Drawbacks to Pure VG
VG is well known for its thick nature, and because of this it can be quite hard on your equipment. Some set-ups can't even run with high concentrations of VG, and even if they can run, it still requires a lot of cleaning to prevent the machinery clogging up.
Benefits to Pure VG
Vaping pure VG also has some benefits, in that you know exactly what you're inhaling. With the lack of regulation surrounding vaping at the moment, manufacturers don't have to tell you what ingredients are going into their flavourings, so you can't be too sure what you're getting is safe.
Happy Medium
While vaping pure vegetable glycerin isn't any more harmful than regular e-juice, from a logistical standpoint it can be difficult to make sure your equipment can handle it. A good compromise would be a high percentage of VG with some PG and flavourings thrown in, for a more balanced vaping experience.

Yes on the USP to replace any VG in your mix. I'd not go with distilled water, other than maybe just a couple drops to lower viscosity. Water doesn't vape well.
Grimwald Vaping Master ECF Veteran
I use glycerine from Walmart or CVS and about 3% distilled water. The flavoring is in PG and I use about 15% of that.

I've been using dw and enjoying the vape I'm getting. If flavor percentages are over 12% I use 10% dw max vg. If less than 12 I use 80vg/20pg/10dw.

Buying PG is usually fairly easy. I am sensitive to it however, and I use 10% water in all my mixes. I didn't start out that way, but it's a recommendation on the thread concerning temperature control. I have to say I VASTLY prefer my vape (which I was not expecting) thinning it out improves both vape quality and flavor for me.
