How does an e-liquid vape work?
This is thin wire, wrapped into a coil. When you press your button, it provides power to the coil. This then converts that energy to heat (If you could see your coils, they sometimes glow red when you are pressing your button), and vapourises e-liquid from the saturated wicking material.
What is a high resistance coil?
High resistance coil An atomizer head with a resistance above 1.0 ohm. Generally used at a lower power and are more suited for “regular” vapour production. Smaller clouds of vapour
What are vape coils and atomizer heads?
But as we know, the world of vape lingo is vast and when you say coils, we know what you mean. If your vape mod is the body, atomizer heads are the heart, a fundamental part of your vaping experience. Housed within the vape tank, an atomizer head contains a coil of thin wire and wicking material.
What is a high and low resistance atomizer?
High and low resistance. An atomizer head with a resistance above 1.0 ohm. Generally used at a lower power and are more suited for “regular” vapour production. An atomizer head with a resistance less than 1.0 ohm. Commonly referred to as “sub-ohm”.

How do you reduce coil resistance?
To lower the resistance of your coil, you can use a thicker wire. If you apply the same power to two wires of the same length but different thickness, the thicker wire will heat up more slowly. To reach a similar temperature in the same time with a lower resistance coil (thicker wire), you need to provide more power.

Can you change the resistance on a vape?
If you change the coil to a higher resistance of 2.8ohms you will notice a considerable decrease in flavour, vapour production and heat. That's because the wattage is lower (around 4.4 watts). You will need to increase the voltage to increase the wattage and get a better vape.
How do I fix high atomizer resistance?
RecapClean all contacts on battery/mod, tank or pod.Remove and reinstall the coil (after cleaning)Try a new coil.Check the 510 pin and see if you can adjust it (mods/tanks)Try another tank on your mod.Try another mod with your tank.Adjust base of coil carefully if you can (mainly sub-Ohm coils)
How do you calculate the resistance of a coil?
∴ Resistance of wire R=ρAL=πd/4ρ(2πnlR)=d8nlRρ
How many watts do I need for a .23 ohm coil?
Wattage range 20-45W.
Is a lower resistance coil better?
A lower resistance will provide warmer vapour, a slightly drier hit, and bigger clouds. The downside is that you're going to use your e-liquid more quickly and typically you need to vape at a higher wattage meaning your 18650 li-ion battery will drain faster.
Why is my coil burnt after 2 days?
That burnt taste can occur if there's not enough e-liquid on the wick inside your atomizer coil. The wick is the part of your device that soaks up the e-liquid, which is then turned into vapour when the coil heats up.
What is the best coil resistance for vaping?
The standard or regular level of ohm when it comes to vaping and your clearomizer is between 2.4 and 2.8. This is by far the most common ohm range chosen by those looking for replacement coils, with the most commonly chosen being 2.5. This standard level tends to offer the most consistent level for your vape.
What is dry burning a coil?
What is “Dry Burning” a Coil? “Dry burning” is similar to pulsing a coil, only this time after the wire has been put to use. Vapourising e-liquid will, after a time, cause the coil and wicking material to “gunk up” with matter that can affect the taste and performance given from your atomiser.
How do you fix a shorted coil?
Pull the base of the coil out slight then reassemble the tank and make sure the coil is on tight. If the coil is on tightly and still reading atomizer short then you might have a bad coil. Sometimes there could be one or two bad/defective coils so try using a new coil from the pack to see if that is the issue.
Why does my atomizer keeps shorting?
Coils may have a short Also, some people may misjudge the size of their builds, causing their coil to touch the chamber and short out—and that will cause an “atomizer short” or an “atomizer low” error. Remedy: For factory coils, first make sure your coil is properly seated. If it still doesn't work, try another coil.
Why is it better to lower your vape temp?
By lowering your vape temp, you can increase the life of your coil by a few weeks simply because less electricity is running through it with each puff.
What is chain vaping?
Chain-vaping is when you take one big cloud-producing puff right after another. This is great for filling a room, hotboxing a car, or pretending to be a human fog machine. But it is not great for your vape. Not only does chain-vaping dry out your wick (no time to re-soak between puffs) but it also burns out your coil.
What is a vape pen?
Every vape pen is a highly advanced and astoundingly simple electronic device. You could say vaping is a modern marvel of technology. One of the luxuries of being a high-tech society. Each little e-cig, vape pen, or mod box rig has a few essential parts that make vaping possible. There's the battery first. The battery connects to the coil which causes it to heat up when the button is pressed. When the button is pressed, the coil heats the tank of e-liquid which, in turn, heats up the wick soaked in e-liquid which is what creates the vapor.
Why do you hold the button down when the battery goes out?
The hotter coils get , the more likely they are to burn out. And the longer the battery fires, the hotter the coils get. Therefore, holding the button down until it goes out on its own is a fantastic way to get a short lifespan from your coils. If you really want to take some super-long puffs, that's great.
