If you want to avoid the risks you're reading about in the news don't carry loose batteries with unprotected terminals and don't use mech mods.

Mech mods are basically like a flashlight tube, there is no circuitry, no protections built in. The ones you've mentioned are regulated mods, have built in protections and boards and a display to veiw adjustments.

As stated previously though, be sure you have quality, legit high drain batteries for your devices.

Those looks like pipe bombs I'll leave that to the big boys! So if I just stick with the ones from the shop and buy genuine stuff am I good?

You've got great equipment, but seriously Google Ohm's law for vaping and get yourself an ohmmeter. A simple decent ohmmeter for vaping is fairly cheap and can let you know what ohms your builds are so you can save yourself from a nasty mishap. Here's an example...

I see others gave links to battery safety for vaping, and that's a great place to start. Most batteries have a maximum current output of 20 to 25 amps. So just take the voltage of your battery, usually 3.7 for single battery mods, divide by the ohms of your build and that will tell you how many amps you're drawing from your battery.

What Else Can I Do?

Until all vapes and vape batteries conform to strong and consistent safety standards, your best protection against vape battery fires or explosions may be knowing as much as possible about your device and how to properly handle and charge its batteries.

How Do I Report a Vape Battery Fire or Explosion to FDA?

Information from consumers about vape fires or explosions can help FDA to address these problems. Anyone can report any undesired health or quality problems with a vape, including fires or explosions, to FDA through the Safety Reporting Portal. When you fill out the form, please be sure to include:

You are sub-ohming with a hybrid mechanical mod

Don’t do it. You probably shouldn’t even use a hybrid to begin with unless you’re a super duper vape nerd who just wants to try every type of vape there is, in which case you’ll probably have enough knowledge to not cause an explosion.

You are sub-ohming without checking your coils using a multimeter

Multimeters are not expensive and as a bonus, not only will you avoid blowing your face off, you’ll also get better performance since you won’t be guessing any more.

You overcharge your batteries

While it seems like almost every explosion is caused by dangerously low sub-ohm vaping, overcharging batteries can in rare cases also cause them to burst.

You let batteries touch each other or metal objects

Not totally relevant since this won’t cause your mod to explode in your face, but it will cause a fire, which can really suck if you put the batteries in your pocket with your keys or loose change.
