A wire gauge found in vape coils refers to the thickness of the metal used to create a coil. A wire gauge is displayed as a numerical value and means the diameter of the wire. A wire with a high numerical value is thinner; for example, a 24 gauge wire is thinner than a 22 gauge; at the same time, a 24 gauge wire is thicker than a 26 gauge wire.

As a rule of a thumb, the higher the value of the gauge, the thinner the wire is. As an example, a 28 gauge wire will be thinner than a 26 gauge wire, but thicker than a 30 gauge wire. In addition, a thicker wire will have a lower resistance while a thinner wire will have a higher resistance.Apr 12, 2018

What is a vape coil?

The vape coil is a lot like the heart of your mod or e-cigarette kit, it’s the unit responsible for heating up the e-liquid and vapourising it. The coil resistance can be adjusted according to how many wraps of a wire there are, the gauge and type of wire.

What should you look for when buying vape coils?

The variables to consider when looking at vape coils are the wire material, resistance, and the shape or style of the coil. Each of these components are combined in any given coil to provide it with its unique profile and affect its tank compatibility, ramp-up, flavor production, vapor production, and style of vaping (i.e. DTL or MTL).

What determines the Ohm rating of a vape coil?

When you fire your vape device an electric current runs from the battery and into your coil wire, the amount of electrical resistance, or ohms, determines how quickly that wire will heat up. The Ohm rating of any given coil depends on a number of factors including length of wire, style of coil wrap, amount of wires, and gauge of the coil wrap.

What does the gauge of the vape wire affect?

This also affects how quickly the wire heats up. The time it takes for the wire to heat up to appropriate vaping temperatures is called “ramp-up time”. Thicker lower gauge wire takes longer to heat up than thinner higher gauge wire, thus 30 gauge wire has a very fast ramp up time, while 22 gauge wire has a slow ramp time.

What gauge wire is best for vaping?

Kanthal has been the choice of most vapers for a longer time, due to its ease of use and higher resistance. Mouth to lung vapers appreciate their higher builds, and a 26-28 gauge Kanthal wire is always dependable—and hard to swap for anything else.

What is the difference in coil resistance for vaping?

The difference between the two is the resistance and the method of vaping you use - standard coils have a higher resistance meaning less charge and juice pass through them, Sub Ohm coils have a lower resistance, less than 1.0ohms, meaning more current can go through.

What do the numbers mean on vape coils?

What do those numbers mean for you the vapor? General rule of thumb is the lower the ohm(lower the number) the harder the hit, more vapor, warmer the vape, and shorter the battery life before recharging.

What is the meaning of gauge in coil?

Coil gauge refers to the thickness of the coils that make up the mattress. Typically, a mattress coil gauge ranges between 12 and 15. The lower the number of the gauge, the thicker and stiffer the coil will be, resulting in a firmer mattress. If you are looking for a softer mattress, choose a higher gauge number.

Nord 0.6Ω mesh coil and 1.4Ω regular coil. The 0.6Ω mesh coil is specially designed for sub-ohm vaping, it has a large mesh inside, with which you can get faster heating process and massive vapour clouds; and the 1.4Ω regular coil is designed for MTL vaping, you can enjoy throat hit with it.

What's the difference between 0.6 and 0.8 coil?

If you want a bit more flavor and juice with a bit less nicotine but still want a MTL draw, you can use the 0.8 ohm mesh coil. If you're chasing clouds, the 0.6 ohm mesh coil offers some impressive cloud production for a pod vape and wicks fast enough to handle thicker vape juice.

Is 1.4 coil for salt Nic?

Most pod mod vapers find that somewhere between 1.0 and 1.4 ohms is the sweet spot when it comes to 50mg salt nic e-liquids. In most cases, anything lower will result in a burnt taste and harsh sensation, and anything higher will produce very little vapor, not to mention a weak nicotine hit.

