Why is stainless steel so popular for vaping?

Like nickel and titanium, it has an impressive instantaneous ramp up time, yet it’s safe if it was exposed to a dry burn and wouldn’t cause allergic reactions. Stainless steel is especially popular because it can be used both in power and SS temperature control modes. Why TC? TC solves most of nuisances vapers have to deal with from time to time.

What are vape mods and how do they work?

Most modern vape mods run on a vape chip and software, just like a smartphone. Vape mods also have a user interface, buttons, and a display. In fact, they’re probably closer to a mobile phone than a cigarette in this respect. Please though, DO NOT be put off by ALL the settings and bells and whistles inside your box mod.

Is stainless steel safe in a vaporizer?

In this post, we look at a very commonly used material in vaporizers, stainless steel. Stainless steel is considered to be safe by most. Even users, that are very fancy about vaporizer materials tend to be ok with stainless steel in the vapor path.

Can stainless steel be used in vapor paths?

Stainless steel (among a huge variety of applications) is used in medical implants and surgical tools and equipment as well, suggesting a high degree of safety. However, does this mean that stainless steel is definitely safe to be used in vapor path?

There are coils coming out now with stainless steel wire I.e the crown, were these coils issued with temp control in mind?

Kandem Senior Member ECF Veteran

Just got the Aspire Trition tank. It comes with a 0.4 ohm SS coil. I'm noticing a little less flavour than Kanthal, but I tried it on TC with my istick 40 and the flavour was increased. I'm not sure if I should be vaping SS on temp control so I switched back. The istick 40 only has a Ni200 mode for TC.

I'm vaping now for a small week with stainless steel in TC mode and loving it! It's less springy than titanium and creates a warmer vapor then ni200.

Didn't know the istick did that! I tried it, and sure enough, after 20 seconds it came up 'Ti Coil' on the screen. But when turned on, it still showed 'ni' on the screen. Somebody try it out...I've got to head for work, but I will surely test out the function later.

I've been using the Uwell Crown tank with the .5 SS coils on my IPV4S for the last few weeks in TI mode. It works great.

SS is Gplat. Common welding wire. I enjoy the vape. It basically does not work in TC mode as the TCR coefficient requires 600F to enable TC. I enjoy the vape. Many think they are in TC mode with it but they are not. No big deal.

What is stainless steel used for?

Stainless steel (among a huge variety of applications) is used in medical implants and surgical tools and equipment as well, suggesting a high degree of safety.

What temperature does a vaporizer heat up to?

Vaporizers heat up to temperatures of 230 degrees Celsius (45 0°F) or some even a little higher. We inhale through these devices at these high temperatures, so it is only natural we want to make sure every material used in our vaporizer is safe.

Is stainless steel safe?

At the end of the day, the type of stainless steel used will have a huge effect on safety. Generally speaking, most reputable manufacturers would use stainless steel that is safe.

What coils are used in power mode?

Pretty much all coils need to use with this mode, you can use Kanthal, stainless steel (SS), and nichrome ( nickel -chrome) coils. most of readily made coils are made out of Kanthal Wire, which is why power mode tends to be oh-so-popular among users of different expertise levels.

What is power mode?

Power mode is very self explanatory. You can choose the level of wattage (amount of power per second) or voltage (the force of that power). This is used to set the optimal power for your device, as written on the coil you are using, to produce the right amount of cloud and flavor.

What is VT in heating?

Temperature Control, or as referred to sometimes as Variable Temperature (VT), is a very useful mode where you set the exact temperature threshold for heating your coils steadily. TC wires are limited to their own specific setting, as their individual heating properties vary. While using this mode, make sure that you use the correct mode for the wire of your coil.

What is bypass mode?

Bypass mode gives you the experience of raw power of your battery to heat your coils. Here you can build your coils at lower resistances than is normally accepted by power or temperature control mode, meaning that the power of the hit will be determined by the sheer state of you battery and the resistance of the atomizer.

Can you set a temperature control?

You can set personalized power or temperature control settings for your convenience. On select devices, if you have a few different power or temperature settings that you normally use, you can set these as memory settings to you can easily scroll through them to change from one setting to another.

Is Ti a nickel?

Ti ( Titanium) Ti is short for titanium. like nickel, it has a fast ramp-up time, but it doesn’t have nickel’s issue of allergic reactions. Titanium coils, also, shouldn’t be dry burnt, as the wire will oxidize and ruin the coil.

Is stainless steel wire safe?

Like nickel and titanium, it has an impressive instantaneous ramp up time, yet it’s safe if it was exposed to a dry burn and wouldn’t cause allergic reactions. Sta inless steel is especially popular because it can be used both in power and SS temperature control modes.

What is a tank in a mod?

The tank is the part of the vaporizer that acts as a reservoir your e-liquid. Generally speaking, people will use a Tank, or RTA (rebuildable tank atomizer) in mod devices, which saves time and allows you to quickly switch between flavours if and when you’re feeling it.

What is the most important part of a mod?

The battery is the most crucial part of the mod device. It’s the advanced technology of mod batteries that have allowed them to truly customize each individual vaper’s experience - which is something that most vapers will seek out on their road to ‘vapetopia’.

What is temperature control?

Temperature control is probably the most important innovation in vaping since the first variable voltage/variable wattage devices. It involves setting a maximum temperature for the vape that the coil will not exceed.

How does temperature control work?

