How do you calculate amps from a vape coil?

Using basic algebraic principles, you can easily plug in your voltage and divide by your coil resistance to get your amps. For instance, if you are vaping at around 10.5V with a 0.5-ohm coil, you’re looking at 10.5/0.5 = 21A.

What are amps in a vaporizer?

What are Amps? Amps, or amperes, are used to measure the amount of current flowing through your device. As it relates to vaporizers, you want to know how many amps are being pulled from your batteries.

How do you calculate voltage and resistance of a vape?

You could also say that the voltage is equal to the square root of the wattage multiplied by the resistance. So, if you have a voltage of 4.0V and a resistance of 1.0Ω, you’d be vaping on 16W.

How many amps does an efest vape cell have?

Playing on the ignorance of the average vaper, Efest claims that many of their cells have a 35 amp CDR. Unfortunately, no such cells exist. Tests indicate that these are closer to 20-Amps (if that).

How many amps is a vape?

So that 0.5-ohm coil with a fully charged battery at 4.2 volts will pull a maximum of 8.4 amps and deliver 35.3 watts.

What is vape current?

Current (I)- This is measured in Amps (A) and can be thought of as the rate at which charge flows through a surface (like a wire). The current is what we traditionally think of as electricity – the movement of electrons through wires that enable your electronic devices to work (including your vape).

What is wattage on a vape?

Wattage is simply the measure of the amount of power an electronic cigarette uses. Adjusting your vape wattage means altering the temperature produced by the atomiser/coil as the juice is heated. Adjusting your temperature settings allows you to fine-tune your vape to your desired tastes and preferences.

How many watts is a 1.6 ohm coil?

between 10-14wattsBest wattage for the 1.6ohm coil would be between 10-14watts. If using a variable wattage device we would recommend starting on 10 watts and gradually move up through each wattage until you find a suitable vape.

How many watts is a 0.33 ohm coil?

The sweet spot for getting a balance of vapour and flavour is around 0.3ohms. Depending on your coil choice you'll want to up the wattage from anywhere between 50 and 100 watts. Clapton and Alien coils usually take a bit more power to ramp up so you'll want to boost the wattage if you're using either of these options.

What do the numbers on a vape mean?

What do those numbers mean for you the vapor? General rule of thumb is the lower the ohm(lower the number) the harder the hit, more vapor, warmer the vape, and shorter the battery life before recharging.

How do I set my vape wattage?

Once you know your coil's wattage rating, start at the very bottom wattage. Then, gradually turn it up by a watt or two at a time, taking an inhale in-between. If your vape becomes too harsh or hot or tastes burnt, you know it's a little too high, so turn the wattage back down.

What does 2% on a vape mean?

The amount of nicotine in a vape depends on what nicotine strength you choose. E-liquid strength ranges from zero nicotine, up to 20mg/ml, or 2%. This means there are 20 milligrams of nicotine present in each millilitre of e-liquid.

What voltage is an 18650 battery?

18650 batteries from most reputable e-cig brands range from 3.7V to 4.3V. While simpler devices usually fire at 3.7V, you can also find certain vape pens with variable voltage. A variable voltage vape pen will allow you to change the voltage according to your preferences.

How many milliamperes can you draw in an hour?

That means that you can draw 1,000 milliamperes in one hour, 2,000 milliamperes in a half-hour, and 500 milliamperes in 2 hours. A standard e-cig will have a battery capacity of about 200-300mAh, a vape pen will have anywhere from 600-1,000mAh, and vape mods run 2,500mAh and up.

How are voltage and wattage related?

Voltage and wattage are closely related, and either way you’re changing the power level. However, in one case you’re changing the input, and in the other case, you’re changing the output. You might think of variable voltage and variable wattage like you would a manual and automatic transmission.

How to shift voltage and wattage?

To shift between voltage and wattage, you can use the following formula W=V^2/R, or , the wattage is equal to the voltage squared divided by the resistance. You could also say that the voltage is equal to the square root of the wattage multiplied by the resistance. So, if you have a voltage of 4.0V and a resistance of 1.0Ω, you’d be vaping on 16W.

What is sub ohm vaping?

Sub-ohm vaping is exactly what it sounds like, vaping with a resistance of less than one ohm. At one point, sub-ohm vaping was seen as all the rage. At sub-ohm levels, you can get more power, more vapor, and more heat. Today, sub-ohm vaping is fairly standardized.

How many batteries are needed for a box mod?

Box mods from most e-cigarette brands require multiple 18650 batteries. When using two batteries, the voltage will double, but the capacity will remain the same. So, if both of your batteries have 20 amps, the machine as a whole will still run on a current of 20 amps even if it’s using two batteries instead of one.

What is voltage in atomizer?

Voltage is defined as the difference in electric potential between two points. This tension or pressure forces the electrons to flow from the negative terminal of a battery to the positive one creating an electric current that powers the atomizer or heating element.

What does CDR mean in batteries?

CDR stands for Continuous Discharge Rating and is basically the rate at which amps can be drawn safely from a battery without it overheating. The CDR value of your batteries can be found either on the battery or in the manufacturer’s specifications.

Can you use batteries with a lower CDR rating?

This is to make sure the batteries you use can safely deliver the power needed to vape at the maximum wattage available from your device. If you only plan on using a fraction of your mod’s available power, you could potentially use batteries with a lower CDR rating.

Can you use a battery with a higher CDR?

