what happens if you vape an ni200 coil in wattage mode?

by Marques Koss DVM Published 2 years ago Updated 1 year ago

If you prime your coil and load the tank onto a mod and then crank it up to 200W, one thing will happen: you’ll burn the coil out instantly (and likely cough your guts up). Most of the time, regardless of what tank you’re using, performance will likely be best in around 80-100W (tops).

Bit of a TC noob here, just got myself an evic vtc mini and without realising the coil head in the included tank was nickel, I vaped on it for a few hours at 20W doing mouth inhales. As soon as I realised switched to my subtank with kanthal and new juice.

Not really anything you can do about it now. If you aren't feeling any ill effects, then I wouldn't worry about it too much... just make sure to not do that again.

I wouldn’t worry, a lot of us vaped Nichrome coils in 2008- 2009 and didnt suffer any bad effects. From what I understand, you would have to dry fire the coil in order to get it hot enough to possibly harm you.

LOL! I still use NiChrome80 in my mechanical mods ... just can't stand Kanthal...

Kaezziel Supreme Overlord of Everything Verified Member ECF Veteran

Haha! Nah, not gonna attack you man. Yeah, I'd say you've definitely built up a tolerance at this point!

NiChrome-80 + Rayon here. No bad effects to date. As far as vaping PURE nickel in POWER mode, as long as you're not sick to your stomach, having any difficulties breathing, or showing signs of an allergic reaction, I wouldn't worry too much. Should you do it again? Probably not.

What is the wattage of a box mod?

The wattage of a box mod, in layman’s terms, is essentially the amount of power you send from the mod’s battery to the atomizer (AKA your vape tank). Higher wattages equal more power, and this, in turn, creates a hotter, more intense hit. And more vapor. If you want those BIG clouds, you gotta run your vape mod at higher wattages.

Can you control the temperature of a box mod?

But Temperature Control vaping is a very useful feature of a box mod, as it allows you to control the maximum temperature that the atomizer will fire at. You can set it wherever you like, for instance, if you’re vaping sweeter E Juice, you could set it nice and low, to really juice-out the flavors.

Does a coil last longer with a temperature locked coil?

Increased Coil Life Span: With the temperature locked, you’re not maxing out the coil every time you vape, which means the coil head will last longer. You Use Less Vape Juice: Again, with the temperature locked in, you can find a sweet spot where you get great flavor at lower temperatures (and, therefore, power).

Do vape mods have a user interface?

Most modern vape mods run on a vape chip and software, just like a smartphone. Vape mods also have a user interface, buttons, and a display . In fact, they’re probably closer to a mobile phone than a cigarette in this respect. Please though, DO NOT be put off by ALL the settings and bells and whistles inside your box mod.

Hi, new here. I picked up some Nichrome N80 and was wondering if I can use it for wattage mode and not temp control.

Nichrome 80 (nickel chromium) has been used for voltage and wattage control for many years, that's what it's for. It's temperature coefficient of resistance is too low to be used alone for temperature control from what I've read. NI200 (nickel) has a much higher TCR and is used for temperature control.

Ni80 was not designed for tc. I enjoy Ni80 with my fruit juices. Like ss coils, seems to get clearer taste. Prefer both wires over kanthal for some of my juices. I especially enjoy Ni80 fused claptons.

emiTAtAyaDenO Full Member

I was using N80 to make twisted wire builds but it seems like the wire retains it's heat longer than kanthal so I am hearing a hissing sound come after each puff. When I use kanthal that doesn't happen.

Letitia Citrus Junkie ECF Veteran

I've never used Ni80 twisted & buy prebuilt claptons. I don't get any hissing with simple builds or pre made. Maybe opening up air flow would help or smaller diameter coils .