Temperature control or TC works by using a notion called the thermal coefficient. The thermal coefficient is a property of certain materials to have their electric resistance increases or decrease depending on the temperature. Therefore by reading the resistance multiple times a second, the mod is able to also precisely estimate coil temperature.

What do I need to start using Temp Control?

To experiment temperature control you need two things: a box mod that’s TC enabled and a coil made from Nickel, Titanium or Stainless Steel.

How to vape in temperature control mode?

Most TC enables box mods have predefined profiles for Nickel (Ni), Titanium (Ti) and Stainless Steel (SS). Knowing the material your coil is built from will help you select the correct profile. Note that it is extremely important to use the appropriate setting for the best results.

Setting the right vaping temperature

Setting the right vape temperature might seem a bit tricky at first. However once you get the hang of it you’ll see it’s a very easy process. Most people vape between 392°F - 480°F (200 - 250°C), as this gives the best results in terms of vapor quality and flavor.

Is dry hit bad for vaping?

Experiencing a dry hit can be one of the worst things about vaping, and it’s a concern whether you are a new or experienced vaper. Fortunately, you may be able to say goodbye to dry hits, burned wicks, and other vaping drawbacks, thanks to temperature control vaping. Here are a few things that you should know about temperature control vaping, including how to get started.

Is temperature control vaping good?

While temperature control vaping is beneficial in several regards, there are several disadvantages that you should also take into account. Once you’re aware of the potential drawbacks, you should be able to decide if temperature control vaping is right for you.

Why is my vape consistent?

Vape consistency: By having control over the temperature your coils can rise to, the vape will be consistent from puff to puff, and even within one puff. In regular wattage mode, the hits are more inconsistent because the heat of the coil changes based on the length of the hit.

What type of wire do you use for vaping?

Next, you must vape with the right wire type. TC vaping generally uses one of these four types of vape wires: Stainless steel: this wire is very popular and readily available. It comes in various grades such as 304, 316, 316L, 317, and 430 but the most common is SS316L. SS can be used in wattage or temperature control mode.

What is temperature control vaping?

Temperature control vaping can be an amazing experience. It provides the security of consistency that wattage vaping often lacks. No one likes dry or burnt hits, or vapes that get too hot with long hits. TC vaping solves that.

What is the best wire for vaping?

TC vaping generally uses one of these four types of vape wires: 1 Stainless steel: this wire is very popular and readily available. It comes in various grades such as 304, 316, 316L, 317, and 430 but the most common is SS316L. SS can be used in wattage or temperature control mode. 2 Nickel 200: commonly known as ni200, it was the first temperature control coil but it’s less common now due to some vapers having sensitivities to nickel. 3 Titanium Grade 1: otherwise known as Ti. It works well in TC but the user has to make sure it does not get overheated. 4 Nickel ferrous: also known as NiFe, comes in various grades such as 48, 30, 52, 70 and can be used in either mode, but is not widely available.

What is the advantage of TC mode?

In TC mode, if the wick runs dry the temperature will start to rise, and therefore the temperature protection will immediately cut power to compensate.

Can you adjust wattage on a vape mod?

Prior to TC, most top vape mods could only adjust watts (another innovation from Evolv a few years prior.) Now in 2020, like wattage control, temperature control is a feature found in most vape mods.

Can you take long hits with a TC vape?

Hopefully, you’ll get a good vape and, because it’s TC, you should be able to take really long hits without fear of overheating the coil and wick. It should be just like normal—except when you run out of juice you’ll notice the vapor dropping off significantly. Adjust the temperature up or down if necessary.

What is the wattage of a box mod?

The wattage of a box mod, in layman’s terms, is essentially the amount of power you send from the mod’s battery to the atomizer (AKA your vape tank). Higher wattages equal more power, and this, in turn, creates a hotter, more intense hit. And more vapor. If you want those BIG clouds, you gotta run your vape mod at higher wattages.

Can you control the temperature of a box mod?

But Temperature Control vaping is a very useful feature of a box mod, as it allows you to control the maximum temperature that the atomizer will fire at. You can set it wherever you like, for instance, if you’re vaping sweeter E Juice, you could set it nice and low, to really juice-out the flavors.

Does a coil last longer with a temperature locked coil?

Increased Coil Life Span: With the temperature locked, you’re not maxing out the coil every time you vape, which means the coil head will last longer. You Use Less Vape Juice: Again, with the temperature locked in, you can find a sweet spot where you get great flavor at lower temperatures (and, therefore, power).

Do vape mods have a user interface?

Most modern vape mods run on a vape chip and software, just like a smartphone. Vape mods also have a user interface, buttons, and a display . In fact, they’re probably closer to a mobile phone than a cigarette in this respect. Please though, DO NOT be put off by ALL the settings and bells and whistles inside your box mod.

A Guide For Proper Vape Gear Maintenance

All too often I see people having problems with a certain tank, mod, ejuice, etc. I thought to myself how do they have all these problems? My vape mods and tanks NEVER let me down and I have only ever had issues with a select few things, though, it must be noted, 90% of said “issues” were my own fault.

Vape Tank Maintenance

Taking care of your tank is probably the most important thing you can do to keep you vaping. First off you should go by the old saying, “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.” Meaning, if nothing is wrong with your tank then don’t try to alter or fix it.

Vape Mod Maintenance

Your mod is the heart of your vaping setup, without it your vape is worthless. So, caring for your mod is of the utmost importance.

Battery Safety and Maintenance

I will not go in depth with this section too much. You can check out our review on battery safety for complete information. For basic safety you should never carry batteries in your pocket without a battery case.
