bro, u got most of this down, I simply spray cologne near my door (vercace the dreamer is a great cologne I use, cheap and I find it covers the scent of smoke/vapour very well as it has a tobacco overtone) also get a rolled towel under there.

Yea you're fine probably. Actually overdoing it. But why not. The best thing to do in my opinion is open the window a crack and slide a small tube/hose all the way out of your window, exhale everything through that. Just discovered this method and think it's great.
