Should you use MOSFET Mods when vaping?

However, using a MOSFET in devices that tend to get soaked with liquid, moisture and grease is pretty unique to vaping, especially squonking. Are Mosfet Mods Safe?

What is a MOSFET?

It’s actually two acronyms combined: MOS and FET. So we get the commonly known MOSFET. A mosfet acts like a gate in basic electronic circuitry, and is used in many different applications. However, using a MOSFET in devices that tend to get soaked with liquid, moisture and grease is pretty unique to vaping, especially squonking.

Do I need a MOSFET for a heavy duty switch?

You want MOSFET, especially on on an unregulated mod, without a mosfet you're running all the electrical current to the switch in the form of a circuit. Most heavy switches on mods that people see on the popular box mods are like 3 amp or 6 amp switches. Sometimes people get crazy heavy duty 20 amp switches and such but it's rare.

What is the difference between a mechanical and MOSFET mod?

The presence of a MOSFET does, however, not by itself imply that there is any form of protection on the mod, and given that there needs to be made room for it, there is no effective reduction in size over a mechanical mod - if you look at Le Petit Gros or the Calvert, you can see that they are about the same size. Mechanical = no chip at all.

What is a regulated vape?

Unlike unregulated ones, regulated vape mods are equipped with electronic circuitry that is specifically designed to regulate the current coming into it. This means that the mod will fire a constant voltage or wattage (that is set up by the user) regardless of the battery charge.

How does a mechanical vape work?

How Do Mechanical Mods Work? Mech mods use a simple process to produce vapor. The battery is in contact with both the top and bottom caps of the mod, and when it is activated, current flows into the heating coil. This circuit is all that is needed to power the mod and make it possible for you to vape.

Are Mech mod better than regulated?

Mod enthusiasts prefer mech mods because the vapor production is higher than a regulated mod. In other words, without anything else to power, more of the electrical power of the battery is free to go to the atomizer.

Are Smok Vapes regulated?

SMOK'S Advanced Personal Vaporizers have not been evaluated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and are not intended to treat, mitigate, prevent or cure any disease or condition. These products are not intended for use as smoking cessation devices.

Is mechanical vape safe?

Mechanical mods use lithium-ion batteries, but unlike regulated mods mechanical mods have no safety features (e.g short protection, overcharge protection or overheat protection). Without safety features a lithium battery can be dangerous without the proper precautions.

What is a hybrid mechanical mod?

A hybrid mod is a mechanical mod that doesn't have a standard 510 connection in the top cap. Instead there's just a 510 threaded hole that allows your atomizer to make direct contact with the battery.

How do you maintain a mechanical mod?

The best way we find cleaning your mech mod on the outside is fairly easy. We recommend using alcohol wipes to get the dirt and grime off of the outer body. If your mechanical mod has a coating on it, this tends to be the best way since this will not damage any layers.

I built an 3.7v 18650 mod a while back. It is not much bigger than the battery itself and I don't have much room to work with. I can only fit the super small tactile switches in it.

Rothman, take a look here. It doesn't explain what a Mosfet is, but shows you how to wire one in a mod.

Thanks, I've been looking for something similar. One thing tho, the MOSFET listed there wouldn't work for a 3.7v, right? It's a 4.5v gate threshold. MOSFET N-CH 40V 42A I-PAK - IRLU3114ZPBF <---here's that MOSFET. Which one shows the gate threshold?

The one problem I have with digikey....it seems like I need to buy like $5 in parts and it's $9 to ship them. Kinda ridiculous that.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the 5v regulators from Madvapes will act as a mosfet when using the control pin at 3.7v.

Scubabatdan Vaping Master Verified Member ECF Veteran

When you're looking at voltage regulators, you'll see 'em with 3 and 4 pins. The ones with 4 pins, one is a control pin. It's like an on/off switch. At least, that's my understanding.

Bahnzo, you might want to check this thread, your answer may be there.
