Building difficulty – 8/10 Framed Staple High gauge wire around stack of ribbon cores, sandwiched between two round wires Low resistance for sub-ohm vaping

What are vape coils made of?

The vape coil is a lot like the heart of your mod or e-cigarette kit, it’s the unit responsible for heating up the e-liquid and vapourising it.The coil resistance can be adjusted according to how many wraps of a wire there are, the gauge and type of wire. You’d then measure this resistance with the help of an Ohmmeter.

How long do vape coils last?

 · Vape Coil Resistance Resistance is something else that differentiates vape coils. Resistance is determined by the diameter and gauge of the vape wire. Also of importance is the number of wraps. The higher the gauge of the wire, the thinner it is. Higher resistance coils tend to have a higher gauge. Titbit: For clarity, higher resistance coils are those that require less power …

What gauge wire is best for vaping?

Kanthal has been the choice of most vapers for a longer time, due to its ease of use and higher resistance. Mouth to lung vapers appreciate their higher builds, and a 26-28 gauge Kanthal wire is always dependable—and hard to swap for anything else.

How do I choose the right coil for my vape?

The size refers to the diameter of the coil. As a rule of thumb, the higher the wattage level of your device or the lower the resistance level of your coil, the smaller your coil may be. Small coils will give you stronger, richer flavor, while large coils will give you bigger clouds.

Which is thicker 26g or 28g?

Wire Gauge and Resistance As a rule of a thumb, the higher the value of the gauge, the thinner the wire is. As an example, a 28 gauge wire will be thinner than a 26 gauge wire, but thicker than a 30 gauge wire.

Is a higher resistance coil better?

A PLUS OHM COIL The benefits of a higher resistance coil are much more steady battery use, a cooler vape and less vapour. This of course is all a matter of preference. If you're keen on big clouds then you can forgive draining battery life (or just keep a few spares on you).

What's the difference between 0.6 and 1.4 coil?

Nord 0.6Ω mesh coil and 1.4Ω regular coil. The 0.6Ω mesh coil is specially designed for sub-ohm vaping, it has a large mesh inside, with which you can get faster heating process and massive vapour clouds; and the 1.4Ω regular coil is designed for MTL vaping, you can enjoy throat hit with it.

What is the difference between a 0.6 and 1.2 coil?

The 0.6ohm coil is perfect for hybrid sub vaping that want more clouds and low nicotine dosage. The new 1.2ohm coil is for true mouth to lung vaping and perfect for high nicotine dosage without flavourloss.

Which is thicker 24g or 26g?

Since 24-gauge is the thicker material, it's also the heavier material compared to 26-gauge. A 24-gauge roofing panel weighs approximately 30% more than a 26-gauge panel.

What are the best coils for flavor?

The best ones to go for flavour wise are clapton, titanium (if you prefer vaping with TC mode) or an Alien coil. The sweet spot for getting a balance of vapour and flavour is around 0.3ohms. Depending on your coil choice you'll want to up the wattage from anywhere between 50 and 100 watts.

What wire is best for flavor?

Thankfully for flavour-chasing vapers, Kanthal is still the most widely-used coil material and it gives a clean, natural flavour from your juice.

What strength coil do I need?

The ohms level is a way of measuring a level of electrical resistance. The standard or regular level of ohm when it comes to vaping and your clearomizer is between 2.4 and 2.8. This is by far the most common ohm range chosen by those looking for replacement coils, with the most commonly chosen being 2.5.

Is lower resistance better for vaping?

We learn that the lower the resistance and higher the voltage, the greater the resulting amount of vapour, the stronger the throat hit and more intense the taste.

What's the difference between 0.2 and 0.4 ohm coil?

"The 0.2 Ohm SuperMesh coils can be used between 60 - 70W, this wide range gives you the option to experiment with power levels to find your perfect vape. The 0.4 Ohm SuperMesh features a slightly higher 0.3 Ohm resistance and can be used between 50 - 60W, producing less vapour with more of a focus on flavour."

What's the difference in coils for vaping?

The difference between the two is the resistance and the method of vaping you use - standard coils have a higher resistance meaning less charge and juice pass through them, Sub Ohm coils have a lower resistance, less than 1.0ohms, meaning more current can go through.

What is a coil in a vape pen?

What is a Vape Coil? Vape coils are one of the most important components in any e-cigarette device. Coils are responsible for heating up the e-liquid in your device and turning it into vapour. The coil is essentially a wire that is wrapped in a spiral shape around your device's wicking material.

What Are Vape Coils?

Vape coils are one of the most critical components in atomizers. They are a crucial part of the vaping experience; one can even say they are the heart of the experience. Vape coils are technically atomizer coils, and they are housed within a vape tank.