Why does my wire stop getting hot?
The wire deteriorates as it is heated up over and over again. It starts offering more resistance for less result, which is why coils often stop getting hot before they truly die. Or too much electricity will burst through the coil all at once, causing it to short out or mega-heat and burn itself out instantly.
Does chain vaping dry out coils?
Not only does chain-vaping dry out your wick (no time to re-soak between puffs) but it also burns out your coil. Pressing the button rapidly after stopping heats the coil over and over again and can even override the usual safety precautions preventing coils from firing for too long.
Do you press the button on a vape pen?
It's true , buttons are fun. But pressing the button on your vape pen does more than just click. It fires the battery which heats up the coil which heats up the e-liquid and wick. Even if you don't fire long enough to create any vapor, you're still juicing your coil over and over again with each click.
How to keep a coil healthy?
Keeping the wick saturated with your favorite e-juice is one of the best ways to keep your coil healthy. When you notice that your tank is down to about a quarter full, it's time to refill. Draining the tank to the bottom puts a strain on the coil as it tries to heat up without enough liquid.
Is it better to keep your vape at a lower temperature?
More often than not, it's better to keep your vaping device set at a lower temperature. This is important when you're starting with a fresh new coil. You want to give the coil time to adjust, and going full blast on high temperatures risks burning the coil.
Do coils last forever?
Even with all of these tips and tricks to help you, coils don't last forever. You'll help extend the life of your coil by a big margin, but it'll still need a replacement at some point.
What is coil in vape?
The coil is a component inside the atomizer. But as we know, the world of vape lingo is vast and when you say coils, we know what you mean. If your vape mod is the body, atomizer heads are the heart, a fundamental part of your vaping experience.
What is the resistance of an atomizer?
Well atomizer heads have an electrical resistance value measured in ohms (Ω). Depending on the amount of electrical resistance will depend on what ‘ohm’ your atomizer head is. Atomizer heads generally fall into two categories. High and low resistance.
What are atomizer coils made of?
Most atomizer coils are made from Nichrome or Kanthal. But there are different wire types that some vapers use. Nickel, Titanium and Stainless Steel are also available, but less popular. These tend to be used for temperature control vaping and aren’t suited to all e-cigs. But that is for another time.
How does an atomizer head work?
An atomizer head converts energy from the e-cig battery and heats the coil inside, this then vaporises e-liquid that is soaked into the wicking material, which is then inhaled by you.
What happens when you press a button?
When you press your button, it provides power to the coil. This then converts that energy to heat (If you could see your coils, they sometimes glow red when you are pressing your button), and vapourises e-liquid from the saturated wicking material.
Do you need to worry about Ohm's law?
If you vape a regulated e-cig, for example an arc 5 or Optimus, you do not need to worry about Ohm’s law as the device sorts this for you. If you use an unregulated e-cig, such as a mechanical mod then you need to be aware of Ohm’s law and battery safety.
Who came up with the formula for measuring electrical resistance?
Back in the 1800’s a German physicist ‘Georg Simon Ohm’ published his works regarding the physics of electricity. After lots of sciency things, he came up with a formula to calculate the measurement of electrical resistance.
How do vape coils work?
Coils, which are sometimes referred to as atomisers, are the component of your vaping device that creates vapour.
What are the different types of coil?
MTL or “mouth-to-lung” coils are designed to replicate the experience of smoking a traditional cigarette. This means a tight draw and low power output. Generally, MTL coils are designed to be used with higher nicotine strength e-liquids, to further simulate the “throat hit” of a cigarette.

Doubling the number of coils halves the resistance. Cutting the tails shouldn’t change anything though unless they’re ragged and touching somewhere in which case you have a short you need to fix

I don't mean to be a jackass but come on... You're using a mech, and asking about coil resistance difference between one and two coils? Come on... You're playing a dangerous game.

BTW the amp limit for that battery is 25A. 0.13 ohms draws 32A. You are greatly exceeding the battery safety limit by 28%.

First off, I didn't ask a question about resistance dropping due to dual coils. If I'm trying to run a build around .14-.16, purchasing .32 coils should get me there. I usually run my builds at .16-.17 with no issue. I understand how resistance halves.

By setting them like normal, and securing them in place. The coils were just super tall. Too tall to use. Since my first set was .06 I figured I'd check the resistance like that knowing they were too tall.
asmcriminal Senior Member ECF Veteran
it sounds like, you're putting them in the deck and measuring the resistance which comes out to about 0.30 ohms. They are too tall, so you cut them. Then whath happens? They go farther in to the deck and you clamp them again.

If you are measuring before cutting the legs, removing the coil to cut the legs and then measuring again after cutting the legs, yes...the second measurement will be lower. The overall length of the wire from end to end has decreased.
