What does ohms mean on a vape?
Dec 09, 2021 · It’s because coils with Low Electrical Resistance (or Lower ohm numbers) create more heat and a warmer vapor. Those with High Resistance (or Higher ohm numbers) produce a cooler vapor. How Does OHM Resistance Affect Your Vape? The ohm rating contributes to your throat hit as well as the amount of vapor your ecig produces.
What coil should I use for my vape?
Jan 20, 2020 · High resistance coil An atomizer head with a resistance above 1.0 ohm. Generally used at a lower power and are more suited for “regular” vapour production. Smaller clouds of vapour Uses less e-liquid Suited to most e-cigs Low resistance coil An atomizer head with a resistance less than 1.0 ohm. Commonly referred to as “sub-ohm”.
How to tell if your vape coil is bad?
Higher Ohm Coils Using a replacement coil with a standard or higher ohm will likely: • Result in slower battery drainage • Use less e liquid as compared to a lower ohm level • Provides the user with a cooler vapour • Produce less vapour due to there being less heat at the source (the coils).

Is higher ohm coil better?
The difference between the two is the resistance and the method of vaping you use - standard coils have a higher resistance meaning less charge and juice pass through them, Sub Ohm coils have a lower resistance, less than 1.0ohms, meaning more current can go through.
Is it better to have higher ohms or lower vape?
Lower resistance coils produce more flavour, vapour and heat at a lower voltage than higher ohm coils because they use more watts. For example, if you have a 1.8ohm coil running on 3.7 volts you'll get an output of around 7.3 watts.
What does more ohms do in a vape?
Ohms are units of resistance. The lower the resistance of your atomizer, the larger the amount of current flowing through it. If you increase resistance, the atomizer receives less current.
What is the best coil resistance for vaping?
2.4-2.8 ohmsVape coils generally have an ohm range of 2.4-2.8 ohms, with lots of people enjoying a resistance of 2.5ohms. Low ohm vape coils produce more vapour and flavour and case use more e-liquid and take more battery power than high ohms. High ohm e-cig coils produce less vapour and use less e-liquid and battery.Apr 3, 2017
What wattage should I vape at 0.17 ohm?
40-80 wattsEach coil is an RGC Conical Mesh coil and has a resistance of 0.17ohms. The best recommended wattage of 40-80 watts. These coils are available as single coils or in packs of 5 x spare coils.
What ohm coil has best flavor?
The best ones to go for flavour wise are clapton, titanium (if you prefer vaping with TC mode) or an Alien coil. The sweet spot for getting a balance of vapour and flavour is around 0.3ohms.
What wattage should I vape at 0.2 ohm?
0.3 ohms - 40 watts to 90 watts. 0.2 ohm coils - 40 watts to 100 watts.Sep 7, 2018
What wattage should I vape at 1.2 ohm?
between 8-17WFor example; 1.2 ohm, 1.6 ohm, 1.8 ohm etc etc. Most MTL coils at this kind of resistance would not require a lot of power (wattage) to fire up. On average, most will work between 8-17W. If you check the side of your coil, it should tell you the resistance, and the recommended wattage range in small writing.
What is the best wattage for a 0.16 ohm coil?
40 wattsThe 0.16ohm Mesh coils have a recommended wattage range of 25-50 watts, with the best wattage at 40 watts. This means these coils are designed for sub ohm / direct to lung (DTL) vaping. They produce bigger clouds and offer boosted flavours.
Does higher ohms mean more resistance?
OHM stands for resistance. The more resistance it has, the higher its rating. The less resistance you have, the less power you'll get from the battery to your tank.
What wattage should I vape at 0.4 ohm?
23 - 28 wattFor example, a 0.4-ohm mod may recommend a 23 - 28 watt setting, and a 0.8-ohm mod may recommend you use up to 35 watts. Some recommendations can go much higher (e.g., 200 watts). Sub-ohm devices work best when using a high VG vape liquid (e.g., a VG/PG ratio of 70/30).Nov 27, 2020
What wattage should I vape at 1.5 ohm?
For instance if you use a 1.5 ohm coil then you can get away with anywhere between 8-16 watts, but a . 5 ohm coil needs between 15-30 watts to give you the right amount of power.Oct 25, 2016
What is the ohm of a coil?
The ohm (represented by the Ω symbol) is a measure of resistance that determines the amount of heat your coil generates. Coils resistances very from vape to vape. Vape devices will also have some internal resistance. This must be added to the coil ohm resistance to get your total resistance.
How many watts does a sub ohm vape use?
Sub ohm vape pens are less than 1 ohm: hence the term "Sub-ohm". Sub-ohm vapes use a ton of power: typically 40 watts and up, sometimes exceeding 200W! On most units you can also crank down the voltage and get standard ohm hits.
Can you use sub ohm coils?
Improper coil matching can damage your power supply. "Sub-ohm vapes" are not considered Sub-ohm unless they carry high wattage/power as well, some low powered devices carry Sub-ohm coils but are considered standard - they barely produce smoke.
What is sub ohm resistance?