What is the difference between a 0.6 and 1.2 coil?

If you're looking for larger clouds, then It's recommend to use the 0.6ohm PockeX coil. When used with high VG e-liquid that's 60% VG or higher, you'll experience large clouds and clear flavour. One the other hand, new vapers and those who prefer discreet levels of cloud will prefer the 1.2 Ohm PockeX coil.

What setting should my vape be on?

As a general rule, dab temperatures are set between 315℉ to 900℉. Below 315℉ is usually too low to vaporize cannabis concentrates. And above 900℉ can release carcinogens as well as a harsh, burnt vapor.

Which is thicker 26g or 28g?

Wire Gauge and Resistance As a rule of a thumb, the higher the value of the gauge, the thinner the wire is. As an example, a 28 gauge wire will be thinner than a 26 gauge wire, but thicker than a 30 gauge wire. In addition, a thicker wire will have a lower resistance while a thinner wire will have a higher resistance.

What do the different gauges of wire mean?

What Are Wire Gauges? The gauge of a wire refers to its thickness. Each gauge is represented by a number, with smaller numbers representing thicker wire gauges and higher numbers signifying thinner wires.

What are the best coils for flavor?

The best ones to go for flavour wise are clapton, titanium (if you prefer vaping with TC mode) or an Alien coil. The sweet spot for getting a balance of vapour and flavour is around 0.3ohms. Depending on your coil choice you'll want to up the wattage from anywhere between 50 and 100 watts.

How do vape coils work?

Coils, which are sometimes referred to as atomisers, are the component of your vaping device that creates vapour.

What are the different types of coil?

MTL or “mouth-to-lung” coils are designed to replicate the experience of smoking a traditional cigarette. This means a tight draw and low power output. Generally, MTL coils are designed to be used with higher nicotine strength e-liquids, to further simulate the “throat hit” of a cigarette.

Nichrome Wire. Nichrome wire is another great wire that can be used for vaping, and is a nickel and chromium alloy. While less commonly found in stores than kanthal, nichrome is similarly resistant to oxidation and can function at high temperatures without being damaged.

How does a coil temperature control work?

To keep things simple, temperature control mode works by using the TCR or temperature coefficient of resistance of a given wires material. Materials like nickel behave predictably with regards to their resistances at certain temperatures. Your mod uses this information to regulate the current to the coil as it heats up and will reduce the current to the coil if it gets too hot, in order to keep the coil at a safe operating temperature.

How many types of wires are there for vaping?

There are five types of wires that are commonly used for vaping, and they each have differing uses and properties. Some wires can only be used for vaping with wattage, some only with temperature control mode, and one special wire can be used with either. We will discuss each one in detail down below, but first a lesson on wire gauges and resistance.

Which vape wire heats up the fastest?

Nickel heats up the fastest out of all vape wires and was the first wire used with temperature control mode. Because of its soft and springy nature, nickel wire is harder to work with than kanthal or nichrome. While nickel wire can offer better flavor and a faster ramp up time than some other vape wires (such as kanthal), ...

What is vaping coils?

Vaping is about fine-tuning your experience to get the right hit from your device. With so many finer points to iron out, coils are only one part of the equation. You have to consider how many watts you want to vape at, the flavour consistency expected from your coils - even the sort of cloud production you want.

What gauge is coil wire?

A higher gauge number will mean a thinner wire and smaller diameter. Typically coil wire is somewhere between 22 and 32 gau ge.

What tool is used to build coils?

Wire cutters. A screwdriver or metal tool to shape and tighten the coils and bolts holding the coils in place. What is coil in vape?

The coil is a component inside the atomizer. But as we know, the world of vape lingo is vast and when you say coils, we know what you mean. If your vape mod is the body, atomizer heads are the heart, a fundamental part of your vaping experience.

What are atomizer coils made of?

