What type of wire is used for vaping?

Some wire is used for vaping with wattage, some with temperature control, and one main type we’ll talk about can be used for both. None of the information should overwhelm you or burden you in technical data. It’s a high-level overview. The focus will be on single-strand wire, and only on wires that are commonly used for vaping.

Can You straighten vape wire?

Straightening vape wire is an important step in any coil build. It takes minimal effort to complete, and helps ensure your end product will perform. Today, we’ll walk you through the steps required to straighten that metal! In the tutorial above, various gauges of Kanthal wire are straightened.

How to wrap a wire with a screwdriver?

Hold the end of the wire nearest the screwdriver. Use your thumb to secure the wire firmly in place. You can now start wrapping the wire around the screwdriver. Do this until you have reached the target number of wraps. When you wrap the coil, keep the coils as close to one another as much as possible. Do not let the coils overlap.

What is the TCR of a vape wire?

Wires suitable for TC are chosen because of their Temperature Coefficient of Resistance (TCR). The TCR of the vaping wire is the increase in resistance of the wire as temperature increases. The mod knows the cold resistance of your coil, and the material you are using.

What is the safest wire for vaping?

Stainless steel is the most unique of the common vaping wires. It can pull double duty and be used for straight wattage vaping or temp control vaping. Stainless steel wire is an alloy composed primarily of chromium, nickel, and carbon.

How many wraps should my coil be?

How many coil wraps do I need? This depends completely on what type of coil you're building, your target resistance and even how much flavor you want from your coil. We'd usually suggest sticking to around 6 wraps as this will give you a good cross sectional surface area with decent flavor.

How do I fix my vape wire?

First, clear all debris out of the heating chamber. If the chamber looks clean, use a paperclip to adjust the coil's positioning in the chamber. For broken electrical wires, the only solution is soldering or replacing the device.

How can I make my vape coil last longer?

What wire can you use for vape?

There are five commonly used types of vape wires. These are: kanthal, nichrome, stainless steel, nickel, and titanium.

What vape wire gives the best flavor?

Stainless steel wire heats up faster than kanthal or nichrome and that makes it the go-to wire for vapers seeking a quick and hard draw. Many vapers also swear that stainless steel produces better flavor than kanthal. Stainless steel wire contains nickel so those with a nickel allergy should avoid using it.

What coil is best for flavor?

The best ones to go for flavour wise are clapton, titanium (if you prefer vaping with TC mode) or an Alien coil. The sweet spot for getting a balance of vapour and flavour is around 0.3ohms. Depending on your coil choice you'll want to up the wattage from anywhere between 50 and 100 watts.

What wattage should I vape at 0.5 ohm?

For example, a 0.5 ohm coil will vape best at 15 watts up to 50 watts. Another place you can look to find out the appropriate wattage range is on the coil itself.

What wattage should I vape 0.15 ohm?

For the 0.15 ohm GT4 coils, used on Vaporesso's NRG tank, for example, the recommended wattage is 45 and 65W. 45 to 65W is still a fairly broad range, so it will be up to you to find what works best within these limits.

Rebuilding Atomizers – Step One – The Wrap

I’m happy to report that I was given the green light the other day to continue on with this series on learning how to rebuild atomizers. The series will, hopefully, teach you not only how to rebuild any atomizer you choose to work with, but to also show you that it does take a lot of talent to do it, only the desire and commitment to do so.

Methodology

The way of I am going to teach is is to break it down into various exercises, to assign, not homework, but an exercise that when you complete it you will be able to easily apply that skill when the time comes. The first, primary, yet most important part of rebuilding an atomizer is learning to make good wraps.

Wrapping A Coil

In its basic terms, rebuilding an atomizer is the simple act of removing the burned out wick, which is material wrapped with a coil/wire, and putting another one in its place.

Preparation

When the time comes to really wrap some wire around a real wick you’ll have learned about preparing your wick, whether your wick is made up of stainless steel mesh rolled up into a tube shape, or some other wick material properly prepared, but I don’t even want you to have to worry about these things right now.

Two Ways To Wrap

Guide To Vaping – There are two methods I use to wrap a coil. One way is to take a wooden match that you would use to start a fire in your fireplace, about 6 inches long or so, and the smaller wooden match that you would see in a box of matches that you can carry around in your pocket. These are the sizes we want to start with.

