How much power does a sub-ohm vape use?

Originally, sub-ohm vaping was reserved for experienced vapers who want to push the boundaries with rebuildable coils. The introduction of mass-market vape vape mods has changed all that. For example, the Smok Morph 2 can fire up to a massive 230 watts and uses low resistance Plexus coils for larger clouds of vapour.

What does wattage mean in vaping?

In simple terms, wattage is the amount of power that you allow your device to use as you vape. The higher the wattage, the stronger the power of your vape device, but higher doesn’t always mean the best for you!

How much wattage do I need to vape?

If you want the best of both worlds, maintain an average wattage of about 40W.

When will vaping be available in 2020?

December 9, 2020. June 11, 2020 by John. Every beginner wonders what wattage is best for vaping and there is no clear single answer to that question. The majority of modern vape devices offer a wide range of wattage settings and it could be a daunting task for a beginner to choose the right setting. The wattage you need to choose depends on several ...

What happens if you exceed the coil rating?

Every coil is rated for its wattage suitability and if you exceed that range, you may end up with a burnt taste or hot vape on your tongue. To have a pleasant vaping experience, never go beyond what your coil rating reads. Higher power will make your coils work extra harder.

How to get a stronger throat hit?

Throat Hit. If you want a stronger throat hit, you need to turn up the wattage settings and if you want something light and easy on your throat, your device shouldn’t be working on that extra-power mode.

What to do if your vape is burning?

If you are experiencing burnt taste or super hot vapes, it is time you tone that wattage setting down. As a beginner, I recommend that you stick to either average setting or lower settings, and get yourself familiarized with vaping first before you crank up the wattage.

How long does e-liquid last?

Whenever you increase your system’s wattage, you should expect a higher consumption of e-liquid. For an average setting, if your e-juice lasts for 2 days , consistently vaping on high power will use it all up in just one day.

What does ohm mean in atomizers?

An ohm (Ω) is a unit of resistance. Essentially, the lower the resistance of your coil, the more electricity will flow through it. Increase the amount of resistance and less electricity will flow through. So when you use a lower resistance atomiser, and more electricity flows through, you will find the following:

What is the resistance of a sub ohm coil?

The term sub-ohm, while still used, is not as relevant as it used to be. Coils below 1 ohm are common, and coils with a resistance of 0.8 ohms are often used for Mouth-to-Lung vaping. Even lower resistance coils, such as 0.15 coils, are often used for cloud vaping.

What is the difference between variable voltage and variable wattage?

The difference between variable voltage and variable wattage is a bit like the difference between an automatic and a manual car. With a variable voltage device, you manually control the amount of power (voltage) going through your device.

How does variable wattage work?

The variable wattage device will then automatically adjust the power going through the atomiser (the voltage) to produce the power output you need (the wattage).

What does wattage mean in vaping?

To put it another way, watts is essentially how much power your vape produces and voltage is how much power is put through the device. So, as you increase the wattage the voltage also increases and vice versa.

What is a vape device?

Vape devices use simple circuits that contain a battery, a switch and a heating coil. The circuit is effectively a controlled short, with the power output from the battery used to create heat.

What are the benefits of temperature control?

Benefits of Temperature Control Vaping 1 Better Flavor Control: Certain E Juices perform better at different temperatures. For instance: having a lower temperature might bring out the sweetness more. Or, going higher could bring out richer tones. 2 Fewer Dry Hits: Because the maximum temperature is locked, you won’t get anywhere near as many dry hits – the atomizer just can’t get enough power to do it. 3 Increased Coil Life Span: With the temperature locked, you’re not maxing out the coil every time you vape, which means the coil head will last longer. 4 You Use Less Vape Juice: Again, with the temperature locked in, you can find a sweet spot where you get great flavor at lower temperatures (and, therefore, power). Less power means less E Juice burned.

What is the wattage of a box mod?

The wattage of a box mod, in layman’s terms, is essentially the amount of power you send from the mod’s battery to the atomizer (AKA your vape tank). Higher wattages equal more power, and this, in turn, creates a hotter, more intense hit. And more vapor. If you want those BIG clouds, you gotta run your vape mod at higher wattages.

What is sub ohm tank?

Sub-Ohm tanks are designed to produce more clouds. They do this by having a lower resistance (0.2ohms, for instance), and this allows for less electrical resistance which in turn allows for more signal to flow to the atomizer.

WHAT WATTAGE SHOULD I VAPE AT? FINDING YOUR IDEAL WATTAGE

This is one of the most common questions posed by beginner vapers. And if we were to dish a straight up answer, we would say there is no one-size-fits-all wattage level.

What Wattage Should I Vape at: Know your Tech

For the discerning vaper, variable-wattage devices are the way to go. They give you the freedom to customise your vaping experience by fine-tuning them to the exact wattage you want depending on the e-juice you’re using.

