My MTL "drop-in" coil at 0.6 oms works fine at 15 watts, my RTA coil at 0.8 ohms works at 20 watts (not exact... just saying) the RTA coil is a simple clapton (single core) Fancy coils will also have slower "ramp-up" time (heats slower, cools slower) If your coil is a dual core (fused clapton) you might even push it to 20 watts.

Each variant has its own properties which effect their performance. The Fused Clapton 0.16 Ohms and Alien Clapton 0.18 Ohms are optimal at higher wattage (approximately 70 watts and above), whereas the Fused Clapton 0.37 Ohms function best at lower wattage (approximately 60 watts and below).

Hey Madison, thanks for the kind words. The amount of heat really depends on the amount of power you’re sending to the coils. Some of these builds demand a lot of wattage, like aliens, staples and fused claptons. The standard clapton, tiger and hive coils tend to work better for low and mid wattage vaping. I hope that helps.

"Fused Clapton" implies more than on core wire (nothing wrong with that... many people love those for DL) but you might like to keep it really simple for MTL... simple round wire (or single core Clapton) You might be surprised how well a simple 26 ga round wire works for that.

What is fused Clapton?

A fused Clapton is essentially a parallel build that’s been “Claptonized.”. Most multi-strand coils like Aliens are also fused together in a similar fashion. The concept originated from a builder known as Squidoode, and it was popularized by Twisted Messes and other popular builders.

What are Clapton coils made of?

Pre-made Claptons and exotic coils. When vaping first came about, coils were just made out of thin single-strands of metal. Since then, vapers have been coming up with innovative ways to enhance their vape experience, whether it be through bigger clouds or better flavor. Inevitably, the Clapton coil was born.

What is staple coil?

A staple coil is a thinner gauge strand tightly wrapped around a stack of typically 8-10 flat ribbon wires. This variation of the fused Clapton has a quicker ramp-up time due to the stacked ribbon cores. The tiny grooves in between the wraps trap e-juice and contribute to its enhanced flavor.

Why do aliens have a slower ramp up time than fused Claptons?

Aliens have a slower ramp-up time than fused Claptons due to their larger surface area. The textured outer wrap is achieved by building a regular Clapton, then carefully removing the inner core. Then, it’s wrapped around a multi-strand core containing the same gauge as the original core that was removed.

Who made the Clapton coil?

Using thinner wire and a smaller internal diameter makes it possible. The original Clapton coil was conceived by ECF veteran mrdee3 while watching his friend playing the guitar. He created it by winding a 32-gauge strand around a 24-gauge core using an electric drill.

Is a pre wrapped Clapton worth it?

Pre-wrapped Claptons are well worth the money, considering how much effort they take to build. Keep in mind that many of these exotic coils are very low in resistance and require a good understanding of battery safety and Ohm’s law, especially if you’re using them on a mechanical mod. Dave Kriegel.

What does wattage mean in vaping?

Vape wattage is a personal choice that plays a big part in your vaping journey. Whether you prefer the flavour and thick cloud production of high VG vape juice, or whether you prefer the intense hit of high PG e-liquids, a higher wattage will increase coil temperatures and vaporisation levels, meaning more vapour and arguably more enjoyment.

How many settings does a vape come with?

As you progress from starter electronic cigarettes, you will likely find that most vape devices come with three main settings. Although there are some scientific principles to know and understand, taking the time now to comprehend these terms is one way to help you to get the most from your vaping experience.

What is a vape mod?

How many watts does a 1.6 ohm coil need?

For example, you could find that a 1.6-ohm coil may need 12 watts. Coils above one ohm are intended to vaporise the e-liquid at a lower heat, as the greater temperatures that produce thicker vapour clouds are not required.

Does vaping burn at higher temperature?

Higher resistance to the incoming current naturally results in a decrease in wattage, giving a cooler throat experience. Conversely, the lower the ohms, the greater the wattage, meaning your vape device will burn at a higher temperature.

Does lower burn temperature affect vaping?

While this will undoubtedly prolong your battery life and increase the overall life expectancy of your device in general, lower burn temperatures will result in less vaporisation and a weaker vaping experience.

Can you change the wattage of a mod?

If you change the wattage, you automatically and safely change the voltage. However, changing the voltage can force an unchecked overall wattage increase that could be damaging to your device. That is why many people prefer using variable wattage mods for best results.

What is the wattage of a box mod?

The wattage of a box mod, in layman’s terms, is essentially the amount of power you send from the mod’s battery to the atomizer (AKA your vape tank). Higher wattages equal more power, and this, in turn, creates a hotter, more intense hit. And more vapor. If you want those BIG clouds, you gotta run your vape mod at higher wattages.

Can you control the temperature of a box mod?

But Temperature Control vaping is a very useful feature of a box mod, as it allows you to control the maximum temperature that the atomizer will fire at. You can set it wherever you like, for instance, if you’re vaping sweeter E Juice, you could set it nice and low, to really juice-out the flavors.

Do vape mods have a user interface?

Most modern vape mods run on a vape chip and software, just like a smartphone. Vape mods also have a user interface, buttons, and a display . In fact, they’re probably closer to a mobile phone than a cigarette in this respect. Please though, DO NOT be put off by ALL the settings and bells and whistles inside your box mod.
