How to dispose of LiPo batteries?

A high-wattage halogen bulb is best for this application, as it should drain the LiPo battery in just a few hours. You can even speed up the process by hooking up several lightbulbs in parallel. After the LiPo battery has been discharged, you need to bring it to a proper battery recycling facility.

Are LiPo batteries good for drones and RC toys?

Hobbyists who own drones or other RC toys have probably used a LiPo battery at some point. Although LiPo battery technology is not new, it has enjoyed a surge in usage because of the increasing popularity of drones in the past couple of years.

How long do LiPo batteries last?

A LiPo battery typically starts to show a decline in performance after about 200 to 300 full recharge cycles. This is a massive downgrade considering that standard rechargeable Li-ion batteries available today can survive up to 1000 cycles.

How do I know what size LiPo battery I need?

Cell Configuration. A battery is constructed from rectangular cells which are connected together to form the battery. ... Battery Voltage. A LiPo cell has a nominal voltage of 3.7V, and a lipo cell = 1 cell = 1S = 3.7V. ... Battery Capacity. The 1300mAh on the picture means the capacity of the lipo battery. ... Discharge Rating.

How low can you run a 3s LiPo battery?

A LiPo battery is designed to operate within a safe voltage range, from 3V to 4.2V. Discharging below 3V could cause irreversible performance lost and even damage to the battery. Over-charging above 4.2V could be dangerous and eventually cause fire.

How many watts is a 3s LiPo?

Output Power A fully charged 2,200 mAh 3S LiPo battery would have a voltage of 12.6. Charging at 1C, it would draw roughly 28 watts of power (12.6 volts x 2.2 amps = 27.72 watts).

Is 3s LiPo faster than 2s?

Look at any battery as v is speed and mah is run time. So yes if the 3s has more voltage which 3s should then it will be faster. But if you buy a 3s 4500mah lipos and a 2s 5000mah lipo the 2s will have a longer run time.

How long will a 3S 5000mah LiPo last?

5000mah is plenty. Quote: 20-35 minutes. depending on gearing and your driving habbits if your full throttle all the time less runtime if your doing a littl eof everything slow and fast your battery will last longer.

How many amps is a 3S LiPo?

Discharge currents vary greatly and usually range from 25C to 120C+ currents. For example, 100C 5000 mAh 3S LiPo battery is able to provide 500 Amps, which in theory is enough to crank the full-size cars.

How long does a 5000mah LiPo battery last?

about 20-25 minutesA 5000 mAH battery is quoted to last for about 20-25 minutes depending on the driving speed and your driving habits. However, there are several methods that you can do for making our battery last longer. It includes the usage of proper charge voltage and balanced charging.

What does 25C mean on LiPo battery?

Don't think that your battery can deliver 130A for 1/25th of an hour = 2.4 minutes, the capacity drops as the discharge rate increases. That 25C rating is what it can deliver, and without damaging itself.

What does 50C mean on a LiPo battery?

50 x Capacity50C = 50 x Capacity (in Amps) Calculating the C-Rating of our example battery: 50 x 5 = 250A. The resulting number is the maximum sustained load you can safely put on the battery. Going higher than that will result in, at best, the degradation of the battery at a faster than normal pace.

How fast is a Velineon motor?

35+mphAlready capable of 35+mph, these models will still benefit dramatically from the addition of a brushless system. The Velineon system consists of a new brushless motor and the powerful VXL-3s Electronic Speed Control.

I have been keeping a running list of LiPo batteries that meet the following specs: 1. 3S 2. Height of 95mm and under 3.

Cotay

Thanks, I added the BW. To be honest I have doubts about its mAh rating or the dimensions seem like they'd be off. Known batteries from established manufacturers with a similar height are generally much thicker and wider at the 1500mAh+ level. Have you had any personal experience with the battery and can verify its mAh and dimensions?

John

Great stuff! If you have a fairly large power resistor bank running to an atty (I use 4 1 ohm 50 watt power resistors in parallel) the battery analyzer feature in Escribe will give you the exact capacity of any pack at any discharge power.

