Are Mech mod better than regulated?

Mod enthusiasts prefer mech mods because the vapor production is higher than a regulated mod. In other words, without anything else to power, more of the electrical power of the battery is free to go to the atomizer.

Are Mech Mods good?

Mechanical mods are generally no less safe than a regulated mod, but there is always the possibility that things can go wrong. Since mechanical mods don't use a circuit board with safety features built in the mech mod vaper has to be more proactive in keeping the mod safe to use.

What wattage do Mech Mods vape at?

At 0.40 ohm, you will take 176 watts in the mouth and at 0.50, you will be around 141 watts. If you are looking for a Mech vaping around 100 watts, then you should aim for a resistance of 0.71 ohm. And beware, we are talking about the stacked.

What is a hybrid 510 connector?

A hybrid mod is a mechanical mod that doesn't have a standard 510 connection in the top cap. Instead there's just a 510 threaded hole that allows your atomizer to make direct contact with the battery.

Do regulated mods explode?

Should I Use a Mech Mod?

Using a mech mod is simple in concept. However, to use a mechanical mod safely you will need to have an excellent understanding of battery voltage, ohms law and the relationship of these items against accurate resistance readings.

Final Note on Mech Mods

Mechanical mods are loved by vape enthusiasts. The mods can be configured to the users liking without the restrictions of a regulated mod. For this reason, whilst using mech mods are a great option for advanced and professional vapers, they are not for beginners or even intermediate vapers.

FWIW, the Safe thing is about the batteries NOT the mod .... Regardless the type of mod you choose you are only as safe as the batteries you choose to run. The batteries I use are tested safe to 20amps or more. This means my batteries can handle as low as .2ohms. So long as I stay higher than .3, I should be safe.

Dual parallel 28g, 7 wraps, 2MM ID (around 0.3 to 0.36 Ohm). I use it for flavor. Vapor is acceptable. Maybe you can try single parallel coil.

I like single coil RTAs and mostly use 18350 mechanical mods. I tend to build 1.2ohm 2mm ID contact coils using 28awg Kanthal unless I need to accommodate a smaller build deck. I believe that the kind of atomizer, coil placement relative to the airflow, and your wicking all contribute greatly to performance.

For higher ohm builds on mech I'd use the highest gauge you are comfortable with using. I feel that coils with less mass are more efficient for mech use.

I think another reason that I don't really care for sub-ohm builds on my single-battery mechs is that they take long to ramp up.

edyle ECF Guru Verified Member ECF Veteran

The coil i'm vaping on the last few months is a twisted 28gauge kanthal , single coil; 3mm ID; about 7 wraps.

The thing with mechs and safety is to use ohms law and use the proper battery for the amps you are going to draw from it depending on your coil resistance. Also if a hybrid style top cap in the mod like a SMPL mod then ONLY use atomizers with a nicely protruding 510 center pin on it.
