Most Modern Sub Ohm Tanks Will Not Require More Than 80W – Even The High-Power Ones. All vape tanks have a performance curve, an area where they’ll perform best. How to tell wattage from voltage?

Whereas voltage is the electrical pressure contained within the battery, pushing the individual units of electrical current (amps) around the circuit, wattage provides a neatly packaged way to think about volts and amps at the same time: W = V x A.

Somehow, I inadvertently pushed the buttons just wrong today and it went from 7 watts (my usual power setting) to 50 watts (the highest setting). I didn't even mean to push any of those buttons.

I use higher wattage for an RDA with a tricore fused clapton coil. Lower wattage for a teeny flat wire coil in an RTA.

Do people really vape at such high power? If so, how often do you have to replace the coil? And how many ohms are you putting that through? The coil I replaced it with is 1.77 ohms which is about the same as the one I burned out.

Thanks. I'm kind of naive about this stuff I guess. I'm disappointed because I think I had at least another week left on that coil.

Without a lot more information it’s hard to give you a wattage. My advice would be experiment with your wattage. Take longer pulls/shorter pulls, different drip tips, different coils higher ohm/lower ohm. Different metals/materials wicking medium, yada yada yada. Best of luck

It depends on the atomizer for me. Currently vaping around 50 watts, but I've spent the last two years closer to 30 watts with a different atomizer. 70 watts on my current setup feels way too hot to me. I don't really understand how or why people go over 100 watts. Maybe I just like a cool vape.

Typically 11 watts on a 1.8ohm coil, MTL. I adjust a bit for my lack of precision in building my own coils as needed.

In that situation, the wick will actually draw & absorb more eliquid than the coil is able to burn off, because it's not getting hot enough.

Is it safe to use a coil at a lower wattage?

It's never dangerous to use a coil at a lower than recommended wattage. The only drawbacks are that you may not be applying enough power to coil to produce a satisfying vape and, depending on the tank, you may experience leaking due the eliquid not be being vaporized quickly enough. This is less likely when you are close to the recommended wattage.

Is it safe to use less than 40 watts on a coil?

No, going below the recommended wattage on a coil poses no risk at all. In fact, it will probably extend the life of your coil. If you’re getting good cloud and flavour at 40 watts, by all means stay there and consider 50 the maximum you can push that particular brand of coil to. Don’t push it higher than that.

Is it normal to have a lower ohm coil?

Not only is it normal, it is expected. As you lower the electrical resistance of your coil (build lower-ohm coils), you will be able to increase the power of your device. If you don't want to run higher wattage, I recommend going back to a higher-ohm build in your RDA.
