When your vaporizer gets hot, the majority of the time it will not be due to your battery (and it is even rarer for it to be a serious issue with your battery). However, if you notice the heat is coming from outside of the device (especially if you have a box mod), it most likely means the internal parts of your battery are getting hot.
Chain Vaping
One of the more common issues for a vape getting hot is chain vaping. The coil to your device gets hot as part of the vaping process. However, if you vape continuously for long periods of time, this can cause your coil to overheat your tank. Due to this, the exterior of the tank will also get hot.

For pre-filled oil cartridges, set your pen to 3.3V
Prefilled 510 thread cartridges require lower temperatures because the material is thinner and easier to heat. We recommend starting at the lowest voltage, 3.3V, and moving up to 3.8V if it’s not giving you enough of a hit. Some oils have a thicker consistency, so just turn the dial incrementally until you get the desired hit.
For dabs (wax), set your pen between 4.0V-4.3V
Wax is typically thick, so it will take more heat to get it going. Once you load the dab in your atomizer or attachment , set the voltage at 4.0V. Take a hit and expect a big cloud with crystal clear terpene flavors.
Pro tips for extending battery life
It’s actually a myth that turning your battery on and off between sessions will drain the battery. The opposite is true! Making sure your battery is fully resting during the hours between hits will improve your overall battery life between charges.

I briefly had that setup but gave it away to a new vaper. I will say, the tank is small so depending on the coil you use, it may heat up. I don't know if that amount of heat is normal though... It is a small tank, so if it's the tank warming up I might be less concerned, but maybe still concerned.

I will say when starting out, when I only had a couple setups and would chain-vape in the mornings, sometimes my tanks would get surprisingly hot, I mean really quite warm. I was using Nautilus 2s at the time, and they are a small tank designed for MTL with fairly minimal airflow settings and they heated up noticeably.
