I'm just getting into building my own coils for the subtank. How long will a coil typically last, I mean the kanthal wire bit, not the cotton?

The Ocelot Psychopomp Verified Member ECF Veteran

If you clean them, quite a long time. The one that I use daily, I dry burn and rewick on a regular basis (plus once I took it off, cleaned the deck and put it back) is a year old. That is unusually long though.

I say depends a bit on juice too. Some juices destroyed coils. When I use unflavored. I ran the same coil for 4 months and I changed it just out of boredom one day.

The Eciginator Ultra Member

It depends on the juice, as stated. Dark juice with lots of sweetener will gunk up coils super fast! Dry burning will get some more mileage out of them, but honestly if yer going to be building coils anyway, just make a new one!

Wolfenstark Vaping Master Verified Member ECF Veteran

Well I don't really know as i don't think I've had a coil I've used to the point it had gone to crap.

dhood Ultra Member Verified Member ECF Veteran

I have 17 tanks with rebuildable decks. The coils rarely "wear out" before I've decided to change the resistance to something else and build a new coil - about every two months or so. some of them have been in there for about 4 months.

First of all you cannot count the duration of a coil in time, but only in the amount of liquid vaporized with it.

How long do vape coils last?

How you vape and how well you treat your coils can significantly extend their lifespan. Generally, new coils last between one to two weeks, but that can be extended if you properly break-in new coils when you get them and practice good care and maintenance procedures during and between usages.

How to attach coils to a vaporizer?

Attach coils to vaporizer: Put your coils in place and press your firing button until they heat up completely. Just like building your coils for the first time, make sure that they heat evenly across all of the wraps. Look for signs that there is anything heating unevenly and make sure it is clean and dry.

How to saturate a vape wick?

This is where the wick is supposed to make contact with your vape juice. Take your bottle of e-liquid and carefully add a drop of vape juice in each of these holes to saturate the wick. Add another drop inside the head to saturate the wick s center.

Why does my vape get burnt?

Instead, because there’s no juice to heat, the coils heat the wicking material which will cause the material to be used up faster and produce a less than desirable vaping experience. You can avoid this by:

Why do coils need to cool down?

Your coil needs to cool down and absorb more e-liquid before it is ready to produce more vapor. If you are firing too quickly, you could be leaving your coils dry between hits without even realizing it. Don’t run your tank empty. Letting your tank drain all the way to the bottom before you refill is asking for trouble.

How to clean coils?

Rinse the coil under hot running water: Hot water will wash away any leftover debris or liquid that was sticking to the sides. Shake out the water: Gently shake out any water that is sitting between the coil wraps and then let your coils air dry on top of a paper towel or other absorbent material.

How many dry hits does a vape tank take?

Once your device has been appropriately filled, reassemble the tank and attach it to your battery. Take four to five dry hits, which is to say take a drag without activating your battery’s fire button. This allows the vape juice from the tank to siphon into the cotton of the wick.

How many ohms should a vape coil be?

This is why, in order to be on the safe side, it’s always recommended that you vape between the 0.9 and 1.9 Ohms interval and use a powerful 30A battery.

What is Kanthal alloy?

Kanthal is a general trademark term that refers to a family of iron-aluminum-chromium alloys capable of withstanding high temperatures and conduct electricity, having variable resistances with respect to their gauge. It does not oxidize (or rust) rapidly in industrial applications and is also very resistant to a wide range of corrosive elements.

What is Kanthal wire used for?

There are basically three types of Kanthal wire that are commonly used in the building of micro coils for atomizers: A1, A, and D. A1 is mostly renowned for its high resistivity and capacity to withstand corrosive agents without oxidation, even in hot or sulfuric environments. It also comes with a higher corrosion resistance and an increased hot and creep strength, making it the most popular choice for micro-coils. It also has an increased higher tensile strength in comparison with Kanthal D. Kanthal A1 can withstand temperatures of around 1400 Celsius, A can go to as high as 1350 while D can only withstand 1300 degrees. Kanthal D does not withstand corrosion to sulfuric environments as good as Kanthal A1. We recommend that you only use Kanthal A1 when building your coils.

What materials does Kanthal use?

Kanthal can work with a wide variety of wicking materials like cotton, silica, ekowool, and stainless steel mesh.

Is Kanthal wire stronger than Nichrome?

Kanthal can operate at much higher temperatures than Nichrome, its rival. As opposed to Nichrome, it has a higher resistivity, higher surface load, higher yield strength, and decreased density. It can also last up to four times as long as Nichrome wire due to its better oxidation properties and resistance to corrosive environments.

How long does a vape last?

The average duration of how long a coil lasts is about one to two weeks but can depend on several factors such as the quality of the coil, the type of E-liquid, and the frequency of the usage, etc.

What is vaping in a cigarette?

Vaping refers to inhaling the vapor of an E-cigarette or some else vaping device. Electronic cigarettes are charged by a battery device that has nicotine and other flavorings in liquid form, the device changes them into vapor and the person intakes the vapor through the device, and the process is called vaping.

How long does a coil last in a vape?

What wire you're using, how often you vape, what voltage/wattage/amperage/resistance, surface area, all play a role because how long a coil lasts will depend on how hot you make it and for how long, as well as how well the wire you are using can handle the heat.

How often do you dry burn a vape?

depends totally on the juice you're vaping...some people who vape NETs dry burn their coils once a day.

Why is temperature control important in vaping?

The main purpose of temperature control vaping is that it helps you avoid dry hits. Well, you can also do that yourself by vaping at a reasonable wattage and remembering to refill your tank. In that sense, temperature control vaping is an interesting gimmick, but it’s completely unnecessary for most people.

Why is Kanthal used for heating elements?

The reason why kanthal works so well for heating elements is because it behaves in an extremely predictable fashion when an electrical current travels through it. Kanthal immediately forms a protective layer of aluminum oxide when it’s heated, allowing it to remain extremely durable in long-term use.

What happens if you exceed the temperature limit on a mod?

Temperature control made it possible to set a temperature limit for your coil, and if the coil ever exceeded that limit, your mod would cut its power immediately to prevent a dry hit or burned wick. For temperature control technology to work, the electrical resistance of the coil needs to change when the coil heats up.

What material is used for RDA coils?

Nichrome is a common material for pre-wrapped RDA coils, but you won’t see it often in the world of sub-ohm tanks. When you’re shopping for sub-ohm tank coils, kanthal and stainless steel are the materials you’re most likely to see. Compared to kanthal, stainless steel has a slightly lower resistance and a slightly faster ramp-up time ...

Why do you need to replace a coil?

You’re replacing the coil because e-liquid residue has collected on the heating surface or because the wick is burned. The wire itself can last for an extremely long time.

What is nichrome vaping?

Nichrome is a blend of nickel and chromium. The ratios of the two metals can vary; the most common nichrome alloy for vaping is Ni80, which consists of 80-percent nickel and 20-percent chromium.

Can you use nickel coils in wattage mode?

Nickel and titanium coils are intended for temperature control vaping only and should not be used in wattage mode. Even if the resistance of a nickel or titanium coil is within your mod’s supported range, wattage-based vaping is intended only for a coil that remains relatively stable in resistance during use.
