How do mechanical vape mods work?

Mech mods use a simple process to produce vapor. The battery is in contact with both the top and bottom caps of the mod, and when it is activated, current flows into the heating coil. This circuit is all that is needed to power the mod and make it possible for you to vape. Is a Mechanical Mod Right for Me?

What keeps a mechanical mod from burning out?

With mechanical mods, you are not limited to this. Since there are no electrical circuits, there is nothing keeping your mod to fire no matter how low your coil’s resistance is.

What do I need to install an e-cigarette mod?

What you’ll need: a mod, an RDA, resistance wire, a screw driver, an ohm metre, a battery, cotton for wicking, your choice of e-liquid and a pair of tweezers and wire cutters. Using a small screwdriver, or any other object that’s small and tubular, wrap your wire into a tidy, tight spring.

Why won’t my vape MoD fire?

Since there are no electrical circuits, there is nothing keeping your mod to fire no matter how low your coil’s resistance is. The lower the ohms (resistance) of the coil, the more amps it draws from the unregulated battery which causes more power to be delivered to the coil causing juice to be vaporized faster.

How do you use a mechanical mod vape?

Mech mod vapes are simple to operate. The housing encases the battery where it (battery) is positioned in between the top and bottom caps. The top cap connects to the positive contact while the bottom cap connects to the negative contact of the battery. To fire the mech mod, you need to push the button.

Is a mech mod safe?

Are Mech Mods Safe? No lithium battery powered device is 100% safe given the amount of energy stored in what is a comparatively small battery. Regulated mods are generally safer than mechanical mods due to their inbuilt safety features that protect against faults such as short circuits.

What's a safe Ohm for Mech Mod?

For a parallel mechanical mod with dual batteries, each rated at 20A, the lowest safe resistance is 0.11ohm. But to ensure that you remain safe, build a bit higher; 0.12ohm would be better to ensure that you're vaping safely within the limits of your batteries and not stressing them.

Why do Mech Mods explode?

If an atomizer draws more current than a battery can safely provide, and there is no electronic cutoff in the device, the battery can overheat and go into thermal runaway. That can cause a fire, or—if the battery can't easily vent the heat—an explosion.

Can a vape mod explode?

Although these incidents appear uncommon, vape fires and explosions are dangerous to the person using the vaping product and others around them. There may be added dangers, for example, if a vape battery catches fire or explodes near flammable gasses or liquids, such as oxygen, propane, or gasoline.

Is it safe to use full Mech vape?

One of the most prevalent issues preventing people from using a full mech vape is safety, particularly battery explosion or battery venting. Battery venting can occur whether you are using a regulated mod or a full mechanical vape mod.

What wattage should I vape at 0.5 ohm?

For example, a 0.5 ohm coil will vape best at 15 watts up to 50 watts. Another place you can look to find out the appropriate wattage range is on the coil itself.

What wattage should I vape at 0.2 ohm?

0.3 ohms - 40 watts to 90 watts. 0.2 ohm coils - 40 watts to 100 watts.

What wattage should I vape at 0.6 ohm?

12-25 wattsIn contrast, the 0.6ohm coils have a recommended wattage of 12-25 watts. They are therefore classed as restricted direct to lung (RDL) coils, offering less clouds but conserving your battery and e juice.

How long does it take for your lungs to heal from vaping?

After one to nine months: clear and deeper breathing gradually returns; you have less coughing and shortness of breath; you regain the ability to cough productively instead of hacking, which cleans your lungs and reduce your risk of infection.

Will my vape explode if I drop it in water?

Accidentally dropping your e cigarette or vape mod A rupture to the battery can occur as a result of this pressure. The battery, container, or both can then fail. This can cause overheating or an explosion.

Is it OK to smoke and vape at the same time why?

This is known as “dual use.” The dual use of e-cigarettes and tobacco cigarettes can lead to significant health risks because smoking any amount of regular cigarettes is very harmful. People should not use both products at the same time and are strongly encouraged to completely stop using all tobacco products.

What are box style mods made of?

Box style mechanical mods have lost popularity, but many companies still specialize in making them. They can be made from wood, Ultem, Delrin, and even metal. The appeal of a box-style mech is the battery options. Box style mechs can have a single battery, dual, or even quad battery designs.

What is a mech mod built with?

Some are built with a potentiometer to control the power. The most popular of these is probably the Hexohm. Unregulated mods are a great way to “test” the idea of a mech mod. However, it is still important to follow normal safety guidelines.

