near as many dry hits – the atomizer just can’t get enough power to do it. 3 Increased Coil Life Span: With the temperature locked, you’re not maxing out the coil every time you vape, which means the coil head will last longer. 4 You Use Less Vape Juice: Again, with the temperature locked in, you can find a sweet spot where you get great flavor at lower temperatures (and, therefore, power). Less power means less E Juice burned.

What does wattage mean in vaping?

In simple terms, wattage is the amount of power that you allow your device to use as you vape. The higher the wattage, the stronger the power of your vape device, but higher doesn’t always mean the best for you!

What happens if you exceed the coil rating?

Every coil is rated for its wattage suitability and if you exceed that range, you may end up with a burnt taste or hot vape on your tongue. To have a pleasant vaping experience, never go beyond what your coil rating reads. Higher power will make your coils work extra harder.

What to do if your vape is burning?

If you are experiencing burnt taste or super hot vapes, it is time you tone that wattage setting down. As a beginner, I recommend that you stick to either average setting or lower settings, and get yourself familiarized with vaping first before you crank up the wattage.

How long does e-liquid last?

Whenever you increase your system’s wattage, you should expect a higher consumption of e-liquid. For an average setting, if your e-juice lasts for 2 days , consistently vaping on high power will use it all up in just one day.

How long does a fully charged phone last?

When you run your device on higher wattage, it uses a lot of battery power, so a fully charged device may not last more than a day, or sometimes even less.

Hey guys and gals, I am very curious if running higher volts or watts has more of a throat hit, less smooth? Dose it produce more vaper? Also what is the max any average vaper vapes at?

You get a warmer vape until you start frying stuff. Personally I like 7.0w on my protank, I get better flavor there then 7.5.

wv2win ECF Guru ECF Veteran

Warmer vapor does "enhance" throat hit to a degree. Nicotine is still what provides most of the throat hit, however.

Explaining variable voltage and variable wattage to new vapers is kind of difficult. Explaining ohm resistance, especially. I always tell people the battery is only a battery, it's what you put on top of it that counts.

xpackaday Senior Member ECF Veteran

I find there is a sweet spot for each of my flavors. I run between 4.0 to 7.5 watts depending on the flavors. It seems the fruit flavors I like lower watts and tobacco more, like 6.0 to 7.5. Anything higher more TH, but flavor seems to be lost

It's really hard trying to explain VV/VW to noobs, especially older folks. They're past the point of "figuring it out". They want the path of least resistance, and I get that.

Good information BUT it's doesn't have information for dual coil heads.