Coil Resistance

Coil resistance refers to the amount of electrical resistance your coil has depending on the ohm of your atomizer head. Atomizer heads are what convert the electrical energy from the batteries into heat which vaporizes the e-cigs. The electrical resistance value that atomizer heads have is measured in ohms.

Types of Vaping Coil Wires

There are many different types of coil wires, and they can be made from various materials. Each material vapes differently, and how you use them or the type of e-cig you can use the wires varies from the various types of coil wires.

What is a Wire Gauge

A wire gauge found in vape coils refers to the thickness of the metal used to create a coil. A wire gauge is displayed as a numerical value and means the diameter of the wire.

Vape Coils and Vape Tanks

Vape tanks come in two main types, and they cater to different coil types. The two types of tanks are high resistance and sub-ohm.

Types of Vaping Coils

Now we come to an important question: what are the different types of vape coils? Well, there are multiple different types of coils for vape. Each type has a different vaping experience, and your choice of the coil will depend on what vaping experience you are looking for.

How Long do Vape Coils Last

Vape coils typically last for two weeks. Other factors like the type of coil, the power you use, and the type of e-liquid you vape can also affect the amount of time a coil lasts. The different types of coils for vape used can also determine their durability. Other factors include:

What is the best wire for vaping?

Nichrome. Another type of wire well suited for wattage vaping is Nichrome. Nichrome wire is an alloy composed of nickel and chromium, and may also contain other metals such as iron. Fun fact: nichrome has been used in dental work, such as fillings.

What gauge wire is used for a single strand coil?

The actual diameter for each wire isn’t really important. What matters is that as the wire gauge number increases, the wire diameter gets smaller. For example, 26 gauge (or 26g) is thinner than 24 gauge but thicker than 28 gauge. Some of the most common gauges used for single-strand coil builds are 28, 26, and 24 , and thinner wire used in the exterior of Clapton coils is usually between 40 and 32 gauge. There are others of course, and even odd number gauges.

What is Kanthal wire?

Kanthal wire is a ferritic iron-chromium-aluminum alloy with good resistance to oxidation. It is commonly used for vaping in straight wattage mode. Kanthal is a great place to start if you are just getting into rebuilding, dripping, etc. It is easy to work with, yet stiff enough to hold its shape when formed into coils—which comes into play during the wicking process. It is extremely popular as a primary wire when building single-wire coils.

Is nichrome better than Kanthal?

Nichrome behaves very much like Kanthal, but has lower resistance and heats faster. It is easy to coil and holds its shape well when wicking. Nichrome has a lower melting temperature than Kanthal, so you need to be careful when dry burning your coils—they will burn open if you aren’t careful.

What are the characteristics of wire?

These are the diameter (or gauge) of the wire, its resistance, and the ramp time of different materials.

What is wire gauge?

Wire gauge. The first basic characteristic of any wire is the actual diameter of the wire. It is commonly called the wire “gauge” and expressed as a numerical value. The actual diameter for each wire isn’t really important. What matters is that as the wire gauge number increases, the wire diameter gets smaller.

What is temperature control mod?

In basic terms, temperature control mods rely on a characteristic of your vaping wire to detect when to regulate the current and wattage delivered to the coil. Wires suitable for TC are chosen because of their Temperature Coefficient of Resistance (TCR).

Is vaping a hobby?

Like anything, vaping attracts both those with a casual interest, often as a means to quit smoking, as well as keen hobbyists . For the former, there are plenty of starter kits and easy to use vaping gadgets but the latter need much more than a simple kit to satisfy their interest.

What is ceramic coil?

A ceramic coil material is porous, so air passes through it particularly well and offers a super smooth draw. Many reviewers find that the ceramic material brings out the flavour more than other materials. They tolerate high wattages well too so they’re a great addition to the more high-powered mods on the market. Ceramic coils have also been touted to last longer than cotton coils and help prevent dry hits.

What is titanium wire?

Titanium wires are particularly soft and malleable making them easy to handle, twist and cut. This does make it slightly more expensive than its stainless steel equivalent, but that hasn’t stopped it from becoming an increasingly popular material. Titanium provides an especially clean and crisp tasting vape but there has been a lot of discussion around how safe it is. Titanium is used in fireworks to create white sparks and is more flammable than other coil materials, so vapers need to handle it with care. It’s only compatible with temperature control mode so you need to consider the temperature carefully, but many mods offer a “TC Ti” mode especially for these coils.

What is Kanthal coil?

KANTHAL COIL. Kanthal is a combination of iron, chromium and aluminium and is a popular wire used in both pre-made and home made coils. It has a super quick ramp up time and as such, creates impressive amounts of vapour. Kanthal coils are only suitable to be used in wattage mode.

What is a nichrome tin?

