Im not sure if they still sell the old style of smoke alarms but you could score one of those and have no more issues. Its the infared light that sets the alarms off like a motion detector works.

How about installing a bathroom exhaust fan? You get the fan and the ductwork along with some rigid insulation and you can install it in the window. Great for winter vaping without setting off the smoke alarm.

I too live in an apartment, and used to set the alarm off searing steak. A shower cap works great, because it keeps the alarm from triggering, but you can also take it off and on pretty easily. That would be an advantage over saran wrap, that you could have a usable alarm when you need it, and an alarm that doesn't go off when you're vaping.
