Can I charge an 18650 battery at 4 volts?

With standard 18650s, the max voltage is 4.2 V. However, you need to charge it slower and slower above 3.9 V or you will damage the battery. So there is no ideal voltage for charging and the voltage varies. If the cell is discharged to under 3V, then slowly charge it until it reaches 3.2V.

What voltage should you set your vape to?

Aug 06, 2015 · The slower the charge the longer the cell would last. Take this for example AW IMR 18650 3.7v 3000mAh Flat Top This part in particular Standard Charge Rate: CC/CV ( 1.5A - 4A max.) It would lead me to believe that any charging between 1.5A and 4A is "safe". Maybe I misunderstood? BTW.. nice battery there. bluecat, Aug 6, 2015 #7

How many volts does an 18650 battery have?

I assume you are speaking of standard LCO or LMN 18650 batteries. If however you mean LiFePO4, then the max is 3.7 volts. Then you can increase the voltage so that the input current is not more than 1 to 2 A. Thus you need to have a variable voltage power supply, and an ammeter to measure the current. So you

How many V does a lithium battery charge?

Most lithium batteries charge to 4.2 V, but not all of them. LIFEPO4, A123 Lithium iron cells should only be charged to 3.65 V, or you will destroy them. Some lithium ion batteries can go be charged to 4.3 V but that will destroy most cells. LTO cells are only charged to 2.82V.

What happens if the voltage is too high?

Instead, what will happen is that the voltage will push a current through the battery, and the batterys internal resistance, generating heat in the battery. If the current/heat is too high, the battery will catch on fire.

I use a pair of AWT 35A and Smurfs 18650's, and i always prefer to charge them slowly at 0.5A, is that safer as compared to charging them at 1A? If I were given a choice I would have charge them at 0.25A.

Mooch Electron Wrangler Verified Member ECF Veteran

For the higher current batteries, 15A-rated and above, you really aren't going to see much of a difference in battery life between charging at 0.5A and 0.25A. But, it won't hurt anything to charge at the lower rate. Let the battery temperature be your guide. If any battery gets more than warm, lower the charge rate.

Robert Cromwell Moved On ECF Veteran

Probably no difference in safety but the slower charge should be easier on them and maker them last a bit longer.

As many others have previously stated lower charging amperage means less strain on the battery which in return prolongs battery life. Below .5A there is such a minor difference in battery temperature while charging that I'm not sure the extension of the batteries lifespan justifies the extended charging time.

If I have a ton of time to charge, .25A. If I need them ready yesterday, 1.00A.

Good rule of thumb if you have a choice of charge currents is to charged them at about 0.5C max. Batteries charged at or above 1C may suffer in lifespan due to heat buildup, not to mention 'Let's keep it safe'.

RTA Help

Hey there. So I am not totally new to vaping. However, this RTA business is starting to drive me crazy. I switched to RTA because my husband has been doing his for six years, and we got tired of buying new coils. I am using a Vaporesso Gen mod with a Dead Rabbit RTA.

Any ideas what these smudges are? they also seem to be present on the connectors inside the mod , where the batteries touch. Mod is Aegis X. Both are married, charged externally and were bought 2 months ago