What is an unregulated mod?

Unregulated mods are in a league of their own. While your standard mech doesn’t have any safety features in place, unregulated mods usually do. Just like a mech, you hit a button and the mod will immediately fire. The difference is there is circuitry built-in.

What is regulated device?

A regulated device will ensure your ohm load is in the safest range, and there are no hard shorts in your atomizer. Also important is the type of batteries to use. You only want to use a high amperage battery, and you need to buy from a trusted source and company.

Why are Kennedy mods so expensive?

I know clones are cheaper. But that could easily come at the cost of your safety. The reason a Kennedy Mod costs so much is the superior crafting and quality parts. They are handmade and tested using calibrated machinery. Saving some cash is not worth the risk of your safety.

What is a mechanical mod?

Mechanical Mods or “Mech Mods” are one of the oldest and most simple ways to vape. However, they come with a few caveats for becoming a proficient user….

What is a switch contact?

The contacts are usually copper or silver plated and the contact is usually held in place with magnets or springs. The switch contact makes a connection directly with your battery. The battery is connected to your atomizer’s 510 connection. When the switch is hit, it completes the circuit and fires the mod.

Why are mech mods dangerous?

One of the biggest dangers with mech mods is a higher potential to overheat, or for the batteries to explode due to poorly built or maintained circuitry. But there are ways you can combat this. Firstly, make sure your mod has proper ventilation.

What is mechanical mod?

Mechanical mods are, essentially, a bit of a paradox. In essence, they’re the most basic type of vaping device on the market. Largely comprising of just a container with a battery inside, the fanciest the technology gets is the circuit connecting the base, the atomiser and the connector, completed when the firing button is pressed.

What happens if you level too low on a vape?

If you level too low, your vape could malfunction, overheat, or worse, explode. It’s essential that before you attempt to build your own mod, you read up on Ohm’s law and pick up some knowledge around lithium based batteries.

Why is maintenance important?

Maintenance is equally as important as learning how to build or setup properly. Regularly cleaning your connectors, drippers, mods and tanks may be arduous and time-consuming, but it’ll save you money and ensure your safety in the long run.

Do vapes end up in mods?

Many vapers never graduate beyond the cig-a-likes and standard vapes, using their vapes only as a means to an end, a relatively healthier alternative to smoking. But for those that catch the bug, and start investigating how to create a more powerful or tailored vape experience, mechanical mods are eventually where they will end up.

How important is maintenance for a battery?

Maintenance is equally as important as learning how to build or setup properly.

Can you wrap wires around screws?

Alternatively, you can wrap the wire/leads around the screws before re-tightening, but be careful not to snap the leads with overzealous tightening. Important: the coils should not be touching anything, the cap, posts, whatever, as that could cause a short.

What is a mech mod?

Because it is much more basic than many standard vape devices, a mech mod contains only a small handful of parts. The housing is the portion that contains all of the parts and can come in many different forms.

How to maintain a mechanical mod?

What Should I Know About Mechanical Mod Safety and Maintenance? 1 Use the right batteries with your device, and keep them charged – but not overcharged. You can do this by checking the voltage level with a multimeter, charging up to 4.2 and then recharging once it drops to 3.3. 2 Perform frequent checks for short circuits, and ensure that whatever atomizer you pair with your mod is properly compatible. 3 Make sure you have allowed for good airflow so that pressure can be sufficiently released. 4 Prevent misfires by storing your mod properly, especially if it doesn’t have a locking firing mechanism.

How does a mech mod work?

Mech mods use a simple process to produce vapor. The battery is in contact with both the top and bottom caps of the mod, and when it is activated, current flows into the heating coil. This circuit is all that is needed to power the mod and make it possible for you to vape.

Is it safe to use a mech mod?

If used correctly, mech mods are rather safe. However, because there is no onboard system, it is up to you to make sure everything is working correctly. Use the right batteries with your device, and keep them charged – but not overcharged.

Is knockoff mod dangerous?

However, knockoffs can be straight up dangerous, since you have no idea who may have constructed them. Also, you will see mention of both “regulated” and “unregulated” mods, which has to do with the inclusion of a specific safety feature that is designed to protect from dangerous power issues.

Why are mechanical mods so popular?

Mechanical mods have become more popular recently because the popularity of sub-ohm vaping has grown. While e-smokers once primarily used off-the-shelf atomizers based on the earliest e-cigarette designs, products now exist that allow people to easily build atomizers to their own specifications.