Wattage and its effect on your vape

If you are a rookie vaper you may be confused by what the term wattage means and its role in your vape. Heck, some seasoned vapers are still a bit confused! But it’s ok I’m going to break it down for you.

What is Wattage?

A Watt is a measure of the amount of power used by an electrical device. Essentially it refers to the rate in which electricity is used and can be defined as (Voltage x Voltage) / Resistance = Wattage.

Choosing the right gear for adjusting your voltage

There are two ways you can approach the gear you want to use for sub-ohming.

What are the three main elements of an electrical circuit?

The Triangle. Inside the triangle you can see the three main elements in any electrical circuit, represented by the letters V , I, and R. I would vocalize the triangle as “V over I times R” with “times” being multiplication.

How many amps can a 0.5 ohm battery draw?

As you can see, with your 0.5-ohm coil and a freshly charged battery at 4.2 volts, the resulting max current draw will be 8.4 amps. If your battery has a 10-amp limit, you are well below the cap. Don’t forget that using a dual mechanical mod in series configuration will double your amp draw per battery, and you will have to build coils with twice as high resistance to be safe. Also note that as the battery depletes, the current will also tail off. For example, when the battery reaches 3.7 volts with the same load, the current will drop to 7.4 amps (3.7 volts / 0.5 ohms)

Can you solve for voltage with triangle?

Finally, and probably not as useful to us, using the triangle you can solve for voltage in a circuit, as long as you know the values of the other two variables.

What is the second Ohm's law?

The second Ohm’s Law formula that can be of use to us is calculating resistance. Let’s say that you have a battery with a 10-amp current limit and you want to determine the lowest coil resistance that you can safely run without exceeding the CDR of the battery.

How many amps does a 0.5 ohm coil pull?

So that 0.5-ohm coil with a fully charged battery at 4.2 volts will pull a maximum of 8.4 amps and deliver 35.3 watts. You can see that as the resistance of your coil increases, current and wattage will both drop.

What is the safest ohms for a 10 amp battery?

The result tells you that your safe lower limit with the 10-amp battery is 0.47 ohms—anything lower and you risk exceeding the current limit of the battery. Of course, if you have a 25-amp battery, your low resistance drops to 0.17 ohms:

What is the ohm of a coil?

The ohm (represented by the Ω symbol) is a measure of resistance that determines the amount of heat your coil generates. Coils resistances very from vape to vape. Vape devices will also have some internal resistance. This must be added to the coil ohm resistance to get your total resistance.

How many watts does a sub ohm vape use?

Sub ohm vape pens are less than 1 ohm: hence the term "Sub-ohm". Sub-ohm vapes use a ton of power: typically 40 watts and up, sometimes exceeding 200W! On most units you can also crank down the voltage and get standard ohm hits.

Can you use sub ohm coils?

Improper coil matching can damage your power supply. "Sub-ohm vapes" are not considered Sub-ohm unless they carry high wattage/power as well, some low powered devices carry Sub-ohm coils but are considered standard - they barely produce smoke.

Just started building coils and I've been having problems with either no flavor, poor cloud production, or juice popping and dry hits. I have dual coil 9 wrap 24g kanthal. Using a segeli 150 touchscreen box mod. How many watts should I be using for this build? I've read online that 30 watts should be the maximum but that just seems really low.

Bhoot Senior Member ECF Veteran

I had the same question when I started building. Honestly. You can find out when you install the coil. I would test up the ramp times starting from 20w and test upwards. Once wicked. I would do the same again. Some people like hot vapes. I am prefer cool vapes and more flavour sensitive.

Don29palms Moved On ECF Veteran

Just on general Google searches. 30 watts seems to be the most recommended setting for a .3-.4 ohm coil which is the resistance of my current build. I seem to prefer 50-55 watts with this build. Just not sure about how much is too much. And what are the dangers (if any) of having my wattage too high.

sonicbomb Vaping Master Verified Member ECF Veteran

Right now I have a .32ohm coil in one of my tanks. I am vaping it at 55watts and 4.2volts. I personally don't like vaping anything at more than 4.2volts.

EverPresentNoob Ultra Member Verified Member ECF Veteran

Don't go pumping 50w unless for example you've got a quad coil setup under 0.15ohms.

Joergl100 Super Member

Assuming the inner diameter of the coils is 3mm, You will be at 0.4 Ohms around. To get satisfying heat flux between 220 and 280 (my favorite, not for everybody...) mW/mm² You'll need between 80 and 100 Watts. This only for example.

The only thing that is a definite in coil building is Ohms Law. screw that up and your mod can become a bomb. Past that it is mostly subjective.
