Can vaping put metal in your lungs?
Doctors have discovered yet another way that vaping — and vaping THC, in particular — can damage the lungs: when the metal coils of electronic cigarettes heat up to turn e-liquids into aerosols, toxic metals can leach into the liquid, leading to a rare condition usually only seen in industrial metal workers.
What toxic metals are in Vapes?
E-cigarettes have gained popularity in recent years, largely due to their reputation as a safe alternative to conventional cigarettes. But these devices can expose users to toxic metals such as arsenic, chromium, nickel, and lead, noted Ana María Rule, Ph.
Can Vapes be detected by metal detectors?
The answer is: No, not all vape pens will be detected by a metal detector. The reason for this is because some vape pens are made from plastic, but most are made from metal. As a result, if a person has a plastic vape pen that they want to use, they can do so without being detected by the detector.

Organic CottonThe VOOPOO PnP Replacement Coils are compatible with the VOOPOO Vinci Replacement Pods and the VOOPOO Vinci Mod Pod. These coils use a plug 'n play installation method and are made with 100% Organic Cotton for optimal e-Liquid saturation.
What are quartz coils?
Quartz Rod Coils These consist of a metal wire wrapped around a small quartz rod. The metal is usually titanium and a vape pen can have one or more quartz rod coils though dual quartz rod coils are the most common. The more coils a vaporizer has, the more intense the heat that it produces and the faster it heats up.
What's the difference between mesh and ceramic coils?
Mesh coils are generally better at producing more vapour and giving better flavour payoff. Traditional coils are often the kind of coil you'll find in super tiny pod mods. They're well suited to these kinds of kits because they adapt to being built smaller than mesh coils.
How does vaping work?
Unlike traditional smoking, vaping works by heating liquids that contain nicotine.
What is in e-liquid?
The team found that e-liquid exposed to heating coils produced a vapor containing significant amounts of chromium, lead, manganese, nickel and zinc. Highly toxic arsenic was also found in both the e-liquid and the heated vapor among a subset of 10 vapers, though how that metal got into the unheated e-liquid remains unclear.
How many vapers were recruited to the Hopkins study?
In the Hopkins study, published Feb. 21 in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives, investigators recruited 56 vapers in the Baltimore area to see whether the heating process introduces toxins into what is inhaled. The researchers used the vapers' own e-cigarette devices when examining the chemical content of e-liquid, vapor and residue.
Is vaping a safe alternative to smoking?
Toxic Metals Found in E-Cigarette Vapor. MONDAY, Feb. 26, 2018 (HealthDay News) -- If you think that "vaping" is a safe alternative to smoking, new research suggests you might be inadvertently inhaling unsafe levels of toxic metals. Scientists say the tiny metal coils that heat the liquid nitrogen in e-cigarettes may contaminate ...
Can e-cigarettes contain lead?
Scientists say the tiny metal coils that heat the liquid nitrogen in e-cigarettes may contaminate the resulting vapor with lead, chromium, manganese and nickel. The finding raises the possibility that e-cigarettes are not harmless to users.

Guide To Vaping is the largest online magazine blog that is dedicated to providing a vast selection of helpful and informative articles about the latest vaping news, vapor products, and CBD.
Does titanium coil work with Kanthal?
Titanium will ramp up fast and cool down just as quickly which is why many vapers fell in love with it for temperature control. The flavor produced by titanium coils is outstanding and it is almost as easy to work with as Kanthal. As with Ni200 wire, many manufacturers are now turning to Titanium as one of their choices for pre-built temperature control coil systems, especially for those who are thought to have an aversion to those coils.
What is included in a vape mod?
Every vape mod includes the same basic parts, the battery, mod, tank, e-liquid, and coils.
What wire should I use for vaping?
Power mode is the basic mode on a vaping mod and the easiest to use. If this is your preference, then you can go with a vape coil wire that's only safe for use in power mode. Your vape wire will be stainless steel, kanthal, or nichrome.
What does higher resistance mean on a vape?
Resistance depends on the vape wire's gauge and diameter. The number of wraps in the coil matters as well. The higher the gauge, the thinner the wire. A higher gauge means higher resistance. Coils with higher resistance require less power to heat.
What is an atomizer head?
The common term for an atomizer head is a vape coil. The coil is actually a component found inside the atomizer. The atomizer head contains a coil made of thin wire along with wicking material. The vape coil heats up to a specific temperature, which creates the vapor.
What is a premade coil?
Premade coils come in different forms. Simple round-wire coils are one strand of wire that wraps around a coiling rod to create the coil. The other type of pre-built coils is exotic coils. These use several strands of wire and have different looks and shapes.

These are the diameter (or gauge) of the wire, its resistance, and the ramp time of different materials.
Can you vape with nichrome coils?
Again, take note that if you have (or suspect you may have) a nickel allergy, then you should not vape on nichrome coils, and maybe you should also avoid stainless steel. Kanthal has been the choice of most vapers for a longer time, due to its ease of use and higher resistance.
Is stainless steel wire TC compatible?
Stainless steel is a clear winner between TC-compatible wires. It’s easy to source, easy to use, and even works in power mode if needed. On top of that , its nickel content is relatively low. While people with nickel allergies should avoid it, it is less likely to cause adverse reactions to people with moderate nickel sensitivity —but you should always play it safe.
Is titanium wire safe for vaping?
The last wire we will look at is titanium, which is another TC-only wire. There is some controversy surrounding the safety of titanium wire when used for vaping. Heating it can release a toxic component (titanium dioxide) above 1200 ℉ (648 ℃).
What does the study say?
The study was conducted at Johns Hopkins University in the United States and measured the vaping devices of 56 everyday vapers.
Health risks
A lot of the discussion around the study concerns itself with the level of harm that these toxic metals pose to humans. A press release issued with the study claimed that such levels “approached or exceeded safe limits,” a claim that subsequent reporting seemed eager to pick up on.
Where the news falls short
The trouble starts when we apply standard limits for ambient air to e-cigarette vapour. Because anyone who’s ever vaped, seen someone vaping, or heard of vaping, knows that vape users don’t breathe eliquid vapour exclusively (hopefully).
A few grains of salt
Remember the PHE study from earlier this year? Where they suggested putting vaping on the NHS? That study claimed that vaping was 95% less dangerous than smoking traditional tobacco.
Looking forward
With further study and as vaping grows in popularity, we can chip away at that 5%. Toxic metals in e-cigarette vapour, at any concentration, aren’t ideal; and with the release of this study it’s likely that we’ll see more innovation going into ceramic coils and safer alloys. So the vaping industry is moving forward thanks to studies like this.