Is mechanical mods new?

Mechanical mods are nothing new. They’ve been around at least since I switched to e-cigarettes in 2010, if not longer. The e-cigarettes typically sold at that time offered fairly poor battery life and vapor production compared to today’s e-cigarettes. While it was still possible for many smokers — myself included — to become full-time vapers using these early e-cigarettes, very heavy smokers sometimes found it difficult to get the nicotine needed to fully calm their cravings.

Why does my mod battery fail?

There is a danger inherent in every mechanical mod – the battery. Batteries can fail, due to over-tightening the end-caps of the mod or atomizer. They can also over-discharge due to accidentally pressing the firing pin/button for too long, causing the battery to overheat and potentially burst.

What is a mechanical mod?

Sounds simple, right? A basic mechanical mod is a tube of metal, such as stainless steel, aluminum, or brass. Along with the tube, there’s a firing pin that allows for the current in the battery to reach the attached atomizer/cartomizer/clearomizer – causing the coil (s) to heat up and vaporize the juice.

Is a mech mod harmful?

They are basic, simple, and potentially harmful.

Can you use multiple batteries in a telescoping mod?

Depending on the mod, you can be limited to the battery size that you use. Of course, if you acquire a mod that is telescoping, then you can use multiple battery sizes, making your mod far more versatile.

Do you need a lock for a firing pin?

Always make sure that there is a lock for the firing pin/button. The most common are those that are reverse threaded and require an unscrew to lock the firing pin/button. You don’t want to fall asleep with your mod firing continuously, after all, do you?

Can you buy a mechanical mod without seeing it first?

Never buy a mechanical mod without seeing it first. And by that, I mean you need to be able to get your hands on the mod before purchasing it. Think of it this way, just because your moms Ford Fusion is amazing, it doesn’t mean the one you’re buying won’t be free from defects either.

Why do you have to set the temperature on a coil?

In addition to varying the wattage or voltage output – you can also set a temperature to which you want your coil to heat to. This is to prevent burning.

What is semi regulated mod?

Semi regulated mods are a kind of intermediate mod – for someone who is perhaps used to regulated or new to mechanical. They can still provide a powerful hit but with some added features.

What is semi mechanical mod?

These are usually to select the voltage output. These are not controlled by a chip they are simply mechanical components which add a resistance into the circuit to lower the output.

What is hybrid mod?

A Hybrid mod has even less wiring than a standard mech mod. Basically the top of the battery connects directly to the 510 connection pin from the atomiser when the fire button is pressed. Internal wires / plates or the mod body and outside of the 510 connector complete the circuit with the opposite pole on the battery.

What is a Mech mod?

A typical Mech mod is usually a tube or box style – there are wires or metal plates between the battery contacts, the switch and the 510 connector. There are no circuit boards just physical connections.

hey guys, was wondering, whats the best way to hold your device when vaping?

Plumes.91 Vaping Master Verified Member ECF Veteran

The delivery system basically dictates which way you should hold the device for best results. For a top coil like the vivi nova, you should tip the device toward your mouth. For a bottom coil like the kanger, you should keep it upright allowing juice to flow into the bottom wicks. If it is flooded, you do the opposite.

InTheShade Vaping Master Verified Member ECF Veteran

So the EVOD is a bottom coil clearo (I love my EVOD by the way) - the wicks are at the bottom, and so long as you keep it topped off, you should be able to get a good vape either horizontally or vertically.

Baditude ECF Guru ECF Veteran

As those before me have said, how you hold your device depends upon the juice delivery device you use on top of the battery device.

I've got the Halo Triton, which uses the Kanga T2 tanks, if I'm not mistaken, that have the atomizer on top. The Halo branded atomizers have longer wicks then what Kanga originally supply's, so they do good at picking up off the bottom of the tank. So I normally don't pay to much attention to the direction.

Noob here and this is the first question I wanted to ask - I have the iTaste V3 and I can't quite work out if it's a top or bottom coil (yes I feel stoopid) so could anyone help me out pls and advise if I should hold this baby horizontal, vertical or just slightly tipped?!

bosun Super Member Verified Member ECF Veteran

Part of the cigarette addiction is giving your fingers something to fiddle with. When I'm not actually vaping, I'll hold my PV pretty close to horizontal and turn it. This will ensure that the wicks, wether they are top or bottom, will be in contact with the liquid. I also do this with cartos. Then I vape at about a 45 degree angle.