Wrapping

Kanthal Resistance Wire is cheap. You can buy 32 feet of it in a small spool for $7.99 at MyVaporStore. 32 feet will last you a long time.

How to keep wire from kinking up?

While keeping tension of the wire, run your finger down the length of the metal (starting at the chuck) until you have reached the end secured by your other tool . This step ensures that your wire does not kink up after spinning, and that it stays straight throughout.

Why is it important to straighten vape wire?

Straightening vape wire is an important step in any coil build. It takes minimal effort to complete, and helps ensure your end product will perform. Today, we’ll walk you through the steps required to straighten that metal!

Do you have to straighten wire for coils?

While straightening wire is not a requirement for some coils, it is always suggested!

Can you twist wire in a drill?

Before you can start twisting the wire in the drill, you’ll need to hold the opposite end of the wire. Pliers work best for this, but you can also make twist the end of you metal around a builders rod.

Can Kanthal wire be straightened?

In the tutorial above, various gauges of Kanthal wire are straightened. This technique can be used with any type of wire you choose to build your coil with, including stainless steel, nichrome, and other specialty wires. Oh, and if you want to build your own coils full-time, invest in a good tool kit!

Single Coil

I really prefer 24-gauge wire for single coils. I also prefer to wrap coils with a 3mm inner diameter. They are easier to build that way, and give lots of space for wicking and a bit of extra surface area. For the best compatibility across devices, I tend to prefer a target resistance of .15ohms – .25ohms.

Dual Coils

I prefer 26-gauge wire for dual coils. It has a higher resistance per inch than 24-gauge, and it’s easier to hit the target resistance across the two coils. You are shooting for the same target resistances that you are with a single-coil: 0.15 – 0.25ohms, and again keep it under .4ohms at a maximum.

Calibrating your device

Before you start vaping on your new Ti coils, you need to calibrate your device. Let your coil cool back down to room temperature. Five to ten minutes should be plenty of time to let them cool. Screw-in your RDA and lock in the atomizer resistance (older DNA40 devices do not have an atomizer lock feature.

What wires are used for power mode?

Most vapers prefer power mode: it is just simpler. Kanthal, stainless steel, and nichrome are the three most popular power mode wires right now, and you might be wondering what would be the best one for you. Again, take note that if you have (or suspect you may have) a nickel allergy, then you should not vape on nichrome coils, ...

What is Kanthal wire?

Kanthal wire is a ferritic iron-chromium-aluminum alloy with good resistance to oxidation. It is commonly used for vaping in straight wattage mode. Kanthal is a great place to start if you are just getting into rebuilding, dripping, etc. It is easy to work with, yet stiff enough to hold its shape when formed into coils—which comes into play during the wicking process. It is extremely popular as a primary wire when building single-wire coils.

What gauge wire is used for Clapton coils?

Some of the most common gauges used for single-strand coil builds are 28, 26, and 24, and thinner wire used in the exterior of Clapton coils is usually between 40 and 32 gauge. There are others of course, and even odd number gauges.

What is ramp up time?

Ramp-up time is the time your coil takes to reach the temp needed for vaporizing e-juice. Ramp time is generally more noticeable with exotic multi-strand wire coils like Claptons, but, as wire size increases, ramp time can also become more apparent with simple single wire coils.

What is the difference between a 32 gauge coil and a 24 gauge coil?

When comparing coils with the same ID, number of wraps, and material used, a coil made with 32 gauge wire will be of much higher resistance than a 24 gauge coil. Another factor to take into account when it comes to wire resistance is the internal resistance of the coil material.

Why do you need a TC wire?

Wires suitable for TC are chosen because of their Temperature Coefficient of Resistance (TCR). The TCR of the vaping wire is the increase in resistance of the wire as temperature increases. The mod knows the cold resistance of your coil, and the material you are using.

What is wire gauge?

Wire gauge. The first basic characteristic of any wire is the actual diameter of the wire. It is commonly called the wire “gauge” and expressed as a numerical value. The actual diameter for each wire isn’t really important. What matters is that as the wire gauge number increases, the wire diameter gets smaller.
