That's too long, in my opinion. I know with mine, if it's screwed too tight, the green light comes on immediately even if it needs charging. If it's too loose, the green light doesn't come on at all, it just stays red. Try screwing it on just a touch tighter or loosening it just a touch to see if that makes a difference.