You will need to use a battery with a higher CDR value. Alternatively, if you don’t plan on EVER using the maximum wattage your device can produce, you could reduce the Vaping Power input to the maximum you’ll vape at while using the battery you have. We hope you enjoyed using our battery amp draw / drain calculator!

Is vaping safe?

Battery safety is potentially the single most important aspect of vaping, regardless of the vaping device or setup you’re using. The good news is that VAPING IS SAFE as long as you understand battery safety ….

What is the relationship between voltage and current?

Ohm’s law is the primary relationship between voltage, current, and resistance in DC electrical circuit. Discovered and named after the German physicist Georg Ohm and published in 1827. Ohm’s law states that the current through a conductor between two points is directly proportional to the voltage across the two points.

What does the letter V stand for in a formula?

All that you have to remember is what the letters stand for in the formula; the easiest is “V” and “R” but “I” is a little harder as it stands for intensité (intensity). Described by the French scientist André-Marie Ampère as “l’intensité du courant électrique.”. V is the Voltage of your battery in Volts.

What batteries are used for box mods?

The batteries used for most mechanical and box mods are either 18650 or 26650. A batteries ability to discharge stored energy is measured in Amps. If you push the battery to its limits the chemicals inside will get hot and start to vent, hot chemicals exiting under high pressure is how a battery blows up!

What is R in a coil?

R is the resistance of your your coil in Ohms. Now that you know the relationship between voltage, current, and resistance you can use the triangle to help build your coils to get the current and wattage you want.

What is the building block of vape coils?

The building block of most vape coils is Kanthal wire and organic cotton, and you can fund a year’s supply for the same as a pack of coils. Understanding how to measure the resistance (ohms) of the coil on your atomizer is the first step to safety.

What happens when you decrease resistance?

If you decrease resistance, then the current and power will increase. Knowing the power will increase as you lower the resistance (Sub-Ohm vaping) and using the resistance formula to calculate a low resistance from the continuous discharge rate (CDR) of your battery will help keep you safe and adjust the power at the coil.

What are the three main components of an electrical circuit?

Which are the V (Voltage), I (Current) and R (Resistance). To remember it the phrase that gets taught in any electrical class goes “V over I times R” or shown as the formula:

What is an unregulated mod?

Unregulated mods, often-called “mechs,” or “improvised pipe bombs,” are a relic of the vaping past. While an unregulated mod is not always mechanical, a mechanical mod is always unregulated. This is because unregulated mods can have some simple circuitry (in the case of running multiple batteries, for example).

What is a vaporizer battery?

A vaporizer battery is nothing special. It’s nearly identical to the battery you keep in your pocket year-round, inches away from your genitals. I’m talking about the lithium ion in your cellphone. The same type of battery you’ll find in your laptop. And your tablet.

What is the maximum amount of current a battery can draw?

Also known as an amp limit, a battery’s CDR is the maximum amount of current (amps) that you can continuously draw before it heats up to dangerous levels (usually above 75° C). Think of it like a powerlifter trying to lift his weights too quickly. It’s bound to lead to injury.

What is a LiPo battery?

Then there’s the LiPo (Lithium Polymer), which can be found in many DNA devices (like the VaporShark or Lavabox). These battery packs stack multiple lithium ion cells in a protective polymer casing. They can also be found in cordless phones, RC cars, and power tools.

What is round cell lithium?

Round-cell external lithium ions are designed with exposed contacts. Like the AAs in your TV remote, this makes them easy to use in any device where they’ll fit. But also like your AAs, they’re vulnerable to a number of issues:

What is a smartphone lithium ion?

Your smartphone uses a custom-designed lithium ion, chosen specially to meet the physical demands of the device. It is tested thousands and thousands of times in the most stressful conditions your phone can produce. And then it’s tested some more.

Can you charge multiple batteries at once?

Although most single-battery devices can safely charge your batteries, you should still consider getting a dedicated battery charger. Beyond the convenience of being able to charge multiple batteries at once, dedicated chargers are simply safer.

There are many factors determining the qualities of the vapor, but IMO the one that best answers the OP is the coil area-weighted energy density, expressed in units of energy (W) per area (mm²).

Now, if they were water hoses they would both fill a bucket at the same rate...but if someone were to spray you with both of those different hoses individually do you think you would be able to tell them apart?

Bunnykiller ECF Guru Verified Member ECF Veteran

yes it matters.... consider you have 2 batteries both with the same voltage, but with different amp ratings. Lets say one was a 1 A rating and a second has a 30A rating.

dr g Moved On ECF Veteran

In the OP example, assuming both coils are made from the same wire, the 3Ω coil will have a much larger surface than the 0.25Ω, but only the same total energy delivered from the battery. The larger coil will have a much lower energy density, thus perform weaker than the subohm coil.

beckdg ECF Guru Verified Member ECF Veteran

Since they both result in the same amount of power going to the coil, just being achieved in different ways, the only difference is the amperage being pulled from your battery in either case.

ok so now we've got a divergent opinion on the matter. This is what seems to always occur, leaving me without a unanimous decision on the subject to put my curiosity as well as my insecurity on the validity of my percipiency of the subject, to rest

RedBeard4081 Full Member

It's not really a divergent opinion. You may be under the mistaken impression that output amps on a regulated circuit are the same as input amps. For example in your original post, your 13v unit can only be achieved with the same battery as the 4v example via a boost circuit.
