Why does my vape head taste like metal?

The metallic taste is almost certainly the coil and wick in the head. If it's metallic and harsh when you hit it, there's a hot spot on the coil where wire isn't sufficiently soaked in juice. Try firing the head without the tank or the knurled stem on your coil assembly, just screw your head onto the base and wiggle off the stem.

Went to a acrylic normal drip tip and boom no metallic taste and awesome flavor to vape again. The slight metallic taste also could be from the coil head. But if advise to switch the drip tip first if you have a Protank v2. I've tried thoroughly cleaning them including a dry burn to get off any gunk.

Why is there a metallic taste when I vape?

Why does my vape taste like cigarettes?

If you vape at a wattage that's too high for you coil head, your e-liquid will vaporise too quickly. When this happens, the wick can't re-saturate quickly enough, so the coil ends up burning the wick which causes that unpleasant burnt taste.

Why does my vape have a weird aftertaste?

A dry hit happens when you hit your e-cig and there's not enough vape juice soaking into the wick inside your coil so the material of the wick itself gets singed. It tastes something awful and dry hitting a coil too many times can actually make it so burnt that it permanently gives off that terrible taste.

How did you wick it? Did you also dry burn the coil after mounting but before wicking?

Asbestos4004 Vaping Master Verified Member ECF Veteran

how are the ohms reading? Maybe you have a short...assuming you burned it in. Pics?

Jdurand Ultra Member Verified Member ECF Veteran

I always get a "coil" taste right after a wick and dry burn. Only lasts for about 5 or 10 draws and then smooths out. I've just accepted it as normal.

I've had some metal drip tips that just make the whole vape taste like metal. I second checking for a short or hot spot.

Eskie ECF Guru Verified Member ECF Veteran

Could be machine oil on the wire. don't know where you got the wire from. Generally dry burning first would have gotten that off.

Jdurand Ultra Member Verified Member ECF Veteran

Not the wire, the wicking material, is it Ko-gen-do or something else?

I have been vaping ONLY ( no analogs ) for about 12 days now.. and today I noticed that the vapor is tasting much more like a metallic after taste than previously noticed???

umop apisdn Super Member ECF Veteran

It may be your taste buds adjusting, but still, a metallic taste sounds odd. Try a different juice, then a different atty. They might be the culprits.

designinme Senior Member ECF Veteran

Well... I blew out my atomizer by blowing through the battery end... I had some dark, thick liquid come out.. and then I hit it.. and the metallic taste has definitely reduced.

I just got a new atty in today..literally an hour ago..it was fine until I blew out the primer liquid and than got a horrible metallic taste..it has nothing to do with an old atty or dirty atty....it probably is more likely to do with it not having enough liquid on it..

The metallic taste can come from a hot leg, coil not heating evenly, arching/too close to other metal, too tight wicking.

Asbestos4004 Vaping Master Verified Member ECF Veteran

to parrot Elvis, you don't want to be using ni200 on a mech. It's for TC only. NiChrome gives you the opportunity to add wraps without sacrificing ramp up time. You might want to add a few.

Like I said, Using a regulated power device, preferably 2 or more cell for battery life.

Im running a Tobeco Mini Pro Tank with a Tesla Two - 100W 4000mah unregulated box mod and when I vape it tastes like electricity all in my mouth. I've searched and found where lips have been shocked but not the throat. It also shocks the tip of my tongue and just my whole mouth in general.

Rabbit Slayer Ultra Member ECF Veteran

The only thing I ca think of is some of the liquid might have gotten down in the base of the tank where the coil screws in, which is causing some sort of a short. Thoughts?

mcclintock Ultra Member ECF Veteran

Try a plastic drip tip or even put tape on it temporarily, if a shock that should stop it instantly. Your description sounds very subjective and odd.

If that is an unregulated mod as you stated I would have to agree with the above, too much power for that tank. Lists as a dual batt 4.2v and 40a up to 100w. Most standard tanks cannot handle that. What ohm coil is it running?

DaveSignal Ultra Member Verified Member ECF Veteran

I know what an electric shock feels like, although I have never experienced it while vaping. I've done it before when putting in some ceiling fans without switching off the mains power. And I've done it when pulling out a plug before from the wall socket. I doubt it felt like that or you would surely drop your mod.

mcclintock Ultra Member ECF Veteran

I didn't actually see unregulated. Problem is the battery would need to be run down a good bit for PT or PT2's. PT3's 1.5 ohm coil might be OK, but the 1.8's are hotter acting.

Just got a new atty from tw, added a couple drops of juice and now it tastes like burnt marshmallows. I have two questions,

MoparMike Full Member ECF Veteran

The bad taste can be from the primer that comes in the atty. If you don't already know, it is there to prevent damaging the heating coil when it is first used. Add a couple of drops of juice, then take light puffs to burn off the primer. Repeat this process until the flavor comes through as it normally does.

jaycetan Full Member

i get this taste also and im wondering why. i find that the bad taste can get stronger if the tip is pointed downward. what would be the cause of this?

TaketheRedPill Super Member Verified Member ECF Veteran

too deep a draw, too fast, too often. you need to build up a capillary action between the polyfil in the cart and the wick in the atomizer. Add a straw mod to help with that. Take shorter puffs, wait a few seconds or minutes after a puff or two before you puff again.

johnny bobcat Senior Member ECF Veteran

i think i must have just been tasting the primer, now that the atty's broken in i dont get the taste anymore. on a side note the taste definitely does not result from carts, because i do not use carts, i only drip. ANyone else who gets this taste i would advise to just grin and bear it for a couple of days and it should go away

How long do drop in coils last?

Drop in coils are not really reusable. They last about a week or so. When they start to taste bad, put in a fresh one. The gray color isnt necessarily scorched cotton. The wick discolors with use

Can you chain vape with one tank?

If you are chain vaping on just one tank that happens often. You just need a couple more tanks to switch out with throughout the day. You can pick up some Innokin Prism tanks pretty cheap.

bombastinator ECF Guru Verified Member ECF Veteran

The first few vapes will have a cotton taste, but it goes away. If it bothers you a lot you can try rayon.

Don29palms Moved On ECF Veteran

Something that will hel a little bit is put a drop or two of juice on the wick right before you pull it into the coil. It does take a bit for the cotton to get completely saturated and broke in.

stols001 Moved On ECF Veteran

Cotton (and rayon) have a break in period and the method of saturating your coil and wick and firing it on your ohm's reader will certainly help I do that with my rayon which (I personally) think has a shorter break in period.

Vik171 Full Member

I had the same when I was using some free cotton that came with my coilmaster kit. I switched to Kendo Vape Cotton - Gold Edition and through some experience now I kind of know how much cotton to use. I don't taste anything now and it tastes great from first vape.

DaveP PV Master & Musician ECF Veteran

The initial cotton taste was one of the reasons I switched when I tried Rayon. You get a little flat flavor from rayon for the first few hits and it's gone. Then, the vape is fine.

I also use cotton as my wicks. Just read a lot about rayon, really love it but I do not have any chance to use it (I can not find any dealers in my country have it in their store, they just have Muji).