SubOhm resistance is also available for most modern vaporizers. People who love fuller flavor, a nice throat hit and bigger vapor clouds go for the lower ohm resistance, but experimentation is the key since your vaping device depends on other factors too. Main Features of a Coil with Lower OHMS.
How long does a 1.8 ohm battery last?
Battery lasts for 1.5 to 2 tanks. Coils of 2.5 ohm produce smooth flavour, pretty close to the real cigarette. But only for about 1 to 1.5 days.
What is temperature control in vaping?
Temperature control is now popular with advanced vapers who want to get the most out of sub-ohm vaping. In a nutshell, rather than setting the power (watts) of your vaporizer, you set a target temperature. The device automatically adjusts the power when you hit that limit so you don't burn your coils, your throat, or reach a heat level that produces the dreaded “ formaldehyde hemiacetals “. In other words, you'll avoid those “dry hits” and you'll get better, safer performance.
How many ohms does a vape coil have?
Because there are two coils, the total 1.5 ohm resistance will vape like a 2.0 – 2.5 ohm single coil atomizer. According to the chart you should keep your wattage below 8.46 not only for flavor but for safety! If you want to use a high watt battery and vape at over 8 watts you need a sub ohm atomizer.
How often should I change my atomizer?
I also recommend changing your atomizer regularly, (at least every 3-4 weeks with average to heavy vaping), even before you experience a burnt taste.
How does a vaporizer work?
In a nutshell, rather than setting the power (watts) of your vaporizer, you set a target temperature. The device automatically adjusts the power when you hit that limit so you don't burn your coils, your throat , or reach a heat level that produces the dreaded “formaldehyde hemiacetals“.
Who is Hillary Miles?
Hillary Miles, Cloud Nine’s editor and contributing author has been an advocate of the vaping industry since 2009. After a long career writing and producing for national television networks, she now focuses on helping smokers and former smokers better understand the many benefits of vaping, tobacco harm reduction, health and well being.
What is coil in vape?
The coil is a component inside the atomizer. But as we know, the world of vape lingo is vast and when you say coils, we know what you mean. If your vape mod is the body, atomizer heads are the heart, a fundamental part of your vaping experience.
How does an atomizer head work?
An atomizer head converts energy from the e-cig battery and heats the coil inside, this then vaporises e-liquid that is soaked into the wicking material, which is then inhaled by you.
What happens when you press a button?
When you press your button, it provides power to the coil. This then converts that energy to heat (If you could see your coils, they sometimes glow red when you are pressing your button), and vapourises e-liquid from the saturated wicking material.
What is the resistance of an atomizer?
Well atomizer heads have an electrical resistance value measured in ohms (Ω). Depending on the amount of electrical resistance will depend on what ‘ohm’ your atomizer head is. Atomizer heads generally fall into two categories. High and low resistance.
Who came up with the formula for measuring electrical resistance?
Back in the 1800’s a German physicist ‘Georg Simon Ohm’ published his works regarding the physics of electricity. After lots of sciency things, he came up with a formula to calculate the measurement of electrical resistance.
What are atomizer coils made of?
Most atomizer coils are made from Nichrome or Kanthal. But there are different wire types that some vapers use. Nickel, Titanium and Stainless Steel are also available, but less popular. These tend to be used for temperature control vaping and aren’t suited to all e-cigs. But that is for another time.
Why do vape coils have more nicotine?
When a vape coil is run at a higher wattage, it’s able to create more vapour, thus giving you more nicotine per puff. This also means that the throat hit from your nicotine and PG is increased as well.
Can coils burn out faster?
Similarly, running your coils at the higher ends of their recommended wattage ranges can shorten their overall lifespan and you might find them burning out more quickly than when you run them at lower wattages.
Why do coils get hot?
As higher wattages cause coils to get warmer, it’s beneficial to have your airflow ring more open , as this extra air will help stop the coil from getting too hot and burning. If you like to have the airflow ring quite closed, to give you that tighter draw, then make sure to keep your wattage a little lower.
Does running a coil at a higher wattage decrease battery life?
As you might have already guessed, running a coil at a higher wattage will also decrease your vape battery life as your vape mod needs to pull extra power from the battery to supply those high watts to the coil.

Usually a lower ohm coil will have a thicker wire, or just less wraps.

If I understand it right, the higher ohm wire could have more problems and may last "shorter" because it is thinner, hence it has more resistance. It is more susceptible and sensitive to poping (hot spotting), defects and rough handling.

If you're able to, dry burning brings it back to life for a little while.
