How does a VW mod work?
A VV/VW Mod at it's simplest is a battery powered vaping device that uses circuitry to regulate its output power and allows adjustment of it's output power in two ways: 1. By adjusting the voltage. 2. By adjusting the wattage. Additionally these devices employ protection circuitry to provide a wide variety of safety features to protect the user and/or prevent damage to the device itself. The safety features of VV/VW Mods make them a fantastic device for new and veteran vapers alike. Today, there is a massive selection of these types of these devices. Their maximum output power and other features are just as varied. With so many choices in devices it's good to know they are all quite similar internally. These devices are controlled by a micro processor which is what allows for and controls the variable settings, safety features, and secondary features like displaying battery life, atomizer resistance, etc. The only significant internal differences are the microprocessor itself, whether it uses replaceable or internal batteries, and if those batteries are in a parallel or a series circuit. Battery placement determines if the microprocessor has to boost the voltage to achieve the desired setting in a parallel circuit or reduce the power to achieve the desired setting in a series circuit.
What is a VW mod?
A VV/VW mod has the ability to customize the output which can be helpful in a variety of ways, it allows the flexibility to quickly change and use a wide variety of atomizers with different resistance, coil types and wire sizes. The ability to adjust the output power also allows users to control the amount of heat generated by their coils which can change the flavor of or burn certain e-juices and help adjust if the user wants to take shorter or longer pulls to create the same amount of vapor. With these devices a few button clicks is all it takes to readjust and you are ready to go
What is temperature control?

What determines if the microprocessor has to boost the voltage to achieve the desired setting in a parallel circuit
Battery placement determines if the microprocessor has to boost the voltage to achieve the desired setting in a parallel circuit or reduce the power to achieve the desired setting in a series circuit.
Can a VW mod read ohms?
The ability to read resistance on a VV/VW mod is no substitute for an ohms reader. While they ultimately do the same thing the mod puts a higher voltage current through the atomizer than an ohms reader which in the case of a short will trigger protection circuitry and put unnecessary strain on the device.
What are the two groups of vaping devices?
All vaping devices are generally divided in two groups: regulated and nonregulated. The later better known as “mechs”. What many people don’t know is that smack in the middle, in the cross section where those two groups meet, a third, quite interesting subgroup exists. Yes, we’re talking about Variable Voltage devices, or “VV mods” for short.
How to use a VV mod?
They are regulated mods but, like mechs, you theoretically only use one button to use them: press it to vape. Practically, though, since they are adjustable, you have to do the whole “adjusting” in some way. To keep it (arguably) simpler than regulated mods, most VV devices implement some type of rotating dial. Left for less power. Right for more power. Press fire to vape.
Why do mechs explode?
A tiny weeny minuscule problem with mechs is carelessness, of user error: if you don’t take proper care of everything, your battery may short. And that’s when, in the worst case scenarios, a device can explode. The explosions you may have heard about? Usually badly-maintained mechs, with dangerous builds (that push the batteries too much), in inexperienced user hands. That’s why most of the vaping world has moved to regulated devices.
What is variable wattage?
A variable wattage device offers easier selection of a specific power level you like vaping at and doesn’t force you to carry a screwdriver, search for coils or break a nail trying to adjust it. And if (properly) supporting Temperature Control, it can also constantly offer exactly the vaping experience you’ve tuned in.
What is the M VV?
One of the most feature-complete VV mods available, the M VV by Dovpo manages to be even simpler to use than the Invader, HexOhm and Charon. Using a series of LEDs instead of just one, the M VV can instantly show the charge level of the two 18650 cells in it, as well as the state of the mod.
What is a mech mod?
Mech mods are simple devices: an enclosure for one or more batteries, a button that connects the batteries to a connector and that’s it.
How do regulated mods work?
The simple way to understand how regulated mods work is by imagining a chip getting between the batteries, the buttons of the device and the atomizer. When the button is pressed, the batteries don’t connect directly to the atomizer.
How do VV/VW mods work?
They are vaping devices that have internal circuits, regulating power output through controlling voltage or wattage. So, to calculate Ohm’s law for VV/VW mods, you have to modify the above equation of power:
What is the unit of measure for voltage?
V – the voltage across the conductor, I – the current flowing through it, and R – the resistance measured in ohms (Ω). The unit of measure for voltage is Volt (V), and for current is Ampere or amps (A). vc_column_text] [/vc_column] [/vc_row] [vc_row] [vc_column] [vc_single_image image=”179191″ img_size=”750×481″ alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_shadow_3d”] [/vc_column] [/vc_row] [vc_row] [vc_column] [vc_column_text]
How does Ohm's law work?
To sum up, Ohm’s law states that by adjusting the resistance of coil and battery voltage, you can revamp your vape device’s current and power. Understanding Ohm’s law can give you small freedom on how you want to modify your vaping experience. The law also will help you know the limitations of your device, keeping you safe. Maybe now you can also make your mod according to your likings.
What is Ohm's law?
Ohm’s law states that a conductor accommodates the current flow (or your vaping device in this case), which is directly proportional to a potential difference (voltage of your battery) and inversely proportional to the resistance (of your vaping coil) across the conductor (vape device). The law was named after the German physicist Georg Ohm, who addressed the key components at work in a circuit in 1827.
What happens when you use a higher resistance coil?
On the other side, battery and e-juice will deplete quickly. Battery and coil life will also reduce. And, when you use a higher resistance coil, less electricity will flow through it. The results you can imagine are the exact opposite of the above.
Do mechanical mods come with safety?
Mechanical mods don’t come with regular safety and protections built-in, unlike regulated devices. So, knowing Ohm’s law becomes crucial in such instances. As a result, they won’t read the resistance of your coil, so you have to test it on an ohm reader. Once you know your coil’s resistance, you can figure out the rest of the math using Ohm’s triangle or formulas.
Can you use Ohm's law to determine the third quantity?
Ohm’s law can be used easily to determine the third quantity if we have the other two. For now, we know the main three components and their relationship with each other. You can use the triangle and formulas to help you build coils for your best sub-ohm tank or mods according to your desire.
What is the circuit board on a vape battery?
Batteries have a small circuit board, usually on the bottom of the vape battery, that stops the charging or discharge of the battery in certain circumstances, such as Over-Charge, Over-Discharge and Short-Circuit. These tend to be slightly longer because of the circuitry and are normally classed as ICR.
How many volts does a vape battery have?
They provide nominally 3.7 volts of power, 4.2 volts when fully charged and slowly discharge when used. Once the vape battery is discharged below approx 3 volts, they must be charged again.
What is the difference between a mechanical and regulated mod?
A mechanical mod takes power DIRECTLY from the vape battery, which means it’s important to know that the battery is capable of providing the current required to fire the coil.
How big is an 18650 battery?
Protected circuits will add between 2mm and 3mm to the length of the battery. Therefore an unprotected 18650 battery measures 18mm across its width and 65mm in length.
How many charges does a vape battery need?
Approximate number of recharges a vape battery can undergo before it’ll no longer hold a charge. Duty cycles can be as high as 500 charges but will vary depending on the specific battery type.
What are the parts of a vape battery?
Most external vape batteries are Lithium Iron (li-ion) and consist of three parts: the cathode (+), the anode (-), and the electrolyte (bit in the middle).
How to calculate ohms in battery?
Understanding Ohms Law is a vital part of battery safety. Take the discharge rate (the amps), divide it by your voltage level by coil resistance (ohms) and never exceed this rating. For more information, please see our Ohms Law guide or our Ohms Law Calculator.