Most atomizer coils are made from Nichrome or Kanthal. But there are different wire types that some vapers use. Nickel, Titanium and Stainless Steel are also available, but less popular. These tend to be used for temperature control vaping and aren’t suited to all e-cigs. But that is for another time.

How does an atomizer head work?

An atomizer head converts energy from the e-cig battery and heats the coil inside, this then vaporises e-liquid that is soaked into the wicking material, which is then inhaled by you.

What is the resistance of an atomizer?

Well atomizer heads have an electrical resistance value measured in ohms (Ω). Depending on the amount of electrical resistance will depend on what ‘ohm’ your atomizer head is. Atomizer heads generally fall into two categories. High and low resistance.

Do vapers use e-liquid?

Some vapers prefer an atomizer head that lasts a long time, doesn’t use much e-liquid through the day and they don’t look for larger clouds of vapour. Other vapers are satisfied exhaling large clouds of vapour and are happy topping up with juice more frequently. The best thing to do is experiment.

28 is a nice balance between size of the wire and ohm range of a 6 to 11 wrap coil. It also relatively easy to get good coils with, a good beginners ga. With 28ga you can control the coolness of the vape by changing the ohm of the coil and the amount of air flow over it. I've used 28 to go anywhere from .6 ohms to 1.3 ohm coils.

Also if you like a cooler vape, you may also like a reduced Throat Hit. To reduce the TH place the coil lower than the air hole.

What is the cheapest wire for vaping?

The workhorse of the vaping world, Kanthal wire is the cheapest to produce and delivers the best cost to performance ratio of any material on the market. Don’t be fooled by the affordable price though, because this wire definitely gets the job done.

Which wire has the fastest firing speed?

Nickel wire coils have, hands down, the fastest firing speed out of any wire material. Nickel is one of the few metals that has zero resistance, making it extremely sensitive to electrical charges.

What is a vape coil?

The vape coil is a lot like the heart of your mod or e-cigarette kit, it’s the unit responsible for heating up the e-liquid and vapourising it. The coil resistance can be adjusted according to how many wraps of a wire there are, the gauge and type of wire. You’d then measure this resistance with the help of an Ohmmeter.

Why is my vape coil burning?

The reason for this is that the tank is running too hot for the coil to manage it. Sometimes chain vaping can also affect the lifespan of your coil as it can get too hot and start to burn the coil. If you inspect your coil and wicking material more closely, you’ll see that the cotton is often discoloured and burnt.

What is the difference between a low resistance coil and a high resistance coil?

Low resistance coils produce warmer vapour and larger clouds, whereas high resistance coils produce a cooler vape with less current. Despite being so integral, the coil is a fairly simple mechanism. It’s constructed from a coiled wire or a piece of mesh and some wicking material (usually cotton).

What is Kanthal coil?

KANTHAL COIL. Kanthal is a combination of iron, chromium and aluminium and is a popular wire used in both pre-made and home made coils. It has a super quick ramp up time and as such, creates impressive amounts of vapour. Kanthal coils are only suitable to be used in wattage mode.

How to replace a coil in a tank?

However, there are a few general steps you can follow regardless of which variety you have when you’re replacing an old coil. Unscrew the battery from the tank. Turn the tank upside down and unscrew the metal bottom cap. Unscrew the coil head from the bottom cap and screw the new coil into it.

What is ceramic coil?

A ceramic coil material is porous, so air passes through it particularly well and offers a super smooth draw. Many reviewers find that the ceramic material brings out the flavour more than other materials. They tolerate high wattages well too so they’re a great addition to the more high-powered mods on the market. Ceramic coils have also been touted to last longer than cotton coils and help prevent dry hits.

How to make a wire glow?

Oxidise the wire: Cut a 4-5 inch piece of wire, hold one end with tweezers or pliers and heat the wire at the other end until it glows orange. Slowly move the flame down the length of the wire until it all glows orange. Then swap sides and repeat the same steps. This will make the wire much easier to work with.
