I'd do a return to sender, especially as it's brand new. I'm sure it will vape well once you have a properly functional one.

My zelos came charged up to 70 percent ish, and I had none of these issues that you are having. Sounds like a dud to me... and I think you've tried everything to remedy the issue, the zelos is really non-complicated, 5 fires won't turn it off, but puts it in sleep mode, which seems to be just the same as off, in terms of power usage.
