It could be something as simple as a bad factory coil, a loose connection on your rebuildable, or the factory coil itself isn’t properly seated or missing an insulator. Also, some people may misjudge the size of their builds, causing their coil to touch the chamber and short out—and that will cause an “atomizer short” or an “atomizer low” error.

How do I troubleshoot a short circuit on my vaporizer?

 · The coil is a component inside the atomizer. But as we know, the world of vape lingo is vast and when you say coils, we know what you mean. If your vape mod is the body, atomizer heads are the heart, a fundamental part of your vaping experience. Housed within the vape tank, an atomizer head contains a coil of thin wire and wicking material.

Can vape mods be rough?

Vapers can be rough on mods for sure. Considering how many mods are in our hands, some accidents are going to happen. But, like any electronic device, vape mods need to be handled with proper care. Sometimes error messages are due to a damaged mod bugging out, and this can happen for a number of reasons.

Does dry burning a coil raise resistance?

Remedy: If you are using a rebuildable, note that dry burning the coil may eventually raise its resistance. If you are set on vaping on that coil, you will need to find a mod or an ohm meter that will fire it and see if dry burning it puts it into the range that your mod operates at.

Can you use a different atomizer with a mod?

Remedy: While there is nothing you can do yourself—unless you are familiar enough to replace or modify a 510 pin on a mod—sometimes using a different atomizer could work. Atomizers have different lengths on their 510 pins and some mods may just not work well with a shorter or longer one. While it’s somewhat rare these days, it is possible for an atomizer to not be compatible with a mod due to its 510 pin. If some atomizers work and others don’t, it’s likely a poorly designed 510 connection on the mod.

Is it worth vaping on a device?

Even if it sometimes works, it’s not worth vaping on a device with electronic damage. If your job or lifestyle is making you prone to damaging your mod, try buying one with an IP67 certification. These tend to be used for temperature control vaping and aren’t suited to all e-cigs. But that is for another time.

What is the resistance of an atomizer?

Well atomizer heads have an electrical resistance value measured in ohms (Ω). Depending on the amount of electrical resistance will depend on what ‘ohm’ your atomizer head is. Atomizer heads generally fall into two categories. High and low resistance.

What happens when you press a button?

When you press your button, it provides power to the coil. This then converts that energy to heat (If you could see your coils, they sometimes glow red when you are pressing your button), and vapourises e-liquid from the saturated wicking material.

What is the outer casing of an atomizer?

Doubling the number of coils halves the resistance. Cutting the tails shouldn’t change anything though unless they’re ragged and touching somewhere in which case you have a short you need to fix

I don't mean to be a jackass but come on... You're using a mech, and asking about coil resistance difference between one and two coils? Come on... You're playing a dangerous game.

asmcriminal Senior Member ECF Veteran

BTW the amp limit for that battery is 25A. 0.13 ohms draws 32A. You are greatly exceeding the battery safety limit by 28%.

asmcriminal Senior Member ECF Veteran

First off, I didn't ask a question about resistance dropping due to dual coils. If I'm trying to run a build around .14-.16, purchasing .32 coils should get me there. I usually run my builds at .16-.17 with no issue. I understand how resistance halves.

Mr. Relentless Super Member ECF Veteran

By setting them like normal, and securing them in place. The coils were just super tall. Too tall to use. Since my first set was .06 I figured I'd check the resistance like that knowing they were too tall.

asmcriminal Senior Member ECF Veteran

it sounds like, you're putting them in the deck and measuring the resistance which comes out to about 0.30 ohms. They are too tall, so you cut them. Then whath happens? They go farther in to the deck and you clamp them again.

keelalagirl55 ECF Guru ECF Veteran

If you are measuring before cutting the legs, removing the coil to cut the legs and then measuring again after cutting the legs, yes...the second measurement will be lower. The overall length of the wire from end to end has decreased.

I guess you could fire it and few times to burn off any cleaning agent, but that might burn the Cotton.

Can you wash cotton coils in hot water?

When I help noobs out I recommend a wash in warm/hot water if they are looking to make the coils last. But I would hesitate to recommend any other liquids as cotton is designed to absorb any liquid we put in there. So to believe with evaporation or time the cleaning agent is 100% gone is risky in my opinion. The idea of atomizing any cleaning agent and inhaling it is not something I would consider.
