If you vape at a wattage that's too high for you coil head, your e-liquid will vaporise too quickly. When this happens, the wick can't re-saturate quickly enough, so the coil ends up burning the wick which causes that unpleasant burnt taste.

Full Answer

Why does my vape smell burnt?

Without liquid to vaporize, the coils start burning the wick, and the user essentially inhales burnt cotton. Here are some of the most common reasons behind burnt hits and some advice to help you avoid them. Vaping at wattages that exceed the coil limits will vaporize e-liquid too fast.

What happens if you get a burnt hit on your vape?

If you get a burnt hit, it will be evident from the coughing, spluttering and nasty taste left in your mouth. However, all coils will eventually deteriorate to the point where the cotton is burnt. At this point, it is time to throw it out and put a new one in your device.

Why does marijuana burn your throat when vaping?

Burning or vaporing marijuana burns your throat because the smoke is too hot. There’s many ways you can cool down the smoke that’s going into your lungs. If you’re vaporizing it make sure it’s not on a really high voltage level.

How do I know if my vape coil is burnt?

If you managed to catch it early, you can still give it a go and see if the burnt taste disappears after a couple of puffs. Unfortunately, chances are you’ve already burnt some of the cotton inside the coil, and it will need to be replaced. That taste will not leave if it’s truly burnt!

What to do if you vape with an empty tank?

The solution: If you’ve been vaping with an empty tank, you need to prime your coils and refill, keeping your tank topped up in future and never letting those wicking ports get exposed. You may have to deep clean or replace your coil head/wicking if you’re still experiencing a burnt taste. 5.

What happens when you overheat a tank?

What happens when you overheat your tank by chain vaping is that your e-liquid overheats, making it thinner and making it vaporise too fast for your coils to saturate by the time you take another hit…resulting in delicious charcoal inhale with an undertone of singed newspaper and a fragrant burning jersey nose.

Is vaping safer than smoking?

As a brave beginner who has recently quit the bad habit of smoking, you may feel a little overwhelmed by the fact that that a vape device, while 95% safer than cancer sticks, actually requires quite a bit of know how to operate, especially if you’re running a mod and sub-ohm tank set up or something more complex than an all-in-one.

Why does my wick burn?

The most common cause of burnt hits is simply not having sufficient juice in your tank (or on the wick, if using a dripper) to keep your coil soaked. The tank need not be entirely empty for this to occur.

What is the difference between VG and PG in vaping?

They each have different qualities and uses, and different vapers prefer different ratios of VG to PG in their juice. PG is better at transporting flavors than VG, but provides smaller clouds, and a harsher throat hit. Sub-ohm users typically prefer higher VG juices.

Does VG kill coils?

Some e-liquids will kill your coils a lot faster than others. VG is well known for leaving more of a residue than PG. People vaping juice with a high VG content will burn through their coils faster than others.

What does it mean when your vape coil is burning?

Like clockwork, one leads to the other. Any seasoned vaper will have no doubt experienced the dreaded burning taste when vaping, more commonly known as a ‘dry hit' or ‘dry burning’. This happens when your coil has burnt out and to prevent this from happening, you need to understand the scenarios that can lead to a coil burning out quickly.

Why does my vape tank burn out?

Without saturating your wick, typically made from natural organic cotton material in e-liquid, your coil will overheat and potentially burn out. Another dilemma is having too much cotton wrapped around the coil. This means you will have to top up your vape tank more frequently to ensure all of the wick is saturated all the time. A greater surface means more time waiting in between vapes to allow optimum prime levels.

How does a chain vape work?

Every time you vape, the heat from the coil is transferred into the e-liquid and soaked onto the wick, turning it into vapour. The longer you chain vape, the less time the e-liquid in your tank has to soak into the wick again.

How to keep vape coils in good order?

With a pair of tweezers, pinch it lightly to spread heat across the component evenly. In turn, it will heat more of the coil and not overheat certain areas leading to ‘hotspots’, which can cause that burnt taste.

What happens if you run your e-liquid too low?

Running Your E-Liquid Too Low. If you’re not keeping your tank topped up, the wick may not be able to draw enough e-liquid from it to soak. Initially, each vape will have less vapour production and begin to lose its flavour. That’s a telling sign that it needs to top up or you’ll receive ‘dry hits’.

What happens if you use a higher coil?

This ensures that you get the best vaping experience. If you power your device higher than your coil allows, and the device doesn’t prevent it from being used in this way, you’ll be vaping more e-liquid than the wick can soak up.

Can you vape for a few minutes?

Before burning out, you could also find that it impacts the quality of the vapour production you’re getting. You can comfortably vape for a few minutes and shouldn’t suffer a dry hit, but once you’re done, leave your device for a short while and give your wick time to re-soak. As they say, patience is a virtue.

Why does vaping cause my throat to burn?

There are a few reasons why you might have the throat on fire feeling after taking a drag. These include:

Open your airflow

Air flow helps you to enhance and adjust the flavour of your e-juice. However, if the draw is too tight or in fact closed completely you will get a burn sensation in your throat from vaping. In this video review of the X30 Rover, Matt demonstrates exactly what that is like (skip ahead to 5 minutes 32 seconds).

Prime your coil

When you install a new coil you must make sure that the cotton is fully saturated before you take a puff. I know you want to get vaping right away but take a dry hit and 1, it will taste gross and 2, it will burn out your coil before you’ve even used it. Once you have installed the coil, top the tank up with juice and leave it to sit for a while.

Check your e-liquid

If you use a basic device then chances are it is recommended that you use a higher PG liquid. PG is harsher on the throat. If you really find that the vape burns your throat with a PG liquid then try a higher VG juice. We have a great range of high VG liquids that we deliver the very same day.

Reduce your nicotine level

Nicotine can feel a little scratchy on the throat. If it is causing too much discomfort then why not try reducing your nicotine level.

Allergies

If none of the above seems to give you any relief and still leave your throat burning then it might be down to an allergy. Stop vaping until you get to the bottom of the issue.

Is a 3 ohm coil hot?

A .3 ohm coil is a little bit hot. I can tell a big difference between a .5 and a .3 coil. Might want to try a coil with a little more resistance.

Can you vape if you don't need nicotine?

If you don't need nicotine and vaping irritates your throat, just don't vape. If you are determined to vape, try a lower wattage. Try a different device. Try a rebuildable atty using stainless steel wire. Etc.

Can you burn out coils with long puffs?

Carambrda said: If you take slow long puffs you can actually burn out the coil in a matter of only hours so if this is what you have been doing, try taking fast short puffs instead, and, like others have stated, wait long enough between puffs.
