Oct 13, 2019 · The basic advice is that most vape pens won’t support sub ohm tanks, and in general, very low-resistance (i.e. a small number of ohms, such as 0.04 ohms) coils won’t fire on many devices at all. How to fix a mechanical mod that isn't firing?
When your mechanical mod isn’t firing, the first and perhaps most obvious troubleshooting step is to try a different battery. The batteries used in most mechanical mods are considered “dead” when they drop to about 3.2 volts. A battery discharged below this level may not be able to fire an atomizer coil and may, in fact, be unsafe to use. Swap out your current battery for one that you know to be fully charged and see if the mechanical mod fires. Because a mechanical mod has no display to supply information about the battery, many mech mod owners find it very helpful to use a battery voltage checker periodically.
What is mechanical mod?
Mechanical mods are prized by a subset of e-cigarette users for their low cost and simplicity. They’re also ideal for e-smokers who build their own atomizer coils, because they always output the full voltage of the battery to the coil — nothing is lost to wires and chips. The one thing that mechanical mods lack, though, is feedback.

An important note about hybrid mods: A hybrid mod is a device with a hole rather than a pin in the top cap. In most mechanical mods, the top cap includes a pin that touches the top of the battery and the bottom of the atomizer.

Why won't my e-cigarette fire?
The most obvious problems that could lead to your e-cig not firing are that your device isn’t switched on, that your battery isn’t charged or that your wattage setting is too low. Most devices switch on with three or five quick presses of the fire button, so try that first – usually an LED will flash or the screen will activate so you can see when it’s switched on. If this doesn’t work, the battery could be depleted, so try plugging your device into a charger (for mods with on-board charging or in-built batteries) or removing the battery and charging it separately (for devices with removable batteries).

Hey everyone, I just bought my first vape a few days ago so I'm not sure exactly what I'm doing. I have the SMOK AL85. I've only been using it for the past 2 days as it is brand new and tonight I was not able to vape past about 55 watts. By that I mean when I press the fire button and inhale, almost no vapor comes out.

as with all mods, the battery needs to be fully charged to supply the demands of full watt usage. Also, a single battery mod will have difficulties supplying 55+ watts for any length of time... you might be able to get it, but eventually the battery will loose charge and again fail to supply hi end wattage supply..
