For more info, watch Rip Trippers tutorial on how to build a parallel coil by hand. For even better results you can use a coil jig: just wrap the first coil using the jig’s guide, and manually wrap the second coil in between the gaps. Wrapping vape coils can appear to be much more difficult than it really is.

What size coil do I need for my vape?

With a 1.2 ohm coil you’ll probably be looking at around 15W – 25W for a satisfying vape but it really depends on personal preference. If you’d like any tips on building your coils then check out our guide on coil building.

How many wraps do I need for my coils?

Ideally you want around 6 wraps per coil to be able to fit in between the deck posts. The 19/18 rounded half wraps that shows on our calculator means you’d need to wrap both your coils this amount of times. 2) Rounded half wraps means the coil legs point in the same direction. Full wraps means the coil legs are pointing in the opposite direction.

What size Kanthal should I use for vape coils?

We recommend using some basic 26-gauge Kanthal for your first few vape coil builds. It will fit fine in most atomizers and it’s very easy to work with. It is worth noting that most atomizers nowadays can easily fit 3 mm coils and, as a result, you will rarely see people referring to coils as micro/macro.

What is the best wire for vaping?

Stainless steel wire is the most versatile among vaping wires. This is the only vape wire that can work both wattage and TC modes, making this wire is ideal for those who are still choosing between TC and wattage mode.

Is titanium bad for vaping?

The use of titanium is a frequently debated topic in the vaping world. Titanium releases titanium dioxide when heated over 1130F, which is toxic to humans. Titanium has a stable TCR though. This means that if you have a functioning TC mod, you need not to worry about titanium dioxide poisoning.

How many strands of wire are needed for a coil?

This will enable you to select either a single strand of wire, or up to four strands running parallel/twisted. The most commonly used is a single strand, however, using more than one strand will reduce the overall resistance or increase the surface area of the coil.

Is each wire type different?

Each wire type has slightly different properties, therefore it’s important that you select the correct type of wire that you’re using, otherwise the overall resistance or wraps shown in the results section won’t be correct.

How to build a coil for a RDA?

First, examine the deck and see if it is a dual or a single-coil atomizer. Then check the size of the deck and see how large your build can be—you don’t want your coils to touch the top cap as this will cause a sort.

How are micro and macro coils created?

Micro and macro coils are created by taking a single piece of wire and wrapping it around a screwdriver, drill bit, or coil jig. The difference between a micro and a macro coil is the inner diameter of the coil. It’s that simple.

What is macro coil?

Macro: a macro coil build is a coil that has an inner diameter that’s 2.5 mm and above. The bigger the inner diameter of the vape coil, the higher its resistance, and vice versa. Likewise, the thicker the gauge of wire used, the lower the resistance will be.

Why do you need to have two coils?

When doing a dual coil build, it’s essential for both coils to be identical in size and form, to ensure that they heat up properly. Dual-coil builds obviously create more vapor than a single coil of the same specs, but require double the power to perform.

What do you use to pinch coils?

Wire: any of the vaping wires would do. Flush cutters: wire cutters that can cut close in small spaces. Ceramic tweezers: to pinch your coils while pulsing. Fine tip tweezers: to fluff your cotton and place it inside the wick ports. Small metal rod: a small screwdriver, or coiling tool.

How to save money on vaping?

One of the best ways to save money in vaping is to build your own coils. Rather than buying disposable coil heads every week, you can make your own. It’s a fun hobby that vapers not only take pride in, but get to enjoy the fruits of their labor. The way to get good at it is through practice. Although, it’s perfectly reasonable for first-time ...

What is a parallel coil?

In essence, a parallel coil is made out of two or more wires wrapped next to each other. Resistance is divided by the number of wire strands, so make sure you are aware of your device’s limits when building parallel coils. For beginners, a dual parallel 26-gauge Kanthal coil would be a nice starting point.

Needed Materials

On the contrary, with the right tools, making them yourself is rather simple. Of course, you'll need the materials. However, once you've got those, the knowledge is readily accessible.

Needed Materials

Above all, wires are the most important part of this process. You'll be working with them throughout. In some instances, thicker wires produce more desirable results. However, on other occasions, the opposite will be true.

Macro vs. Micro Coils

Depending on the vape, coils vary in size. For coils under 2mm in diameter, we use the term micro. Anything larger than that would be a macro coil. Either way, understanding the terminology is a vital advantage.

Single vs. Multiple

With certain vapes, installing more than one coil is possible. Check out the instructions that were included with yours. That way, if you need to build multiple, you'll know ahead of time.

Basic Instructions to Build Your Coil

So, each vape will be built a bit differently. However, in most circumstances, the following steps should suffice. Unless you have a specialty vape, the specifics don't change much between products.

SMOK Nord Replacement Coils

Perhaps, your tastebuds love the flavor of salt-based nicotine. If that is the case, you would need something suitable. So, with that in mind, look at these options. Suppose you want a higher resistance coil. If so, then they've got you covered. On the other hand, for those who prefer lower resistance, they got something for you as well.

SMOK Baby V8 Mesh Replacement Coils 5 Pack - SMOK

Delivering between 40 and 80 volts, these coils are a beast in the machine. So, when you want something more than powerful enough for the job, grab a pack of these. Put them in your vape. Then, you'll appreciate all that power, packed away.

I know this might be silly... We are curious about why the hell certain things work the way they do on a very small level. We don't necessarily need an answer involving individual electron behavior but... The smaller and more specific the better. Here it goes:

Welcome tljnfo I'm no Einstein or Stephen Hawking, but from an observational perspective, I'm going to suppose that a nano coil (in my definition < 2mm diameter) typically might be compressed, so there's less airflow around the individual wraps of a coil.

93gc40 Vaping Master ECF Veteran

More wraps vs less at same OHM?? Difference is Heat concentration and wicking.

IMFire3605 Ultra Member ECF Veteran

A nano-coil will be compact and tiny taking more wraps (we'll say 1.5mm or less in diameter) (inches of wire we are talking about, resistance increases more wire is present) and have more surface contact to the wick and liquid due to the length of the final wrapped coil, such a compact heating element, inner wraps will be hotter than the out wraps, and heat will transfer, in essence making a heating tunnel, down side, a lot of times these nano- coils will dry out or get choked for juice wicking very quickly..

The differance between nano/micro coils and spaced coils or coils with a larger diamiter is their efficiency in producing heat.

Fairly new at rebuilding my own coils. Just got a Infinite Magma this week and have had some success with building single coils for it (I haven't tried building a sub-ohm coil just yet).

I think part of the equation that matters to me when deciding how or what to build is not addressed in your post. Airflow, where its coming from and how much. With your magma, do you like a tight draw or open? Wicking material can also play a part in the decision process, i.e.

I have found that longer coils will produce better flavour as there is more wick touching the coils and therefore been vaped! Usually i build duel coils at 0.6 ohms with 26 awg Nichrome with a 2mm diameter is aprox 8 wraps with japanese cotton great flavour, over loads of vape IMO.