Nichrome is exactly what it says on the tin – 80% Chromium and 20% Nickel. This alloy heats up much quicker than Kanthal, offering a reliable amount of cloud production and a pleasant, warm vape. It also protects the heating element from oxidation, which can change the colour and even taste of your e-liquid. Nichome can only be used in wattage mode. This combined with its quick ramp up time makes it another popular choice with Sub Ohm vapers.

What gauge is coil wire?

A higher gauge number will mean a thinner wire and smaller diameter. Typically coil wire is somewhere between 22 and 32 gau ge.

How does a vape coil wire work?

A vape coil wire plays a very important role in your overall experience. It will form the coil, which works to build up the heat with the help of your battery and transmit them to your wick so it can be heated. Once your wick soaked with e-liquid is heated, then that lovely vapour will be produced.

Is vaping kit essential reading?

If you’re happily vaping along with a premium yet simplistic vape kit that’s easy to set up and use, this guide isn’t essential reading. Nevertheless, whatever your stage is in the vaping journey, knowing the basics such as the different vaping coil materials and each unique quality they possess is useful. What is the best wire for vaping?

Best Wire Type for Vaping. Different types of coil wire will behave differently to electricity and heat, and thus will have their own sets of pros and cons. Let’s take a look at the four most popular types and what each can offer you. Kanthal – As one of the most widely available types of coil wire, Kanthal is extremely popular.

What is nichrome wire?

Nichrome – This type of wire is an alloy made of nickel and chromium. The points in favour of using nichrome (NiCh) are that it holds its shape well, and it can ramp up quickly. On the downside, it’s that it isn’t so easy to find, so you’ll probably have to search online to get it.

1. INTRO TO THE USE OF VAPE COIL

In the simplest form, a vape coil is responsible for the vaporization of the e-liquid with the temperature rise. The number of the wire wraps, the gauge, and the wire type depict the efficiency of the coil resistance. Resistance is inversely proportional to the vaping temperature.

2. THE DISTINCT VAPE COIL TYPES

There are different types of wires and wicking materials that one can use for vape coil construction. Each coil type is the source of a unique metal that has special properties. Thus, they might have a different impact on the flavor and cloud vaporization. Let us explore the various types of vape coil:

3. CORRECT TIME TO CHANGE THE COIL

The duration of a coil depends on the user frequency and heat levels. One must consider several factors: wattage, voltage, and PG/VG of the e-liquid that can burn the coil. A high wattage and high VG e-liquid may cause coil burns. Thus, a frequent vaper requires coil replacement frequently.

4. THE LIFESPAN OF A VAPE COIL

Heavy vapers must change the coil weekly. It may sound like a worthless expense, but it is an investment in your vaping experience. Your ignorance may lead you to suffer in cloud production quality and vaping functionality.

5. INDICATION OF VAPE COIL DISPOSAL

Many signs indicate coil replacement time. A ready-to-burn coil or decrease of flavor is the first indication. It occurs due to incompatibility of the tank's temperature that the vape coil is unable to maintain. Chain vaping can often lead to coil disruption due to overheating.

6. RELATION BETWEEN THE NUMBER OF WRAPS AND THE COIL

The number of times you wrap the wire indicates the value of resistance. Eight wraps seem safe for starters. However, one can test and wrap the wire according to their desire. One must acknowledge that the type of wire and gauge impact the resistance level. Thus, experiment and find your perfect resistance with an ohmmeter.

7. OHMS OF THE VAPE COIL

As we are aware of the ohm, it determines the electrical resistance. It is responsible for influencing cloud production and taste. One must check the resistance level with an ohmmeter to experience desirable results and to ensure safety.

It all depends on how you set it up. Lower gauge = less resistance but the vape is determined by wire gauge, coil build/positioning, air flow, and wicking. All of these things will have an effect on the vape it produces.

SeaNap Super Member Verified Member ECF Veteran

Also if you like a cooler vape, you may also like a reduced Throat Hit. To reduce the TH place the coil lower than the air hole.

Cptfunpants Super Member ECF Veteran

If you like cooler vape than you will want a higher resistance coil, say 1.5 - 2.5 ohm wrapped with 30 - 32 awg. The lower you go in resistance (thicker the wire which is lower in gauge) the higher the watts, which translates to a warmer vape.

Filthy-Beast Vaping Master Verified Member ECF Veteran

Store bought attys have less airflow that is why even with higher ohm coils they seem hotter. I used to vape a 2.5 ohm atty at 8 watts and thought 1.5 ohm attys burned my throat at 8watts. I was amazed to find on the RM2 I now vape a .96 ohm coil at over 18 watts and think it's much better flavor than before.

At a certain point, when you have several choices, what you reach for tells a tale. With six spools from 24to 30, I still go for the 28 or 29 most of the time. 27 in Rene wire when I am feeling adventurous. 26 just takes too long to heat for me, and 30 is ok, but a springy mess to work with compared to the 28-29. Just me two cents..
