I don't use TC (I've tried it, wasn't impressed), but since 400 degrees is a suggested starting point for TC, why not start there and gradually work your way up until you find what you like?

I wouldn't worry to much about the recommended temp. Set the wattage to get what ever vapor or flavor you think is best. Taste is subjective

Check out Steam-Engine.org and play with the wire wizard to determine heat flux. It's not a 1:1 ratio, but I find a heat flux in the mid 200s is equivalent to about a 420F vape.
