This is probly a stupid answer but: don't put the ring on the glass, put it on the other part and then put the glass down on it. And use a little juice for your "glue" it may make the ring stick... Best I've got, hope it helps.

Well I'm glad BOTH your problems are "fixed." LOL. I've done stuff like that. Yes, there are many 0 rings in tanks that can shift around and even become deformed, your tank should've (probably) come with spare O-rings and sometimes more than one set.
