There's no problem with the mod. The coil you mentioned is only intended for power mode, that's why it keeps kicking you out of temp control. I assume that's the case with the coils in the other tanks you've tried. TC-NI is for nickel coils, TC-TI is for titanium. There are nickel coils available for the TFV4 if you'd like to try temp control.

It remembers the resistance of the last coil used for that particular mode so that if you put the same one back on you don't have to let it cool and lock it again.

It shouldn't apply in wattage mode. The fact that it didn't work in SS mode is just because it's not an SS coil. The resistance of SS doesn't fluctuate as much with heat as NI and TI, that's probably why it didn't kick you back to wattage.
