The difference between nichrome and kanthal is that for the same gauge, nichrome (also known as ni80) has a much lower resistance per mm of wire. Because of this, between builds of equal size, a nichrome build will have lower resistance.

You can add watts till it's too hot to vape. There is no max SAFE wattage. There is a point I guess were the heat generated would cause the wire to fail. But then it just breaks and stops working.