I've been looking at building a dna 200 box and I'm wondering what the "50c" on this venom lipo 2200mah means. Apperently it equals a lot of amps and I'm wondering if im going to need a stronger fire button and 510 connection that won't fail under high stress. Pardon the noobness, this will be my first box..

VapingBad

C = capacity, so 50 x 2.2 = 110 A The fire button only uses a little power so any normally open momentary switch should work, but it is easiest to use the on board one IMO. You do need a good 510 mainly so it has a low and stable resistance for monitoring temperature rather than raw power.

So what then would be the best quality lipo battery. I'm sure it's wrotten in another thread but there are a lot of differing opinions from what I've seen.. I've heard some good things about the venom batteries

What is the difference between a 2S and 3S battery?

If two batteries or batteries are connected in series, the voltage will increase; 2S battery means that there are two cells lipo battery in this battery, the lipo battery of one cell is 3.7V, so the battery voltage of 2S is 7.4V, the same as the battery voltage of 3S It is 11.1V, 4s voltage is 14.8v.

What is the RPM of a 4S lipid?

When using 4S lipid (14.8V) to power the same motor, the RPM is 2300 x 14.8 = 34040, and you can see the RPM increases significantly. The increase in RPM means that the electric motor can generate more thrust, more power, faster flight speed and agility.

How many amps does a 300 watt motor use?

Power = voltage * current, so lower current does not mean lower power. If you have a 300-watt electric motor and use a 3s battery, it will consume 27 amps of current, then if you switch to a 4s battery, it will consume 20.3 amps of current, which is not consuming less energy or power.

What happens when you use the battery in a RC plane?

When you use the energy in the battery, the voltage will drop. In the case of the RC plane, many flight controllers have built-in alarms. You can program the alarm to notify you when the battery voltage is below a preset point and tell you that you should land as soon as possible.

Is the throttle lever more sensitive than the 3S?

But the throttle lever has also become more sensitive and more difficult to control. Please note that due to the increased weight of the voltage regulator, battery, etc., the 4S setting is usually slightly heavier than the 3S.

What is a LiPo battery?

LiPo ( Lithium Polymer) batteries have become the industry standard in remote control over the last 5 or so years. Many Cars, Boats and Planes now use a LiPo battery so understanding basic LiPo care and practices are important for every RC enthusiast.

What to consider when increasing the battery capacity for your model?

The main thing to consider when increasing the battery capacity for your model are the physical dimensions of the new battery. Normally the bigger the capacity, the bigger the battery and the heavier the battery is (Weight is more important for Aircraft CoG).

Does a heavier battery make a plane fly faster?

In an aircraft, the extra weight that the bigger battery will likely have should be thought about. A heavier battery may affect the Centre of Gravity (CG) of the model and make it har der to fly. A heavier plane will fly faster, have a higher stall speed and land faster.

Step 2: Let's Get Building! the Cells

I chose 4000 mAh 8C cells as I plan on using it with a BLDC motor that draws 15A. The maximum current a battery can supply is its C rating multiplied by its capacity, that makes my battery capable of delivering 8*4000/1000 = 32Amps putting my 15A motor within a safe limit.

Step 3: Cell Arrangement and Soldering

I'm going for a 3S1P configuration, so I arrange the cells so they alternate orientation each cell so the positive terminal of on cell touches the negative of another. Make sure you DO NOT short circuit to cells together by connecting them + cell1 to - cell2 and - cell1 to +cell2. Unfold the tabs to be able to solder the cells together.

Step 4: Wiring Preparation

Measure the balancing cable from the far tab of the battery, along the side you want the wires coming out until just before the end of the battery by 2 cm and cut. Do the same for the discharge leads but this time make room for the XT60 connector length (which I forgot to do) and have it end by the battery's end.

Step 5: Solder All

Solder all the wires to the battery cells as shown in the schematic. Still be quick on the balancing cable, don't worry as much though about the discharge leads as the wires themselves will suck some of the heat but still don't be too slow.

Step 6: Time to Test

Wrap the cables as well as the cells with tape to provide some stress relief for the tabs. I opted for covering all the solder joints with kapton tape to avoid short circuits and I admit it, for the looks too.

Step 7: Done!

Aaaaand you're done! Making this instructable was as awesome as the battery pack itself. Thank you for reading till the end.
