Don't use kanthal in TC mode. Ni200, Ti or SS only, with proper coils in proper modes. If you use nickle or titanium in power mode it will melt the nickel and the titanium will create gasses that are harmful. If you use Kanthal in temp control mode it will work but it just won't be able to control the temp.
