Go to Walmart and look for the sewing stuff. Or maybe there's a scissor section near the arts and crafts...these are $10 have a razor edge and are spring loaded. Fiskars makes them.

I just went into a medical supply shop, not a drug store or pharmacy. I walked out with a pair of curved and straight medical quality scissors for not really that much. They also had rolls of cotton baton that when opened were flat and only a few millimeters thick, looked exactly like the cotton bacon or one of those fancy cottons.

I use thrum scissors from fasttech. Their original use is cutting threads in sewing operations. China has a big cut and sew industry so lot of excellent scissors for cutting threads and cotton wicking.
