Stuck Vape Tank : The Solutions

There are several ways to unscrew a stuck vape tank. Let’s run down some of the tried and tested ones.

1. Non-Stick Cloth

This first method is what works for me and my type of tank. I use a rough piece of cloth, an old chamois cloth will work, and simply use it to grip the tank and twist it off.

2. Rubber Gloves

If you have a pair of rubber gloves, simply wear them to get a better grip on your tank. This works like a charm and I know a lot of vapers who’ve purchased a pair of rubber gloves simply to unscrew stuck tanks.

4. Rubber Band Wrap

If you can’t get a piece of cloth to grip your tank properly, and you can’t source a pair of rubber gloves, rubber bands can work.

5. When All Else Fails

For seriously stuck tanks, where the above methods don’t work, you might want to whip out a can of WD-40.

Stop by Hobby Lobby, and pick up a pack of leather remnants. Use those to grip the tank and bottom

Hey I (used to) have the same problem---wondered if perhaps I created more suction than a black hole and thought I was going to blow a muscle out of my back trying to unscrew them.

runamok Senior Member Verified Member ECF Veteran

II had the same problem with my tanks until I found I didn't have to crank down to keep them from leaking. In fact I created My own worst nightmare by over tightening them. Leather or silicon jar opener work great.

I just use a pliers and am careful to stay away from the glass. Ditto on not screwing them on too tightly to begin with.

That happened to me all the time with my Nautilus tank. I used pliers (carefully). Happened with my Kangertech tanks a few times too. I was being careful not to tighten the tanks too much already and it took me a while to learn why they were getting stuck. What I've found is this usually occurs when liquid get into the threads.

And if none of the gripper tips work a good one time solution is to put it into the freezer for awhile. This works even better on clearos with metal to metal connections, but will also help on a Nautilus. The metal contracts a bit so the threads end up looser.

Another tip is to keep a little juice on the silicone 'donut' and the rim of the glass. This is one place where 'too clean' can cause a problem.

So I got my new coil and was vaping again but I must have over tightened the tank when screwing it on.Now it's time for a refill and I can't get this stupid tank apart.I have tried rubber gloves and I put it in the freezer for 10 minutes too but it won't budge.

You might have to force it, sounds like the ring got bunched up and stuck, so you might have to tare it and replace the ring. PS: I always lube the rings with a little bit of e- juice, makes it a lot easier later on and they last longer.

The rubber gloves as stated above do work,,but soak atty in PGA first. If there is any juice on your atty it will transfer to the gloves & you are SOL..

Andromendous Super Member ECF Veteran

You can fold up the rubber gloves and wrap it around the tank, then use the channel lock pliers. Ive done this a few times. As long as something thick is wrapped around it, it wont scratch it

Katcandoo Super Member Verified Member ECF Veteran

Happens to me all the time. I keep a pair of pliers and one of those flat rubber grippy jar opener things on hand. If you don't have a flat rubber grippy jar opener thing, a rubber band wound tightly on the base will work. Hold onto the base with whatever rubber thing you have, and use the pliers to (gently!) unscrew the top. Good luck!!!

I do sometimes wonder if threads such as this are posted just to enjoy waiting for the obvious answer, which i have no doubt everyone knows already. Which i'm going to type anyway.

As you vape down the e-liquid, the pressure rises within the tank. There is always a little bit of ejuice around the seals of the tank and it creates that vacuum. Breaking that vacuum without breaking the tank is the goal. Does this help?
