For example, you have a fully charged 4.2V 20A 18650 battery and an RDA with 0.3 Ohm coil. So 4.2 divided by 0.3 equals 14 amps. This means that this coil will draw 12.3 amps from the battery. So that’s perfectly safe for a 20A battery, making it a handy combination of coil and battery to use with a Mech mod.

The Mech mod in parallel
They were developed using two 18650, 3000mAh, 4.2V, 15A batteries as the power source. You can use other types of batteries, but always consider the difference between the voltage and current levels.

In contrast, the 0.15ohm dual mesh coils have a best recommended wattage of 60-90 watts. Both atomisers offer huge clouds and flavour production. Since these coils are sub ohm / direct to lung (DTL) in vaping style, they are recommended for use with higher VG e liquids.

What type of battery is used for vaping?

There are several lithium batteries on the market today but only a few suitable for vaping safely. Typically the three main types are ICR (LiCoO2 or LiCd) , IMR (LiMn) , and Hybrid. It has been established that IMR batteries use safer chemistry than ICR's. This is why ICR's are commonly sold with protection circuits.

Can you use mods with smaller batteries?

Yes, Most mods will only fit the size battery it is intended to use and it is strongly recommended to use only the size specified for your device. In some cases multiple smaller batteries can be stacked to fit in a device. Battery stacking should be avoided. Stacking batteries increases the batteries voltage and can cause the batteries or the device to fail.

What is the best charger for vaping?

Chargers and charging your batteries. Of the several chargers available to vapers the best and safest chargers are “smart chargers ”. Smart chargers typically have multiple charging modes, safety features like over-voltage protection, over-discharge protection.

Can you expose a battery to flame?

By following these guidelines you can be sure to select the right battery and battery charger for your device. More importantly, you can be sure you're using it safely.

What is the voltage of a lithium battery?

Lithium batteries are measured and rated by voltage, amperage and storage capacity. For vaping purposes all batteries in use are rated for a Voltage of 3.7v. This rating is the nominal or average voltage meaning the battery is considered fully charged at 4.2v and considered dead at 3.2v. Then you have the Amperage rating.

Battery Safety When Vaping

I’m going to be talking about “direct battery” mechanical mods, also known as “faux hybrid” mods, “hybrid-look” mods, or incorrectly known as “hybrid” mods.

When eCigs EXPLODE

It is believed that a disproportionate number of mech mod explosions have been from the uneducated use of a direct battery mod with a juice attachment with a common 510 connector without an extended center pin … whether that be a common clearomizer tank or RBA.

Can you use a vape mod while charging?

Once the vape battery is no longer chargeable or breaks, the mod becomes useless! It’s also worth mentioning, you’re unable to use the mod while charging unless it has a ‘pass-through’ facility.

How many volts does a vape battery have?

They provide nominally 3.7 volts of power, 4.2 volts when fully charged and slowly discharge when used. Once the vape battery is discharged below approx 3 volts, they must be charged again.

What is the circuit board on a vape battery?

Batteries have a small circuit board, usually on the bottom of the vape battery, that stops the charging or discharge of the battery in certain circumstances, such as Over-Charge, Over-Discharge and Short-Circuit. These tend to be slightly longer because of the circuitry and are normally classed as ICR.

What is an unprotected battery?

Unprotected batteries are normally classed as IMR or INR. Both Protected and Unprotected batteries come in either ‘Flat Top’ or ‘Button Top’. This means that the positive electrode (end) of the battery is either Flat or Button, with most mods using the ‘Flat Top’ type.

Is 18650 lithium ion battery dangerous?

The big one! This chemistry delivers the highest energy of any 18650 battery, but at a cost. They are the most dangerous li- ion 18650 batteries available! This is also a problem for high-current discharging, as you cannot safely discharge them at a higher current than their mAh rating.

Where you buy your batteries is more important than what you buy. Salvaged batteries with shiney new wrappers are everywhere.

The Samsung 20Rs are the only 18650s I use, and they've been great. All the tests I've seen show them outperforming the Sonys in terms of voltage sag under load and in time holding the 4.2 - 3.7 voltage range, which is what really matters for an unregulated mech. Unless you're going below 0.2 ohms, that's what I would recommend.

Do mechanical mods have safety features?

With mechanical mods, there are rarely any safety features. This sounds scary, but if you do your research and keep safety first, then you shouldn’t have anything to worry about. First and foremost, it is important to know how to use Ohm’s law. I always build on a regulated device or an ohm reader.

What is a mechanical mod?

Mechanical Mods or “Mech Mods” are one of the oldest and most simple ways to vape. However, they come with a few caveats for becoming a proficient user….

What is regulated device?

A regulated device will ensure your ohm load is in the safest range, and there are no hard shorts in your atomizer. Also important is the type of batteries to use. You only want to use a high amperage battery, and you need to buy from a trusted source and company.

Why are Kennedy mods so expensive?

I know clones are cheaper. But that could easily come at the cost of your safety. The reason a Kennedy Mod costs so much is the superior crafting and quality parts. They are handmade and tested using calibrated machinery. Saving some cash is not worth the risk of your safety.

What is hybrid tube?

A hybrid tube consists of just a few parts. The tube itself, a switch, and the top threading. Tubes come in all shapes and sizes depending on your atomizer. The most popular sizes range from 22mm to 30mm. Switches can have nearly unlimited configurations.

What is an unregulated mod?

Unregulated mods are in a league of their own. While your standard mech doesn’t have any safety features in place, unregulated mods usually do. Just like a mech, you hit a button and the mod will immediately fire. The difference is there is circuitry built-in.

What is a switch contact?

The contacts are usually copper or silver plated and the contact is usually held in place with magnets or springs. The switch contact makes a connection directly with your battery. The battery is connected to your atomizer’s 510 connection. When the switch is hit, it completes the circuit and fires the mod.

What is serial mech mod?

A serial Mech mod will double the voltage level of the batteries. For example, two 4.2V batteries will create a 8.4V supply. This should be taken into account when calculating resistance for maximum safety.

How many amps does a Samsung 25R battery have?

As our Samsung 25R battery only has 20 amps of discharge, then the coil will pump more than the capacity of the battery and therefore BOOM. In general, Mech mod users will prefer a battery like the Sony VTC5 A which can send 25 amps. One of the best places to buy batteries in Europe is NKON.

Who discovered the relationship between voltage and current?

The relationship between voltage ( V ), current (I) and resistance ( R) in any electrical circuit was first discovered by the German physicist Georg Ohm. Ohm found that at constant temperature, the electric current flowing through a fixed linear resistance is directly proportional to the voltage applied across it, and also inversely proportional to the resistance. This relationship between voltage, current, and resistance forms the basis of Ohm’s Law.

What is electrical power?

Electric power, ( P) in a circuit is the amount of energy absorbed or produced in the circuit. A source of energy such as a voltage will generate or provide energy while the connected load absorbs it. Light bulbs and heaters, for example, absorb energy and convert it into heat or light and the higher their value or rating in watts, the more energy they will use.

What is an ohm reader?

An Ohms Reader, or Ohmmeter, is an essential part of the kit for anyone looking to build their own coils, especially those looking to upgrade to a Mech mod. An Ohmmeter allows you to check the value of your resistance, to detect any possibility of short circuit and to judge if your coils are correctly mounted.

What is the relationship between voltage, current, and resistance?

Ohm found that at constant temperature, the electric current flowing through a fixed linear resistance is directly proportional to the voltage applied across it, and also inversely proportional to the resistance. This relationship between voltage, current, and resistance forms the basis of Ohm’s Law.
